Even if they don't actually show him doing the destruction, my only point was, some people make it out like nothing is destroyed by Godzilla just being Godzilla, see it happen or not, we have aftermath showing he's trouble too.

People ***** because Superman destroys too much and they ***** because Godzilla doesn't destroy enough.

People ***** because people like to *****.

Anyway, not sure if this was posted in here yet. From the Maquette thread:

Oh I thought you were piggybacking off of my point that's why. Because the trailers did leave us to believe that all those scenes of destruction (with Cranston talking about the secret) were caused by Godzilla. But it wasn't. That's fine. But I'm just saying I think a lot of the audience would have appreciated the pace of the film more had they made Godzilla's arrival in Hawaii more of a visual spectacle and less of teasing shots here and there. That's my theory. It's also a compliment. They left us wanting more. But, I think they could have wet our whistles a bit more earlier so that the ending scene where they do show him in all his glory doesn't feel so short. It did. Looking back at it, I have about four or five great memorable images of Godzilla in this film. I just want more. lol

But, the ATJ and the military storyline didn't do much to help. You were praying for monsters to show up.

There is more they could have included and taken Godzilla himself in a different direction. I will agree, the first trailer with the halo jump did make it seem like Godzilla was laying waste to San Francisco, I know they're really excited about the Halo Jump scene and they didn't want to show the mutos yet, but that was a huge misdirection and I'd say a bad marketing choice but the movie seems to be doing fine in spite of it.

Just got back.

Wife not a fan.

She's not a huge fan of the Toho movies to begin with because of its B quality but said its pathetic that a Toho Godzilla movie without hollywood quality effects has more Godzilla and longer more fun battles.

She said the movie should've been called "military guys walking" instead of Godzilla.

She said she felt no connection to Ford's wife or kid.

She said that Cranston was the best part of the movie and once he was gone it was boring watching military guys talk and talk and then talk some more.

She said the Godzilla action was just not enough, and that he was a weakling ontop of that.

She thought he was the destroyer of worlds, but he actually wasn't.

She's usually very sentimentel but said the family reunion at the end felt very flat.

Ouch.

Ummmm, it still held up for me. :lol

I think Godzilla fans will see past the films flaws because regardless of whatever the average movie feels about the film, the Godzilla scenes are great in the film and the money shots are there in all their glory. So naturally for Godzilla fans, to see such an iconic monster back on the big screen was always going to be special.

Heisenberg's short review hit the nail on the head with how I felt about the film. Again, I did like parts of the film and I'm sure on a second viewing it may sit better with me but I just didn't love it as I really thought I would and wanted too. There was just too many things that let is down in key areas. Killing off the film's best character half way through really didn't help it either, that's one of the film's biggest crimes right there.

any time someone complains about this movie or has a problem (online not here) the usual answer is one of these

1.This is not Bayformers, This is like JAWS
2. this is a smart movie, not a typical blockbuster
3. the original only had godzilla for 20 something minutes, "you are so ignorant"

the one I see used the most is the third one. But Like I was saying, the casual movie goer that is not really a godzilla fan would be expecting a monster movie just from the trailers alone.
to say that person is stupid or ignorant about the original Godzilla is kind of weird seeing how this was marketed. The trailers do not make it seem like you will see Godzilla at the end mostly.

Did my response fit in to any of your categories? :lol

Halfway? lol like a third of the way.

But the film still seems to be doing well by the critics and casual fans. So, I think it'll be a big hit. Could have been a far better movie experience though.

I've got IMAX tickets booked for tomorrow at 10am, every other showing was practically sold out. I'm disappointed to see there is no 2D option as usual at my Odeon.

I'm expecting this film to suck based on the majority of reviews I've read so I'll post my thoughts afterwards.

Definite ouch. Wow. lol

But Godzilla was no weakling. He was stomping both monsters one-on-one. A majority of the fight he is literally being tag-teamed. He showed incredible strength and warrior-like nobility. If anything, he's certainly one of the strongest Godzilla's out there. He surely would not deal with a Mothra larva webbing him up or Ghidorah shooting electric **** at his junk.

OK, a third of the way. :lol I feel Cranston was only hired to capitalise on the Breaking Bad hype and get his name on the posters to get people in the cinema seats. I think if his character had made it through to the end the emotional impact would have played out miles better than it did. Once he died it went very flat and no-one cared how many of the army guys didn't make it after that.

Agreed. They made him seem like the main character. Very disappointed with that.
