Regarding comments about Godzilla being weak, despite being King of the Monsters, he's often had his ass handed to him and had to rise above the beating to come back and take out his opponent. Some of the best Godzilla battles have been that way.

Just got back.

Wife not a fan.

She's not a huge fan of the Toho movies to begin with because of its B quality but said its pathetic that a Toho Godzilla movie without hollywood quality effects has more Godzilla and longer more fun battles.

She said the movie should've been called "military guys walking" instead of Godzilla.

She said she felt no connection to Ford's wife or kid.

She said that Cranston was the best part of the movie and once he was gone it was boring watching military guys talk and talk and then talk some more.

She said the Godzilla action was just not enough, and that he was a weakling ontop of that.

She thought he was the destroyer of worlds, but he actually wasn't.

She's usually very sentimentel but said the family reunion at the end felt very flat.

Ouch.

Ummmm, it still held up for me. :lol

so take her to transformers to make up for this :lol

Why on earth would you marry this person.

My girl loved it. But we both wanted Godzilla to get pissed and destroy some battleships. They shot at him enough and ge just walked away. Speaking of, when he confronted the mutos at the end did he burrow underground? He seemed like he was napping there lol

:goodpost:

Considering the hostility that was shown towards Godzilla, like you say, the attacks launched on him by us humans, he never really retaliated.

So was this better or worse than Man of Steel (in terms of delivering the goods, giving us what we want to see, seeing Godzilla do Godzilla things).

im comparing two films because they are two characters where the creative palette is exetensive, pretty much limitless.

Indeed, I really wanted to see him turn round and think '**** this!' and take out everything and everyone around him.

it's a message ;)
if you have a goal on mind, don't let minor things distract you from it :monkey1

Isnt that normal. He is a TITAN like monster looking to kill its natural rival. Hes a beast in his core. Humans are more than just a normal annoyance for him. Like a bunch of flies. I mean he doesnt give a crap that there are aircraft carriers following him. He just moves to kill the MUTOs

I actually liked that he didn't really pay any attention to the humans when they attacked him. Just showed how irrelevant humans are to both him and the MUTOs. He had a goal and they weren't a big enough threat for him to bother with. Even the MUTOs didn't pay much attention to the people outside of a handful of specific instances.

i thoroughly enjoy watching Godzilla melt plastic tanks

And if a fly comes buzzing round your head do you go to swat it? If a wasp or bee is circling you, do you swat it away?

All three are a complete annoyance/threat, no matter how inferior they are, I still swat them away.

By the way, saw a 1 minute clip of Godzilla at the bridge, like when they're shooting at him and he crashes through. How can people get caught up in how much time he spends on screen, that one clip alone was amazing, I'm already pumped about what Edwards is giving and it's like 10% of the big picture.

The only person I know who flat-out hated it (though he will give it a second viewing now that he knows what to expect) also loved Final Wars... so... reasonable to assume he was expecting complete Godzilla saturation. I cannot thank the gods enough that this didn't happen. :D

But you're not a million year-old god/monster either. And for what it's worth, humans are smaller compared to the Big G than flies are to us. Edwards didn't pull a Gino on this one and I'm grateful. :rock

Honestly, the the way they sprinkle Godzilla throughout is so good. Yes you WANT to see him more, but it's a good want. It's a fine dining experience where they pace out the appetizers and main course so you don't get full and waste the experience of the delicious final meal. It's a very very good build. The initial reveal of Godzilla left me so happy and grinning that it literally tided me over throughout the rest of the film :lol

And the best part is: even after the movie's over, we still don't feel like we know that much about Godzilla. There's still an air of mystery to this mythical creature, despite having just seen him Mortal Kombat down a Muto's throat. We know just as much about this thing as the humans do and that's because we see just about as much too.

After giving it a night, my only nitpicks are: yes, the Brody family aren't the most fascinating characters, but they are handled realistically. I can't watch them and not empathize. They did everything the way I would do it. The writers didn't go the way of Damon Lindelof and make them self-contradicting idiots. :lol My other nitpick is not necessarily the lack of an airport fight scene, but that the transition from that to daylight was too sudden. Maybe a few shots of people flying into the distance or waiting it out in the buildings while the monsters duke it out in the background. Not necessarily focusing on the monsters and giving us a real fight scene, but just something to serve as a buffer between nighttime chaos and sudden daylight peace.

Other than that, favorite Goji movie. Easily. It felt like a reimagined version of the 1954 original, but with a few other elements that fans have come to expect from the series since (like the semi-heroic side).

I run away from them. If it's a bumblebee, I'll hit it with a rake, but it usually crawls out from under the rake and I go back to running away.

So is this shot replaced by the quick glimpse of Godzilla and muto fighting?
