I agree with you... trailers really had me ready for a different kind of film.

And LOL about the Superman/Godzilla comparison.. I agree... I think it's because Superman killed more people then Godzilla and the Mutos ;)

The trailers did their job hook, line and sinker to get folks to see this...grats to those guys who made it...besides I believe the trailer should only tease and not give the film away

The problem is a lot of people feel like the trailers were a bit of bait and switch. While it's understandable that the studio wanted to conceal the existence of other monsters in the movie and their design, they presented a halo jump sequence in the very first trailer which basically showed Godzilla walking through San Francisco with it burning around him leading everyone to think at some point, there would be a sequence of him destroying things without being on a mission to get to the mutos or fighting with them, just destroying as punishment for man's crimes. Gareth also stated repeatedly in interviews that Godzilla's man's punishment for our crimes against nature, when in the end, Godzilla was really nature's instrument for restoring balance to the world because of man, but if anything was nature's punishment it's the mutos.

It's great for the studio that their marketing team get people to go and see the film and make a lot of money. But when the dust settles and the studio executives are counting their profits what a large majority of us are left with a) a very disappointing 'disaster' movie and b) a disappointing Godzilla movie (IMO).

The Halo scene felt out of place in the actual movie and fits great in the trailer.

But it certainly was a gorgeous scene, I loved the sunlight hitting ATJ eyes.

He looked so dreamy. :lol

That's where I feel differently.

I still enjoyed it even with the bait and switch.

I feel like that first comic con treatment trailer was the most misleading. Then again it was just to give an idea of tone. Whatever happened to "I am become death"?! :monkey2

Oh right…

Years ago you went to see many a film based on 2 things, the Trailer seen at the theater(no internet blsht) and or the cool looking movie poster(posters meant alot in the old days) I saw a lot of sh t movies because of misleading...this Godzilla issue aint nothin!

Its coming, but in the mean time i'm enjoying this one for what it is instead of what it was supposed to be.

There are still incredible Godzilla scenes even if he was a Superhero.

In the art of Destruction, they talk about the teaser. Gareth created it for a presentation he and Legendary were giving WB to get them on board, it wasn't made for people to ever see, but with the success of the presentation and the quality of the clip, it was decided to present it at Comic Con during the Legendary panel.

I think the idea was to present that any visual of destruction you saw would feel like news footage of a real event, and that Godzilla himself would be presented very seriously, but the end result set up fans to think Godzilla would be a bringer of death. In the end, if not for an internet leak, that video never really would have played a part in the marketing campaign, but it got leaked and a lot of folks saw it and ran with it.

The official marketing did suggest Godzilla as the bringer of destruction in the first 2 trailers, it wasn't until TV spots and international trailers that things turned and didn't really present Godzilla himself as the destroyer, it didn't depict him as the savior either. They showed a lot of roaring shots and separate destruction shots but anytime you saw a monster smashing something it was the mutos.

I came up with a plan, even though I've been spoiled to things, I'm gonna write up what I expected going into watching the movie, and then review it after based on what I saw and analyze how things stacked up to expectation. I'll even ignore that I know he's a hero and touch on how I expected him to destroy things too.

MF just go see the movie.
Even if your wife went into labor during opening credits you'd have enough time to see the entire movie before its anywhere near time to take action :lol

I did enjoy how the Muto looked in that initial illustration of his spider like legs, you know which one i'm referring to?

You talking about fan art based on showing the airport seen at last year's comic con? Or something from Art of Destruction?
