Re: Legendary Pictures' GODZILLA - May 16, 2014

Somehow the trailer slipped under my radar until today, it looks good. I will say, Godzilla seems almost too big but maybe it's just the angles and way they're showing him. It just seems like it shouldn't even be possible for him to hide in the city in those shots where they're skydiving in. So there are other monsters in this as well or just Godzilla?

Most of what we have seen of Godzilla has been shrouded in smoke and rubble at the moment, so it's hard to really get an idea of how big he is. But I agree that he appears huge at the moment.

That's a good thing!

Not sure if it's been confirmed that there are other monsters in this. I think a teaser poster from last year had a different creature on it? Also, a few members have mentioned that the creature that tears through the tram/train/cable car in the trailer is another monster.

I don't see how they are any different to the feet on Godzilla from 1954?

Lol, well like I said earlier, I'm not a Godzilla fan nor an expert on the anatomy. But I googled for pictures of the feet from the original movie and the feet on the new sculpt didn't look drastically different to me.

Also, this is from the synopsis on the wikipedia page, and is a quote from legendary Pictures apparently;

"An epic rebirth to Toho’s iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence" — Legendary Pictures.

Also, talking about posters, they can all be seen in post 1 of the thread.

What a cool picture! Must've been fun just kicking and destroying everything.

Still, not seeing much of a difference in the new feet compared to the old feet there. Sure the toes are separated more on '54's feet, and they are slightly longer, but it seems minimal.

Hmm, going from that dsc I hope we don't create the other monsters to fight Godzilla because that's too dangerously close to Pacific Rim.

I don't kno, if anything, it makes it sound as if Godzilla is fighting the monsters that mean us harm. As if Godzilla is protecting us?

Apparently Del Toro wants to do a Godzilla - Pacific Rim crossover.

Re: Legendary Pictures' GODZILLA - May 16, 2014

Yup....the ****ing elephant feet. At least the nails are longer than the early statues showed, so the feet look a tad bit more lethal looking and seem to have some sort of balance. But with a sole that little and nails that long it's got to be a ***** to walk around for Godzilla.

Got to see the sculpt painted first. It looks like cheap plastic at the moment. I'm still not crazy about the design, but it does look better in motion. Not sure if I'll really want too many figures of that guy in these static poses. A MonsterArt figure might be the one that can truly make him look menacing. Anyway, pretty funny that all those prototypes shown at the Godzilla event at SDCC kept saying that they weren't the final design and all we've seen since are designs that look 99% exactly the same.

Reminds me of when Zilla photos got leaked and Tri-Star said they weren't real. Yeah, okay. Had we all known it at the time, they actually were real, but looked better than the final product actually would smh....

For the first film I simply hope not. That formula is so vanilla now.

For the launch of a new series, I hope they keep Godzilla terrifying throughout the movie. When he was the hero in the Toho films it felt different because after a while you knew it was for a children's audience. But with this film feeding off the roots of the 1954 film, and considering Edwards keeps saying he "gets it" and they are "doing it right this time", you have to be able to separate the two.

If you are honoring the classic, dark, gritty, atmospheric original film, than the tone of this one should be of an unstoppable horror--nature's wrath against mankind in the form of Godzilla. To have him suddenly defend mankind and be their saviour...save it for the sequels. If Godzilla kills other monster(s) in it fine, but he better go and smash cities or kill people afterwards.

I don't know of they're made to combat Godzilla, but even if they are, they can't be controlled and that's a message in this film, the monster attacks are nature's wrath against man for trying to control nature. The airport scene from the trailer is an attack by other monsters according to folks at SDCC 2013.

Re: Legendary Pictures' GODZILLA - May 16, 2014

The trailer was really not bad. But if they really go for that multiple monster approach, I don't know...

Same as when Fox studios said that the crappy leaked Wolverine Origins was nowhere near the completed cut of the movie and it turned out it was 100% the final cut. :rotfl

Godzilla wouldn't be Godzilla without his trademark thunder thighs.

Nor would my wife. :lecture
