Legolas Legendary Scale Bust

Well, that eye sure is distracting, but with even a tiny adjustment, I think the bust would actually look pretty good. Here is a Photoshop-corrected version. The only adjsutment I made was to the eye, and I think it makes a significant difference:

Geez, after seeing it that way . . .it makes me appreciate the SS/W version waaay better. I didn't want to say anything yet, because people were already trashing the Weta bust. And I was certainly hoping for the best. But . . .it is what it is.

All joking aside this is a stunningly sculpted bust but again the likeness is a little off IMO.


I don't it looks too bad at this angle not a great pic but once again I think its how you display these pieces because at the end of the day SS isn't always going to get every statue or bust right esp the humans!! The body of this bust is VERY well done though and I will be buying this one, mainly because its a very good interpretation of Legolas, not Orlando ok but still good for Legolas, IMO.

Too disturbingly spot-on.

I personally don't think Legolas turned out all that bad--- some aspects of it look really good. Still, this is getting bashed even more than the infamous Witchking bust it seems.

I don't own any LSB or PFs, but are the iris and pupil sculpted, or just painted on details? If its painted I wouldn't be too worried about final product, but if its a sculpted issue that might be more problematic.

I dunno... this doesn't look to hot either. At least with the LSB you can tell its a dude.

Stop trying with the Weta stuff....you know too well that Weta cant touch Sideshow in the sculpt department and that your Weta collection is out of date...All this cause you dont want to upgrade.

I wasn't planning to get this one anyway, but I really thought the unveiling would be much more impressive. Robodad's repositioned eye does make a vast improvement, but there's still something about his furrowed brow that looks off to me for some reason. Did "the Elf" ever really frown like that? Seems to me his eyes just sort of blazed with more intensity when he got it on with the blades, but I don't recall him doing any brow-furrowing sort of facial expressions in the movies.

Maybe it's just me, but if they'd left his forehead smooth and just painted his eyes a hell of a lot better, he'd look a lot more like OB around the eyes. The rest of the sculpture looks great to me, nice detailing on his costume and fighting knives, too. It's really a shame they didn't take a little more time with his eyes!

Absolutely true on both counts. That's the bottom line, these guys are upset they paid of something that isn't very good, and they're too cheap to upgrade.

And for the people calling for the painters blood... can you really do better? Sure it does look a bit off in the eyes, but the rest of the paint pretty damn nice looking. Most likely the final piece (not that I'm ordering) will look better. I think the off to the side eyes don't always photograph well anyway.

Ok, I'm not a good painter by far, but please... this is supposed to be a picture that entices people to buy a bust of $ 200! It's like selling a brand new Jaguar and saying: "Ok sure, the brakes don't work, but look at how good it looks!"

We all know Microsoft can pull that **** on its costumers (selling an operating system with big security leaks), but let's hope Sideshow doesn't go that way as well

Wow, yikes. Not what I was expecting from the teaser photos. Now the detail on the costume is amazing. Looking at what Sideshow did with this bust in terms of detail, imagine what they can do with the PF.

And another price hike. This piece, IMO, should have been no more than $180. Go ahead Sideshow, keep raising your prices. The more you do, the more selective I get.

WOW...I did some Paint Shop Pro Studio modifications to the EYES. I USED the super high-res PRESS shots from Sideshow and moved Legolas' LEFT eye outward about 1/16" to 1/8". It really makes a WORLD of difference. Below are small images with a link just below to the HIGH-RES images...but you can see the noticable difference in the overall appearance by simply moving the eye a little bit...it actually makes the LSB look very nice.

Wow this bust looks bad. The WETA bust isn't any better but it is at a smaller scale. There are a few WETA Scuplts that missed, but their LOTR line blows SS's away. And hopefully people will be adding to their WETA collection when the Hobbit comes out.
