If someone makes a thread about a film, and I see it and don't like it, I'll say I don't like it and that's about it. Trouble is, some people, if they don't like it, have to continuously go into that thread and talk about how they hated it and how anyone who liked it is an idiot or argue about it.

I'd name names but....... :lol

Ooooo. Name names, Ween! :lol

The opening salvo of personal attacks are generally from those defending a film. From there a 'hater' may strike back though.

Some haters attack the film.

She'd be here all day. :lol

Nah, but there would be a few.

I don't see that. I don't understand that if you hate a film, why you keep coming back in the same thread then and keep telling people who like it why you think it's crap. And they'll do it, over and over and over. Come in weeks later just to tell people who loved it that it's still crap. One example is The Hobbit thread.

I get just as irritated with people who are constantly gushing over a new film as well. I used to enjoy reading the movie threads - often times people would post things that would make me think differently about parts of the movie - or I'll realize I missed something...I do enjoy the discussion aspect of a thread - pros and cons....but a lot of people just like to stand on pedestals and preach the same thing over and over and over again.

Just throwing this out there but I think 98% of the time its defenders of a given film that begin the insults. If you go back far enough in a thread this would probably prove to be the case. Whats in it for someone who doesn't like a film to begin their participation in a thread by attacking, not the film, but an individual who likes the film. I just don't think it happens that way. The insults start when someone, for some reason, takes it personally that X person doesn't like a film that they've taken to heart and rather than (or in addition to) dealing with the criticisms against the film they lash out at the person doing the criticising. Thats where things go off topic into flame wars.

I'd apply the same thing to action figure discussion.

I haven't been to the movie section in a few years. I just don't find myself "hardcore" enough to be arguing about them.

<---- casual movie-goer :lol

It's not enough for others to just like it, it has to be viewed as perfect and the best ever :dunno

Agreed.

A hater doesn't always start off as a hater, they'll say i didn't like this part of the movie or was dissapointed in that and overall it was okay ect...

Then a 'liker' will call them out as being wrong and try to explain to them in which ways they are wrong and how the film is magnificent.

Then the orignal poster will reply and it'll go on and on from there.

All movies are subjective to the viewers likes and dislikes. It's just a majority will form and those on the minority side will become the enemy to be smited down :lol

Yep, SS Vader Deluxe thread... a few people make some pretty tame negative remarks, and out come the apologists with the same old tired "if you don't like it don't buy it" line. Second in lameness to "if you think you can make a better (insert mass-produced high-end figure name) then go for it". The defenders of a movie or figure are often the most ardent trolls of all. The Prometheus thread was the last movie thread I bothered with, what a train wreck of blinkered fanboyism that was.

I do have plenty of experience in figure threads, and I can say with certainty that the genuine disappointments are one thing. The ****heels are another, and if they don't like it, they can GTFO. Those are trolls, and their criticisms are little more than backhanded spite.

Yeah, see I've read some of the fan posts as attempts to silence any and all criticism of their favourite dolly, including the genuine disappointments. Troll posts have never really bothered me much, somehow I just gloss over them. I only have one person on my ignore list, and that's nothing to do with the figure threads.

It has nothing to do with favorite dollies, and if people who aren't trolling feel intimidated, they should grow a pair. However, I hadn't noticed anyone holding their tongue.

The only reason you hear any kind of backlash against negativity is because some people have had enough of the histrionics, nit*****ing, etc. Actually, they had enough five years ago. Ask any of the Star Wars fans in Flosi's Cantina why they post there but rarely anywhere else.
