To recast him you essentially have to reboot the franchise which FOX won't do for another ten years. Cable will basically be filling the Wolverine void in X-FORCE (2019) & in its subsequent sequels.

March 2020 - Deadpool 3
Summer 2020 - Untitled 2000s X-Men Team Film


Plus adaptations of Starjammers, Alpha Flight & Excalibur.

Especially a franchise with horrible continuity like FoX-Men.

We lost a ton of money, lets tell the fans we're giving them a small and personal "character driven" movie where all the superheroes that require expensive cgi are all dead.
