DOFP already ended with Logan getting the warm and fuzzy epilogue though. I would think that Logan would prefer to be "in the moment" when he finally checked out, for better or worse.

This.

He waited 200 years to finally learn what it feels like to die.

Killing Xavier was shocking and a good twist, but imagine an alternate scenario in which Xavier doesn't die in the farmhouse, and instead at the end of the film, he uses his powers one more time to make a dying Logan see a happy moment...maybe all of them on the boat escaping, finally free as he watches the sunset and that's the last thing Logan sees.

After Logan throws the ring into the volcano, you mean?

You guys don't know nothin' about :fireworks subtlety. :fireworks

There was a part of me during opening night that was worried they might do this after the credits...

Really glad it ended with his grave and that's it.

They're saving that for the opening scene of DP2.

Lol I know you know DP2 takes place over a decade before Logan. Over a decade before Charles killed the X-Men. At a time where Wolverine and the other superhero mutants were icons in the eyes of the public.

Which makes DP2 and any other film in this time line pointless. We know how it all ends for them.

I admit that I felt that Xavier's death was a bit too subtle. I would have liked to have seen something more in line with the main bad guy's death at the end of True Lies which would have been much more fitting and bittersweet IMO.

:lol I had to think about that for a second

Heck if DP2 were a sequel to the events of Logan you wouldn't put it past them to just have Logan back without explanation given past form.

Waypool takes place in "Bubble-Land". It neighbors the place the Netflix shows reside. It's in the same FoxU, just... different. Same... but not same.

I think its the opposite. Knowing how Logan and Xavier check out makes me infinitely more interested in what their time together was like when they were in their prime.

Was Godfather Part II pointless because we know how Vito dies? Nope.

Every minute DeNiro is onscreen is gold.

True, but sort of different when an old man dies and we get flashbacks in the next film as opposed to knowing pretty much all mutants are dead or nearly extinct so them saving the day for mutants again is pointless. DOFP fixed things like Scott and Gene and we see a happy school functioning, but the Logan puts us right back to mutants being pretty much extinct again.

Logan is a fantastic standalone story, it was definitely worth making and us seeing it. However, as I think Khev brought up before, I do have trouble with the idea that despite everything they went through in the previous films, it all still went so badly.

They went to such lengths to correct a horrible future in DOFP only for a different horrible future to occur anyway. I'm guessing Kitty Pryde was dead and no one else could do what she did in DOFP? Otherwise it seems like it might have been a good idea to travel back to the past again and somehow prevent Xavier from accidentally killing everyone.

You're saying the DOFP ending was T2's ending and Logan's ending is T3? Whoa!

They're not extinct, just not being born anymore.

Cable, X-Force, X-Factor, Alpha Flight...they're alive and out there, just not giving birth to mutants.

Laura's group will probably be the first faction to spawn new mutants.

I think people wanted something like this

Or something as grandiose.

But again, Mangold went the minimalist route (like No Country for Old Men) and gave Wolverine a quiet death. Nothing big or memorable. Just a guy bleeding out while holding his daughter's hand. Reminded a bit of DeNiro's death in Heat.

So like this, but with the roles reversed?

I prefer the ending we got.

Lawrence of Arabia's the worst. Guy dies up front (not sure if it's Lawrence or Arabia but eh) and I'm like whooooooo caaaaaaares. :slap

Yeah, all of the philosophical debates, overcoming conflict after conflict, traveling through time, etc.. . .for nothing :lol

More than that, the timeline in the X-films is so screwy that really--who cares? Is it any more of a stretch to say that the previous films are somehow connected (multiple, different Emma Frosts, Storms, Mystiques, Moiras, Deadpools, Trasks, and Angels running around, Xavier and Mags age about 3 years over the course of decades, etc.) than to say that Logan dies in this movie, and then magically rises from the grave 10 years before he supposedly died?

:rotfl

That Citizen Kane is such a POS. Telling us the guy is dead at the beginning. Who the **** wants to watch that **** at that point? WE ALL KNOW WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN!!!
