A second viewing of Apocalypse did not change my initial opinion. It's right down there with X-Men Origins. Perhaps even below it

For large parts of it I felt a strange sense of embarrassment at what I was seeing. For some reason so much of what worked in the other movies was, in this film, tired at best (the Xavier/Magneto stuff) or downright cringeworthy (pretty much any scene Jennifer Lawrence was in, the X-kid scenes and sadly the Weapon X bit aswell)

It's slow as ****, really terrible pacing, some very dodgy effects and of course the problem of Magneto becoming a mass murderer and no one seeming to have a huge problem with it because he changed his mind and became of some assistance in the final battle.

The angry Magneto angle has been drilled into the ground... they've gone to that well a half dozen times already... they gotta move on.

The only part of the Weapon X scene I liked was the end of it where they confront him and then takes off. Him with his face in the camera was douche chill inducing :lol

Quicksilver scene was so contrived and thrown in because the DOFP one was such a hit.

Final battle was only interesting when it came down to Apocalpyse VS. Everyone.

All in all, X-Men Apoc was no better or worse than Last Stand IMO. The balls on Singer to make fun of LS when he made the same turd is hilarious.

I don't quite get the appeal of B&W for this movie.

Maybe the bleakness will stick out more?

What are they trying to say by doing that.

It's a definate must own but regular bluray will do just fine.

I guess it makes it seem more artsy and highbrow. I don't really need black and white. If I wanted that I can just make tv show everything that way

I think a large part of it is that people saw those initial black and white cast photos Mangold took and that, coupled with the somber tone of those Johnny Cash infused trailers, kind of opened the floodgates. Personally, it's something I'd like to see, and I kind of hope it does make its way to a theater near me.

The black and white, sorry, black and chrome, version of Fury Road looked amazing. It's not as simple as just having the picture in black and white, the studio has to tweak the contrast on scenes and regrade others.

lol

Well hold on now it's actually not that simple.

Just turning the color off will leave you with a messy grey (noooooooo!) scale tone.

The studio colorist actually have a method to their madness with making the frame pop even at full greyscale.

Fury Road was a hit and miss. Some fans prefer the color version because of the vibrant colors while others enjoyed the melancholy that the B&W offered.

But with Logan it comes off as a gimmick to me.

Yeah GOTG2 in B&W would suck lol.

But from what Wor-Gar states it even sucks in color lol.

Look, The Good the Bad and the Ugly and Once Upon a Time in the West are both in color so i'm ok with color Logan.

Some films benefit from B&W and I'm sure there's an "artistic" reason so many films in the 50's and 60's were in B&W despite having the technology to film them in color. Sure, it was probably cheaper to shoot in B&W and color being a new gimmick, it probably took some time for filmmakers to master the use of color effectively in the same way they utilized B&W film, so using B&W was also probably a safer choice, but I do think some films just look better in B&W too.

Obviously, a lot of films benefit from color, like the Wizard of Oz, which also uses B&W, but a movie like Logan would look good in B&W. Logan's costume is a black and white suit, and there are many scenes that were film with enough shadows and certain camera angles that can be enhanced by the B&W.

To give it a cool western feel. Hugh said it himself this movie was inspired by unforgiven and such films
