But I guess the point is, both can, and often do, suck.

I see it this way--Mangold (or whoever is doing/releasing these) is doing a little something to hint at what's to come. And in the process, may build up a bit of hype. Is it profound, or even really clever like the viral marketing build-up to the Dark Knight movie? No. But if it's between this and nothing, at least this is something of interest to some of the fans. It's possibly giving you an insight into tone, themes, situations, characters and the like. I doubt it will have negative effects. So, why not?

Really diggin' the Insta campaign they're doing. Every morning at 7:22 (Pacific) we get a very ambiguous glimpse into the film via some very Jarmusch-ian photography.
