ive bein off work now for bout a week now with a real bad flu and in my high temerature state of dissallusion (not bein gettin much sleep):sick
i started to ponder the question of luke's training with yoda.

When luke first goes to train with yoda on dagobah (the empire strikes back) and then returns to finish training (return of the jedi)
yoda has significantly aged.
my question,if anyone has the answer as it's started to bug me:banghead is, how long was luke away from dagobah?

any thoughts peeps?

According to the "New Essential Chronology" it was only 1 year.

You are welcome.

Under my point of view, Yoda age so quickly because he is terminally ill around the time ROTJ take place.

Yeah I think its just age catching up with him. Don't think he aged faster just got sick.

Maybe Yoda was using the force to keep him alive long enough to train Luke. After he did that maybe he started to let himself go. You know like a woman does after she gets some one to marry her............

Aint that the truth :banghead

Yoda was waiting to train Luke. Once the training was complete he wasn't needed anymore so he could become one with the force.

So Luke got a crash course of Jedi training??? Also why was Ghost Ben wearing his robe when , clearly he forgot it on the Death Star???

I don´t see the Jedi Ghost form as a strictly non-physical representation of the Jedi physical self. To me it is more an idealized self chosen by the Jedi when he die.

I don't think Yoda considered Luke's jedi training complete. He certainly didn't at the end of ESB and I just don't think he changed his mind in that time. I agree that he either got sick, or that eventually his age caught up with him and he went downhill very quickly.

For that matter, why was only the cloak left behind? :lol

outer rim: i agree what u saying about the jedi ghost robes.
agent0028:i think u right amigo,if luke had stayed and trained then he might have bein even greater!!!..but such was the will of the force,he was anakin's son after all so impulse was a givin.(in regards to rushing off to cloud city).

It just occured to me to think of the sequence of events in AOTC and ESB. In AOTC Obi-Wan scolded Anakin for jeaporadizing the mission to savce Padme. However Yoda showed him the error of this thinking when he saved Obi-Wan and Anakin instead of stopping Dooku. But then years later Yoda advocated Luke leaving Han and Leia to their fate in order to pursue his Jedi training and defeat Palpatine and Vader.

Of much more interest is, how long did Lukes Training on Dagobah really last?
I mean, Luke arrives there. Nearly at the same time the Falcon chase begins. Then the Falcon hides and escapes to Bespin. On Bespin Vader already awaits our heroes. Not much later Luke arrives on Bespin....

So how long would you estimate the whole escape of the Falcon from Hoth to Bespin? I would assume a few hours maybe a day. Maximum 2 days.

So Luke's superduper Jedi Training lasts a woopin' day or 2... wow....

The Hyperdrive on the Falcon didn't work, so it took a few weeks for Han and Leia to reach Bespin...At least that's how I rationalize it.

Yeah, it was several weeks at the very least. It wouldn't surprise me if it were 1-2 months in fact. Based on Han's dialogue, I surmise they would just reach Bespin under their current fuel and ration supplies.
