Why are people making out that there being forced to upgrade to blu ray ? :lol I'm only upgrading my favorite movies for example I'll be buying the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre , the first 3 Friday the 13th movies and the first Nightmare on Elm Street ( when available ) on blu ray but I will be keeping all the sequels with my old dvd boxsets.
I'm going to wait for the Extended editions of this personally , I can't wait to see some of those battle scenes and scenery shots in HD though. :rock

this is bull a hate this blue ray new dvd crap.first we buy are fav movies on vhs then dvd comes so we rebuy all are fav on dvd, then hd comes people re buy there favs on hd then blu ray comes and we have to rebuy are hole dvd collection again but on blue ray what the hell is next.in 5 years the new dvds will come out then we will be getting rid of are blue rays and buyung the new stuff.its stupid thats why l dont buy dvds l get them a different way on not wasting thousands of dollars on the same movies over and over again.

For you, I would suggest reading the LOTR books instead... ;)

I think its only a matter of time and kinda inevitable that blu-ray players will slowly only be made to play blu-ray discs. These companies know how to make big bucks and I feel they are gently nudging us towards the changeover. I have no blu-ray discs and a VERY large collection of DVD's so if this does happen...well....:mad:

Are you saying that Blu-ray players will one day not be capable of playing DVDs? Because I just don't see that happening. Backwards compatability is very important.

Exactly. Even if some do, others will offer the capability so as to attract more sales. There's no conspiracy here!

I've done that a couple of times and it's been great everytime. You got something to look forward too.

Yep, I'm thinking about doing this with the blus too - invite over 11 folks to watch it as an all Saturday sort of marathon. I'll be buying these, even though I prefer the EE's.

I created my own Lotr HD EE. I recorded the trilogy from CMore HD (1080p) and cut it with the EE scenes (upscale DVD).

Here are some screens of ROTK:

I'll be getting both wersions of the film on Blu-Ray. But I'll probably wait for the price to go down because they always do.

Lord Of The Rings Trilogy Pre-Sell Steelbook - Blu-ray Disc from Best Buy is the 6-disc set not just the steelbook case. I called Best Buy CS to confirm.
For less than twenty bucks shipped I ordered it.

I am a fan of not only the orginal films but the extended as well.
To me, not honoring the makers of the original LotR versions is the same as not honoring the original SW trilogy versions or any other original theatrical versions.

I do wish the EE would be released in the same set as they are my preferred versions but they are not. Atleast not until next year. Yes I will get the EE as well.

is the 9 disc boxset over priced? Yes.
But, the 6 disc steelbook set is... well... a steel in my book.

I think I'll be ok with the theater editions. There is no way can I sit through the EE. I'm not THAT big of a LOTR fan.

I'm betting this is wrong. You're not going to get 6 blu-rays in a steelbook for $15. The way I figure it, you get the steelbook right away and $15 will apply towards the set.

On their site, it says this ships right away. When you get it, let us know what it says.

Edit:

Here is the ad in store for the steelbook case. If you blow up the ad, you're read where it states that you WILL NOT get the discs with it. In store you put down $5 towards the discs, online I guess it's $15. Anyway, from what I'm reading on some forums, this will only hold 6 discs, so it's probably meant to hold the individual movie discs that are going to be released seperately. Since I'm not a member of any bluray forums, maybe someone who is can shed some light on this.

I also read that the steel book isn't really steel, but plastic with metal edges.

I questioned the CS on this steelcase and she she put me on hold a few times as she also questioned it. On her final return, she confirmed that it does indeed include the six disc. She even started to tell me what was on each disc.

She was also a bit confused as to why the price was so different from the regular 9 disc set. She was sending a request for the site to be updated as we both agreed that the order info (and lack of) is a little confusing. As of this post the order page has yet to be updated.

I asked that if it was only the case, can I return it to my local retail store and get my money back and she said yes.

I expect the worst and hope for the best. I will let you all know what arrives.

The wife just called Best Buy CS and was also informed that the price does include the movies with the steelbook.
Anyone else wish to try and confirm this info?
