I think they are done with the statue. As far as I am concerned, we know enough about the statue and there isn't much more the statue can add to the story. It started out as a very mysterious concept early in the show and now we know what it is.

The only possible importance the statue could have to the rest of the show is to do with the child birth issues on the island, but I'm not sure if we'll get the full gist of that.

but..................ben was asked if he knew what happened to it/how it was destroyed........and he said he had no idea. and he is an admitted liar, so.............:dunno

makes me think in a future episode we will know why or how it was destroyed or what happened to it..

gotta be a cataclysmic event.

I'm less interested in the destruction of the statue as I am the people that constructed it and the temple and what happened to them.

Also, how does the Black Rock get so far inland? Perhaps their dynamite is responsible for the statue's destruction.

Ditto!

I really don't care how it gets destroyed now. I think the most important part about the statue has been discovered this season.

I think the way the Black rock ended up so far on the island was when one of the times the island was moved it just happened to be where the ship was at that time, causing it to end up in the middle of the island. Just my theory?

The statue is Taweret, confirmation from ABC.com recap:

"In an unknown room, we see a man dressed in white at a spinning wheel creating a tapestry with an intricate design containing Egyptian and Greek symbols. We cut to the man sitting on the beach cooking fish over a fire. It's morning, and on the horizon, out over the ocean, a large ship is sailing towards the island. Another man, this one dressed in black, walks over to the Man in White. The Man in Black asks why the Man in White brought the ship to the island -- is he still trying to prove the Man in Black wrong? The Man in Black says they come, fight, destroy, corrupt, and it always ends the same. The Man in White tells him it only ends once, and everything else is just... progress. The Man in Black says he wants to kill the Man in White, and one day he's going to find a loophole. The Man in White says he'll be right there. The Man in Black leaves and addresses the Man in White as Jacob. Yes, this is Jacob. The camera pulls back over the ocean, and we see they were sitting on the base of a giant stone foot. And next to the foot is another foot -- and both feet have four toes. And as the camera pulls back, we see what we've been waiting to see since we first glimpsed that four-toed foot over three years ago... the towering, majestic statue of the Egyptian goddess Taweret. And we clearly know we're a long time ago, so let's get the finale of season five started --"

"So, it's not Anubis, it's not Sobek. It's Tawaret. I know it doesn't look exactly like some of the hippo-like images that are out there, but as far the show and the story is concerned, the statue is Tawaret, the Egyptian Goddess of fertility.

Interesting, suprised they actually confirmed this. In addition to Tawaret, here's some into on the Moirae, or the Fates, who is Greek myth, were the three "WHITE-ROBED" personficiations of Destiny.
Wasn't Jacob wearing while clothes in his little cave?

Ah, sooo.... The statue's presence (or it's missing toe) was not really explained at all, in fact. Good to know. :) Oh well, glad I didn't miss anything!

;)

on the DVD where sun, jin and saied see the statue foot, someone in the audio commentary says that the statue was originally going to have 6 toes, but they decided on 4 toes instead so people would immediately recognize it's not a human foot.

Yeah! Christian and Yemi's bodies both disappeared. Christian's was not in his casket and when Eko went back to the plane in Season 3 to find Yemi....his body was gone (not even signs of its burnt remains).

This tells me that because they have John Locke's body that something is different.....that John's dead body is different than Christian & Yemi; maybe there is another purpose for his dead body. I don't know, but something is different.

i'm betting that jacob's "spirit" will resurrect the original locke.
then we'll have good and evil locke running around fighting each other. hopefully one of them will grow a goatee like good cartman and evil spock.:lol

seriously, the character of john locke has gone thru too much to end up being the bad guy. hopefully we haven't seen the last of original john locke.

i also bet we'll find out the reason anti-jacob was an invisible spirit in the cabin is because his original body was killed.

Hmm that's interesting... I guess that makes me wrong about why it has four toes?

hmmm just when you think you have lost figured out it goes and does a crazy 180:google last 10 mins was great, although i didnt really like the guy who played jacob, he just looked like a punk kid to me :dunno i think the "they are coming" was referring to the 70's losties, they seem done with the whole 70's era now and theres not alot they can really bring from it story wise. so im guessing there gonna pull the same idea as the ajira flight and just have them unexplainably time travel again, nuclear blast + magnetic blast = time travel maybe :lol was glad to have ben mention the "lists" to jacob aswell. i dont think they ever revealed why the others started kidnapping people in series 2 ?? bring on the final season :banana

this show rocks :rock:rock

I felt the same way at first, I didn't like the choice for Jacob. But after having a few days of thought about the finale....I think they chose the right person for Jacob.

You know what sucks guys? There is no new Lost this week. :(

Oh, and after rewatching the finale I noticed that "Locke" is definately Locke in what he talks about to everybody. How the heck are they going to explain this version of Locke?

Not sure what that means.

Re-watching this season is interesting knowing Locke is not really himself. Such as Richard telling faux Locke as soon as he sees him that "there is something different about you" or when evil Locke gives real Locke the message that he must die, Ben says something like "You must be having an out of body experience right now," and Locke says ominously, ".....something like that".

The part of the finale that throws me off is "Locke"s and Ben's conversation about the time they both met Jacob together. Locke asks him if he ever seen Jacob and Ben admits that he hasn't. Why, if "Locke" isn't Locke does he have this conversation? That happened so long ago. This conversation proves to me that evil Locke is still Locke.

Off topic but...Both the guys that played Jacob and Phil in Season 5 played together in the David Lynch movie "Mulholland Drive",a very weird, yet very good movie.

He, Jacob's nemesis, was trapped in the cabin when Locke and Ben came to visit. Disguised as Locke, he is manipulating Ben, pushing his buttons - that he's no longer leader, never really was special, never saw Jacob, the death of Alex, etc. - to get him to kill Jacob.

But!!!!!

There was also the scene where Locke and Ben sit down to rest and behind them is the hatch door and Locke makes some reference to Ben about it....something like "That's where we first met, in the hatch". And I didn't see any hint of Mr.X being there.

So it could be Locke somehow, but if it isn't.....Mr. X whom has seemed to taken the form of Locke has somehow pertained all of Locke's memories from his life.

whos for jack being the next leader of the "others" :lol just an idea, he seems to be acting alot like locke lately

We've seen at least twice that smokey can do that and it all seems to fit that Esau and smokey are connected. I wouldn't be surprised what Esau knows. He certainly seems to know as much about the island and the Losties as Jacob does, and Jacob knows quite a lot. Certainly more than any other characters.

I think the whole interaction between "Locke" and Jacob makes it pretty obvious that Jacob's nemesis has assumed Locke's identity and Locke as we knew him is gone.

Not addressing this at you per se, but it must be difficult writing a mystery show like this for the least common denominator in the audience, having to spell everything out so clearly. That's one thing I really admired about Twin Peaks and David Lynch films in general. He just goes with it and if you're confused, fine. Comprehension and understanding of the whys and hows are not necessarily the most important things.
