Not mine, wish I cold take credit for it. Read it as part of my Wednesday lunch ritual. (reading EW.com’s ‘essay’ on the last episode of LOST. It’s normally pretty long (6 pages), but damn is it a good read!

In fact, think about the wondrous things associated with Jacob. Richard's eternal youth. The resurrection hot spring. And, if you believe Ben from season 3, a cure for cancer. Jacob isn't ''good,'' per se — he's just capable of giving life. Put another way: Jacob is the god of beginnings. He is The Alpha. The Man in Black? Not evil — he's the god of endings. He is the Omega. The beginning and the end. Polar, warring opposites, but absolutely necessary for life to bloom (Alpha) and to have form (Omega). Both are necessary for anything to have meaning. Jacob unchecked leads to chaos; Man In Black unchecked leads to annihilation. Both need to exist in balance; both need to be equally weighted rocks on the scale.

I have not read the content in quotes above yet (all I saw was the word 'Alpha' and that was too much :horror). If it's from an ‘essay’ on the last episode of LOST I don't think I want to. I know that this thread says "thar be spoilers ahead!" but yikess! I don't want to know anything at all about the final episode!!!

Is there anything spoiler-ish in the portion of the essay quoted or can I read it?

The casting call for the Mysterious Boy described him as "Teenage boy, caucasian, 12-14. Dirty blond hair. Wise beyond his years. He's got intense, searching eyes. He's dealt with a horrible family accident. Even at a young age, he has been put in charge of something very important, and it weighs heavily on his shoulders."

The call sheet for Jacob described him as "Former soldier. A leader of men. Smart but more than that – he is wise. Strong and straightforward. The words he says are always listened to and they carry gravitas."

And Aaron... um... special baby? but meaningful to the story special or Walt/Miles special? :huh

Not sure what to make of this post. It certainly doesn't prove anything about the Mysterious Boy's identity.

But, what I want to know is where you got that info. Just curious. It seems so spoiler-ish that I can hardly believe the casting call would be that specific...

Even though I love discussing LOST I may need to stay away from this thread. :(

Is there a spoiler free LOST discussion thread?

Sadly there isn't. Spoiler threads are always tricky because there is grey area on exactly what spoiler threads can say and what they can't. I always take spoilers to mean up to and including the latest aired episode and nothing beyond. Then you can use the spoiler bar for things beyond that. Of course part of the problem even with that definition is whether rumours and theories classify as spoilers. Technically they aren't since they may or may not be correct, but then if they are its less of a surprise.

Personally I skip over posts that appear to talk about theories and future episodes and stick with the ones pertaining to past episodes.

The article I quoted above was just a theory. No spoilers at all, just an idea. Nothing spoily about episodes to come. And I meant the last AIRED episode, not the last on the series.

That's the best theory yet - "good vs. evil" is just way too simple and the alpha/omega thing seems to fit. Jack is a healer and thus an alpha, Sayid an assassin, thus an Omega. Now were they destined for these roles?

Okay, pheew! :)

Sounds right to me.

To me rumors are basically spoilers, but I don't personally have any problem with theories. I love speculating with other fans. That's part of what makes the show fun for me.

Speaking of fan speculation, do any of you listen to any of the fan podcasts?

I listen to The LOST Podcast With Jay & Jack and LOST Podcast: The Transmission. I also listen to the official LOST podcast, but it's not as good.

I highly recommend The Transmission. I look forward to it each week almost as much as the actual show! Look it up on iTunes!

it proves nothing but yet is spoilerish. :rotfl

and yes, call sheets are specific, often very, about character traits.

Not trying to prove anything, just letting those come to their own conclusions based on the writers' character descriptions. No ones buys anyone else's theories anyway (even though I've been consistently correct ;) ). The 'wise', 'strong' & 'in charge of something important' descriptions do seem very similar, and the specific desire for a blonde with intense eyes does jive with the actor they had already cast for Jacob.

As long as we're recommending others musings, here's link to the most current 'essay' by Jeff 'Doc' Jenson on EW.com. It's where I pulled the above snippet from. WELL worth the weekly read.

Nothing spoilery about any upcoming episodes, just pure speculation based on previous episodes and trying to draw comparisons to other mediums and possible inspirations.

Not sure if it's 100% true, but I heard that in one of the last few episodes of the series...

...not a single one of the lead actors/series regulars will appear.

If true, that's a pretty ballsy move this late in the game. The possibilities, however, are intriguing...

Thanks for the sp tag, Tom. I'm all for speculation but don't want to read leaks n such. :monkey1 I am tempted to click tho...

Yup, true. It's supposed to be an episode entirely about...

the backstory of the MiB and it begins somewhere 23 AD. Or something...

I hate spoilers, but I'm always tempted to click those spoiler buttons. Clearly I have a problem with temptation.
