It was great, action packed, and i liked it, but what did we learn? Nothing? Felt like the weakest of the season, and a filler seen in seasons past.

Wha?!? Best episode of the season so far. Reunited characters, lots of good action (on island and off), deaths of what seemed like - prior to this episode - important characters, and the next recruit for Smokey.

Not every episode has to answer questions to be good or considered as not filler. This one felt pivotal.

Thumbs up!

I agree. I can feel the war gearing up!

Things are really ramping up! Just when I was getting settled in and comfortable with the Temple, Sayid kills half the guest stars in five minutes...

It was fun seeing Keamy again. It sucked losing Dogen already, but at least he didn't wear out his welcome. I liked seeing Kate find Claire and not having that subplot be drawn out. It doesn't seem like there are too many more things for the Man In Black to check off his to do list, and it definitely feels like Team Jacob is losing ground as we are heading towards the climax. I'm going to miss this show.

What about the story of how Dogen came to the island?? How Jacob gave his son a second chance in exchange for him coming to the island?? It sounds more and more like Jacob and MiB are just two sides of the same coin. Even the people on Jacob's side aren't entirely happy with the situation.

I thought exactly the same thing. Dogen and Juliette's stories are both very similar.

Anyone else feeling like Jacob and MiB may be the same person after last night's episode? When Sayid asked Dogen who MiB was and he replied that he was pure evil, why didn't he name him. MiB has to have a name doesn't he? Why wouldn't Dogen say something like "He is Jim, and he is pure evil"? This makes me think they are both Jacob in some fashion.

i rather enjoyed seeing keamy get what was coming to him ..........again.........:gun

sayid FTW.......:D

I'm still trying to figure out what was up with Dugen sending Sayid out to kill Smokey.

What Smokey said wasn't true - Dugen (who was obviously a 'contender' originally) knows that contenders can't be killed by Smokey. Does he not know that Sayid is a contender? And can contenders past or present kill contenders? If they can't, was that what stayed his hand at Sayid's throat?

So if he knew that Sayid couldn't be killed by Smokey, did he actually think Sayid could kill him with that knife? Or was he being absolutely literal when he told Sayid that he had to strike before Smokey spoke, and that's what threw the monkey wrench into the situation?

Going back to something I brought up last week - assuming that what we've seen of Jacob and Smokey plays out as Jacob's job is selecting the contenders, and it's Smokey's job to test said contenders, trying to get them all to fail...how do we not know that this whole thing is just more of the same 'testing'? We're assuming Smokey is telling the truth when he says he wants off the island...but what if all of this is just a test to defeat the current contenders? I think he's managed to win with Sayid...

As to some conversation about the other survivors and their purpose (like Ecko), that's clear - they were being used as part of the testing. Smokey used them to try to destroy (or at least attempt to destroy) the contenders. When we go back and watch the entire series end to end, I think their individual purposes will become much more clear. Of course, some of them are just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

But that implies he doesn't know Sayid is a contender...but I think he didn't kill Sayid himself because he DOES know he's a contender. Remember with Hurley? Jacob told him that because he was a contender, Dugen couldn't stop him, and when Hurley pointed that out to him, Dugen backed off.

Which leaves the other possibility - that the contenders don't know they can't be killed by Jacob or Smokey directly. That makes sense since if they knew that, it might screw up the 'game' entirely.

Explain, please.

I think the baseball falling to the floor simply reminded Dugen of why he was there - which reminded him of his new 'job', which includes not being able to kill Sayid. When Sayid asked him why he didn't just kill him, Dugen gave him a non-answer about how he ended up there. He did that since he couldn't say "Because you're a contender and I can't kill you."

You're right and so is Evil Face. Just like MiB sent Ben to kill Jacob because he could not do it himself, is it such a stretch to believe Dugen sent Sayid to the MiB for the same reason? He may have known he couldn't kill a candidate but perhaps he didn't know MiB couldn't either.

Or maybe the writers just flubbed it? :dunno :lol
