I wonder if the mythology of the mother is tied into the fact that the Others couldn't give birth??

Sawyer- "Where's Sayid?... Did you lose him too?"

[jump over dialogue]

Locke- "I don't like secrets."

Some great lines--- Sideways flashback :naughty -- and fun stuff.

Good episode... Only six more to go.

The worse episode of the season so far for me.....Ab Aeterno made the season pick up again and then the package just sucked. I've never been fond of Jin/Sun episodes.....and other then learning about the package which was an easy guess, in my opinion nothing else significant was shown that we could have learned about in 5 minutes rather than over 45 minutes.

My fave line tonight was 'Hey! Don't talk about bacon.'

Good episode, though I could have done without the bit with Sun losing her ability to speak English. Unless they take it somewhere more significant, it seems like a random plot device.

It was nice seeing more of Keamey even though of course he know what eventually happens to him...but then that scene leads to the big "OH NO!" scene of the flash-sideways sequence. SUN!

Enjoyed it a bunch. It was great to see Mikhail again and the eye shot was a nice wink to the auidence.

Interesting bits...

MiB needing all Candidates to leave. He's having to jump through a bunch more hoops to get uncorked than I thought. What a bum deal. And what would happen if he tried to leave but didn't have them all? Hmm

MiB's mention of Kate's name no longer being on the cave wall, and the fatalistic 'whatever happens, happens' comment, were interesting. Especially that Austen was marked out on the cave wall but not on the Lighthouse list. The cave may be a false list planted by Jacob to deceive MiB.

Jack's all too Jacob-like "stubborn tomato" conversation with Sun.

Also Widmore's our daughters will "cease to be" (sideways timeline w/ sunk Island?) if MiB leaves comment. Can Desmond see into the sideways world?

And more talk of sacrifice. Not everybody's getting the happy ending.

I noticed those bits to. The sound effect when MiB mentioned that Kate was not a candidate seems to indicate there is some significance there. I was afraid that they just left her out because they only have 6 numbers and someone had to be left out.

Looks like we really are getting down to a 'save the world' scenario here. Inevitable for a show this epic I guess.

Good call on Desmond seeing the sideways world. That would be very cool.

I can still see them as brothers, but after re-watching the beach scene I'm less inclined to think MiB had anything to do with his mom's death, more likely others that come to the Island. His "they always bring fighting, destruction and corruption" comment places blame and anger with outsiders not himself. But maybe she sided with them in some way, "betraying" him, and he did them all in Ben Linus style. :naughty :lol

I'm really worried for Jin and Sun. Is anyone else worried that only one Kwon will survive to the end? Something about the previous episode really hit that thought home for me. It of course started when we learned that only one Kwon was etched on the cave wall and lighthouse as a candidate, but there were some signs in this episode that bolster my worries. One, It seems now that the MiB can only leave the island with the candidates in tow, so it would be easier if he only needed one Kwon, right? Two, Sun suffers a serious gunshot wound in flash sideways timeline. Three, as if it were prophetic, Keamey says to Jin "I'm sorry, some people aren't meant to be together." And the scene with Jin looking through the photos of his daughter...

I worry for them because out of all the relationships in this show, there's is the least annoying.

I know what you mean. I don't know if this meant anything or not,
but in the sideways world Jin is still "Kwon" whereas Sun is "Paik", since they are not married. To me, that answers the question about who the candidate is. :(

A little foreshadowing?

My favorite conversation from the episode:

"Why don't you trust me?"

"You're talking.":rotfl

Now a question: we have seen many secondary characters in the sideways-verse world, but have they shown Kelvin yet?

Sideways Sun can't speak English, and I'm guessing that we are getting some sort of a bleeding between timelines, as with unconscious Juliet waking back up with trace memories from the other timeline.

Death on the Island (or vice versa?) might transport your consciousness to the other timeline. Maybe as more people start dying on the Island, their minds will start showing up in the alternate/sideways timeline and they will each need a constant when they arrive. Desmond's unique ability to flash between Island and sideways timelines is going to be important in one way or another.

MIB can't leave the Island while there are still candidates alive there. It's hogwash that they can't leave unless they are all together--we have already seen some of them leave and come back. MIB is lying and just wants to get them all in one place so that he can kill them all and be free of the Island.

Widmore has recruited a geophysicist to study the electromagnetic pockets on the Island and find the best way to trigger a volcanic eruption and sink the Island, trapping MIB underwater forever with nobody else able to visit the Island. Game over--the end. Everybody else can either die in the process or leave on the plane or sub or live happily ever after in the other timeline. Or both. Or neither, lol.

Sweet! I knew what the package would be. :D

Ditto!!!

Really?
I thought it was a lot of fun, I like Sun and Jin
So seeing what their alternate life is, was interesting
Also how they tied it in with Sayid's was nice, as well as seeing Mikhail again!

Cape Fear Sayid creept the hell out of me! :horror

No kidding!!
Though he reminded me of Rambo too!

Good point about Sun's English. Definitely some bleed over between original and sideways worlds. Sun's mirror stare down shot this week was very blatant. Where's Ellie and Faraday when you need them? Des will just have to do. :D

And agreed that a geophysicist seems poised to trigger a volcanic Island meltdown. Which is odd in that it seems Jacob wanted Widmore to find the Island knowing he means to destroy it. But if he's so nonplussed about his magic mirror getting smashed up I image he'd roll with the Island sinking without much distress.

I can certainly see MiB gathering the Candidates together to kill them all at once, he sincerely needs them marked off the list one way or another, but I wonder what his plans are for Jack and Hurley knowing they are pretty stubborn tomatoes firmly with Team Jacob?

Im still kind of shocked that Widmore wants to stop MiB as opposed to using the island for some reason....maybe he isn't the "bad guy"

Didn't they already say that MiB can't hurt/kill the candiates...?

Oh not kill them directly. Setup something where they shoot each other or get on the plane and it blows up or some such. And besides, don't tell him what he can't do! :lol

Widmore saying that everyone would cease to exist if MiB gets off the island seems to be a more definite idea of the thread. And it's kind of unbelieveable, so it's more likely to be a true statement, or at least what he believes.

As for candidates leaving and coming back - I think it is more likely that Flocke wants to kill all of them or perhaps in order for him to leave too, they all have to be together?

In the sideways flash, we have another situation that seems odd to me. Originally Jin got a job with Sun's father because they were getting married. Now it appears the job preceeded their getting together. I see this as similar to Hurley being a lottery winner although he never got the island numbers. Or perhaps neither thing means anything at all.
