Well I figured they didn't just have the sideways reality for the hell of it. I knew it would play a part. My problem is right now it makes no sense whatsoever. Its like they've just tossed people into the mix and tied them together however it worked. I don't know if that makes any sense.

Now if they have some point not yet revealed where all the interconnections (is that a word?) makes sense I may change my mind, but right now it just doesn't make enough sense to be satisfying.

Guess I just have more faith that they have had this thing planned from the start!

I trust the writers, and I feel like we are finally getting a look inside their minds in terms of the end game! :rock

Interesting stuff:

• The producers hope to bring Walt back. It's just that the actor who plays him, Malcolm David Kelley, is much taller now. "We are actually working on a way to try to bring Walt back before Lost is all said and done," Cuse said. Want to know how he'll come back? "He'll be riding on the Hurley bird," joked Lindelof.

Hmmmm....does that mean that he'll be dead???? We already saw Michael in the preview.....

Oh I'm sure they've had a great deal planned out from the begining, maybe even everything. Maybe what I'm trying to say is that the sideways reality feels contrived.

Like Locke goes to a employment agency where Rose is a manager which is owned by Hurley. And Sawyer is a cop partnered with Miles who sets Sawyer up with Charlotte. That stuff just doesn't make sense to me. I really hope the writers do have a surprise for us that makes it all come together and make sense, but I'm at a complete loss for what it could be.

Yeah.... if you're expecting some form of a reveal that explains all the characters crossing paths and knowing each other in the Sideways, you're not going to get one. The point is, these people were destined to end up together on the Island. They were always meant to be there, to do what they did there. You take the Island away and they are still drawn together because of some force stronger than an atomic bomb. They were always meant to know each other. That is all the explanation we'll get, and really, as long as whatever ultimately happens on the Island delivers the goods (which I have no doubt it will) and the Sideways itself is explained (which it already has started to be) then it is all the explanation I need.

I just assume it's to show that all of these people are connected. They are needed for some greater purpose.

Yeah I can get the connections are to show fate or destiny or whatever is drawing them together on and off the island. But it doesn't seem natural to me, I feel like they're just putting people in places and changing their lives willy nilly. I dunno, I guess I can't explain it.

GREAT episode. I've always loved Des and Penny, so I was grinning like they were at the end of the episode. And such a cool way to converge the timelines. I don't think I've ever been so looking forward to a series finale.

Looking forward to it ending.

Looking forward to the bluray re-watch even more! :lecture

Precisely! :clap

This may have already been discussed to death, but I just finally got around to watching the episode last night. Great stuff, but it confused me on a couple points, annoyed me on another...but there might be a reason.

First, my confusion. Let me see if you saw what I saw: When Desmond gets blasted by a strong magnetic field, his 'essence' (soul, mind energy, whatever) is able to connect between the two realities. He can't be conscious in both at the same time, hence the passing out on the island. Right? But at what moment was he in the other body, aware of the other timeline? We didn't actually see any of that in the sideways flash, right? The reason I'm saying that is because when it happened before, he was really there, mentally. What they were showing us in the sideways reality didn't show him actually aware like that - it showed him getting flashes, just like Charlie or Jack or Faraday, but not completely aware. So does that mean they were really screwing with us, and the sideways reality was NOT what Desmond was actually experiencing while he was passed out on the island, but rather simply his sideways flash story?

If you follow that train of thought, it implies that the moment that the blast occured was actually when he passed out after touching Penny - he passed out in both realities. And when he came to, he had swapped places. The Desmond now on the island is the sideways reality version, and the Des with Penny is Island Des. Does that seem right?

It makes sense with his weird change of attitude and personality, especially on the island, and his odd look at both Widmore and Sayid. But that also means that while it looked like he was going to help Widmore, that was just because he ALWAYS helps Widmore - for sideways Des, that's an automatic response. Hmmmm...I really like that part.

Now my annoyance, that might still eventually make sense. This is the second time Des has gotten zapped by EMP. The first time, he also traveled, but we assumed it was in time. Now it seems like that was wrong - he traveled to a different timeline, not back in his own. At least I hope so, otherwise I'm going to be very annoyed. If the EMP sent him to another timeline this time, it better have done the same thing before, otherwise it's just a writer's crutch. And if it did send him to another timeline before, that says there are many - which makes it a bit more confusing as to why they have to worry about this particular one so much, or why it's causing specific problems.

Oh, and my last annoyance that I doubt they'll do anything to correct - they are acting like it's only the people involved with the island that are mucked up with two sets of memories. But every human being would have two sets of memories - they've all lived (or died) through a section of the two timelines. I've always thought this was one of the weaknesses of King's use of the same theme in the second book of the Dark Tower.

^^^^

I would only want something like that if it was comprehensive, i.e. made after the entire sieries is finished.

I actually do hope someone makes something like that that has timeliness and questions - both those that have been answered and those that have not...

Plus there is always Lostpedia.

lostpedia is hardly offical.

then you are in luck. it is.

Seeing things like this really make me wonder what goes on behind the scenes in the negotiations for licensees and licensors.

There are some very vocal and but limited fanbases that have been craving Venture Bros and Lost figures. And this Bif Bang Pow company gets both and churn out crap. I think they're doing Dexter stuff, too. Do these guys have compromising pictures of everyone in Hollywood or something??
