Walt was physically growing too fast for the show so they had to write him out. The guy that played Eko was originally slated for 4 seasons but wanted off the show. If I recall correct, Michelle Rodriguez and the actress who played Libby both had DUIs and I'm not surprised they were written out of the show either.

There are reasons, sometimes outside the writer's control, where they have to change the story and inconsistencies can pop up.

Yep! people dont get it though lol. Plus going over budget as well.

I'm not gonna enter a debate with you, because i know it wont go anywhere.

So I'll just say: Your Wrong!!! :lecture

I think a lot of people are very literal-minded and are bothered by the fact that everything doesn't relate in a neat package and I can understand that.
I'm sure my own way of thinking influences my satisfaction with the finale.

I just don't understand why some people are so determined to prove that it was all some kind of sham. The writers themselves have admitted that in one way they knew what was going to happen and in another they were making stuff up as they went. No one claimed it was going to be or is perfect.

At the same time, a lot of the "mysteries" that supposedly went unresolved actually were if you think about it. And if not, there were enough hints to come to your own conclusion.

Personally, I'm still discovering connections and seeing hints that were dropped years ago. I don't want to rewatch anything yet because I want to see what else I can remember on my own before I give it another go. I can't ask for more than that.

I liked the finale. I'm not going to go on and on about it though. Bottom line, I'll miss the show and it's one of my favorites.

On to: Six Feet Under.

I don't believe for a second they knew there would be Jacob and the MiB and a cork etc.

They planted things throughout the early seasons that could be picked up and used later. Conversations like this one in the pilot:

LOCKE: Backgammon is the oldest game in the world. Archeologists found sets when they excavated the ruins of ancient Mesopotamia. Five thousand years old. That’s older than Jesus Christ.

WALT: Did they have dice and stuff?

LOCKE: [nods] Mhhm. But theirs weren’t made of plastic. Their dice were made of bones.

WALT: Cool.

LOCKE: Two players. Two sides. One is light … one is dark. Walt, do you want to know a secret?

Now, that's sufficiently vague and I wouldn't argue that they had the specifics of the Jacob/MIB relationship completely detailed at that point--but I do think they knew where they wanted to take things, and they set themselves for a conflict out of "The Stand" knowing they could come back to that foreshadowing later and play around with it.

But I grant that there were plenty of other seeds they planted along the way that they never went back and harvested. I guess that's how it goes when you're writing without an end date.

The producers had this to say about Jacob, even before the end of the third season:

"And this is a character(Jacob) who is every bit as significant to our universe as the Emperor was to the Star Wars universe — a character that you didn't get to meet until Return of the Jedi but was referred to all through the preceding films. Jacob is a guy who is going to have a very significant, ongoing sort of story value in our show."

I don't know how fleshed out Palpatine was in the mind of George Lucas in 1977, but the character (like Yoda) in retrospect became a major part of the Star Wars mythology. I think the comparison to Jacob is appropriate.

I only just finished watching the finale an hour ago. Well, I enjoyed it, a lot of great character stuff that did in fact bring tears to my eyes. Lost has done that on a few occasions.

However I'm inclined to agree with Barbeliths points. Most of everything that seemed important and mysterious throughout the run of the show as far as I can see didn't really tie into what we got in this finale. Very enjoyable at the time but the hindsight I now have (because its over) has revealed more than I would have liked to be merely incidental. Important things 'just were' on the show, not much explanation, and I'm not sure I'm satisfied with that. Kind of ironic because as far as I'm concerned everything 'just is' in life and so far I haven't found a need to question it. Maybe when someone in my immediate family dies I will question it, emotions I'm sure can make you do that.

So overall, I think it was a great series - never less than engaging - but its left me a bit ".........ok....?" for want of a better way to put it. :lol

Oh and I agree with whoever was disappointed in how they killed real Locke way back when. Not that any of it was poorly handled and it did play host to those great Ben/Locke scenes in the finale - I just regret the end he came to. I suppose thats the kind of reaction the writers wanted in a way.

I'm not surprised that writers like David Fury and Drew Goddard didn't know the plan of the series. If Lindelof and Cuse told every writer the overarching plot of the entire series, then it'd be pretty easy for it to leak out, and there goes your cool ending.

First up: Characters > Mythology. It's a 'need VS. want' scenario. Do I want to know what's up with the Hurley Bird? Yes. Do I need to in order to get the greater themes of the show? No. That's pretty much my thoughts on the the 'unanswered questions'.

Not every story is told from A - Z. With Lost, we were shown R - X and then a little of E and F, and a little of Z.

Also... this should be interesting:

“For those people that want to pony up and buy the complete ‘Lost’ series, there is a bonus feature, which is, um, you could call it an epilogue. A lost scene. It’s a lot. It’s 12 or 14 minutes that opens a window onto that gap of unknown time between Hurley becoming number one and the end of the series.”

Yes. This is exactly how serialized writing works whether it's Charles Dickens or Neil Gaiman. It's the challenge and part of the appeal of that style.

I'm sure it'll be online a few days prior to the release.

I was going to buy the complete series anyways so it's wasn't a deal breaker.
