Misdirection, like any writing technique is only good when written well and used in a way that makes sense within the entirety of the story.

The misdirection of LOST is more akin to finding out at the end of the Sixth Sense that Bruce Willis was actually an alien. Or the Rebellion in Star Wars deciding to team up with the Empire (acting like they never did anything bad to them ever) to battle Satan to keep him from taking over heaven; forgetting completely about the space battles and Force stuff.

I couldn't disagree more.

Since when was misdirection a bad writing technique? :dunno

I guess you were pissed off at Sixth Sense when we were misdirected to believe Bruce was alive or at the misdirection that Vader killed Luke's father.

Exactly... misdirection by letting us make our own assumptions is one thing, but to blatantly show someone striking an atomic bomb with an ensuing "flash" as if it went off, just to come back and say it was an island "flash" instead, isn't misdirection, it is lying to your audience in an attempt at misdirection... poor writing in my own personal opinion.

I like LOST... I'm buying the complete series on blu-ray... but I'm not gonna just "gloss over" all the stuff they "conveniently" forgot, changed, or just plain didn't address.

Just rewatching the ep when Richard tells Sun that he "watched them all die"

I know there was the question as to why Richard said he saw the Losties die, when they never died. Rewatching it though, it seems like Richard was just referring the the Dharma folk in general. Sun showed him a picture of a group of Dharma people, and Richard didn't know any of them personally, besides Horace, so he was probably telling Sun he watched all of them die when the Others gassed them all.

Interesting... anyone else have thoughts on that?

It couldn't just be a "island flash".

Why that exact second if Jughead wasn't responsible.

I think I have mistaken the LOST thread for a Star Wars thread with all this nitpicking and hyperbole.

;)

Nitpicking would be complaining about setting off the bomb with a rock... neglecting just about everything between the pilot and finale and asking for answers about it... is not.

I think it became twists and misdirection for their own sake, in other words the writers somewhat lost the forest for the trees.

I clicked the link when I saw it, but it took to long for the new page to open and load. I still got to the last step of checkout, but clicking the confirmation button gave me an error message.

Even at more than twice the price, it went fast.

I missed out on the regs so I was very happy to get this one, tom. And the shipping cost from DC & Polar Bear was $15.10 for me, so this AP was slightly less than twice the price.

I don't know about favorite episodes but when Desmond talks to Penny on the phone in The Constant = my favorite moment of the series.

Easily one of the best episodes in the history of television!^
Let's not forget John's 'walkabout' episode.
"Don't tell me what I can't do" :)
I really love the one where Jack sees his Dad for the first time, on island. "All the best cowboys etc" is a great one. Exodus, S2 finale. Too many to list. Damn I miss it :(

What I find weird also btw, and I strangely haven't vented on the Net as of yet. Ab Aterno.
FANTASTIC episode that was SO SO SOOOOO after it's time. It should have been shown (although slightly altered) SEASONS ago, or even at the beginning as soon as we saw who Jacob was. I felt it was really oddly placed, THE worst placed episode of the whole series. It could have fit in tonnes better if we had already been given that info on Richard earlier on.
