I don't think the ship is Dharma. Dharma air drops food on the island from time to time.

I think maybe Kate has a handler who will be wondering where she is maybe?

her handler doesn't happen to be this guy does it?

OH wait, sorry....wrong show.

So I guess I've been posting in this thread too much as I had a weird Lost dream last night. Everyone was running around fast motion Benny Hill style and Wayne Coyne and the Flaming Lips were there singing:

If you could blow up the world with the flick of a switch
Would you do it?
If you knew all the answers and could give it to the masses
Would you do it?
No no no no no no are you crazy?
It's a very dangerous thing to do exactly what you want
Because you cannot know yourself or what you'd really do
With all your power
With all your power
With all your power

Anyone seen the film Forbidden Planet? It's basically a scifi version of Shakespeare's Tempest. A powerful magician exiled on an island is helped by a trapped spirit. Interlopers crash onto the island. The magican manipulates these people attempting to protect his family from leaving him and the island. Eventually the magic is lost and everyone leaves the island.

There is also a monster loose on the island. In the tempest it's Caliban, in Lost it's Smokey, in Forbidden Planet it's a monster created from the subconcious id. Ben talked about the island as a "magic box" that makes your desires come true. What if the island functioned like the Krell machine as well, making your hopes and fears reality? Ben has hangups about his mother dying in childbirth - women now mysteriously die in childbirth, Jack has issues being a leader - he's now put into a postion where he must lead, Locke fears being made a fool and making bad decisons - on the island again he makes bad decisions and feels like Jack, Ben, etc. play him for a fool.

EDIT: season 3 The Unexplored Edition

Excellent connection to The Tempest and Forbidden Planet (oh Leslie Nielsen--back when you were a serious actor)... I think the isladn could definitely be like the Krell machine, and Dharma (like Prospero) have stumbled upon--- a crashed alien spaceship (?) that they were studying and attempting to unlock its mysteries... could the temple be built around said starship?

Anyway--- I like your analogy..especially since in the Sopranos thread a made a comparison to Tony and Richard III.:D

In other news, did anyone hear about the Lost game available for the ipod? Apparently you collect food/supplies, help the injured and go to places like the Black Rock and the hatch.

That sounds like a hell of a game.

D'oh! I did not get those connections, especially the one about Ben!

And love the comparisons re Forbidden Planet and Tempest. Very true. :rock

I haven't read thru all the posts relating to the last episode, but what I read killed my theory about Jack's Dad. If the newspaper clipping is indeed dated from 2007 and that is purposeful and not a slip up then my theory is dead. In an interview, either Cuse or Lindhoff stated that the 815er's haven't been on the island as long as they believe. Another comment in the same interview is the redemption theme throughout the series. My theory was that the island is a pocket universe where people go to to work out the huge issues of their lives and then are plopped back into the "real world" and are able to resolve them and be better off. I had thought the possibly Jack was placed back in the real world before his Dad died, so he could work out his issues. Kate, same deal, put back before she killed her stepdad. Jake and Kate have full knowledge of the island and their memories, but the "real" world does not. This theory falls apart considring the obit clipping date and the fact that Oceanic gave Jack lifetime passage to anywhere in the world, presumedly because of the crash.
So I dunno.
Interesting about the magic box connection to death in childbirth with Ben though.
I also think that maybe Penny is high up in Dharma as she has a direct connection to the Looking Glass, which is Dharma Property.

Hiya Sam.

The string of letters that appear at the bottom are abbreviations for the Hanso Foundation projects and their respective logos: LEP (Life Extension Project), ERI (Electromagnetic Research Initiative), IGA (Institute for Genomic Advancement), WWP DP (Worldwide Wellness and Prevention Development Program), MFI (Mathematical Forecasting Initiative), and EOI (Educational Outreach Imperative). MHA (Mental Health Appeal) is missing. Mittelwerk says about the 'Spider Protocol' in one of the Lost Experience webpages that "The Mental Health Appeal is the centre-piece of all our future plans." In the copyright notice, the Electromagnetic Research Initiative seems to have been replaced by the Educational Outreach Imperative.

Here's an interesting Hanso site about longer life spans: https://www.hansoadoptions.org/article-11.html

on the main adoption page is this:

An invitation to belong
A song that beckons to become
A gleam instilled in empty eye
The calm that quelled a silent cry

*from The Day I Smiled by Author Unknown

is this also the purpose of the island?? to belong, find purpose & heal your problems?

Also, I came across this letter, part of The Lost Experience, which makes me think that Jacob is actually Alvar Hanso. As cool as a Future Locke would be, I just can't figure why he would have a full head of hair? The "phantom" mention here is especially interesting:

Signor Hanso,
It occurs to me, at this point, I am attempting to correspond with a phantom. Had I not personally attended to you three months prior, I, too, would doubt your existence – the worldwide prominence of your name notwithstanding...

You will, no doubt, recall you were admitted after collapsing with a myocardial infection while in Madrid. You were admitted, in a state of mild delirium, by the staff of the hotel in which you were a guest (though the hotel later claimed to have no record of your stay).

At the point which I began treating you, you demanded no blood be drawn. Several hours later, you requested I release you into the care of your personal physician, who had that moment arrived with your staff. Against my strenuous recommendation, you had yourself discharged.

The reason I write is to explain why, against your wishes, I did, in fact, draw your blood. At the time, I believed it prudent to obtain all information. Your disorientation allowed me to obtain the sample and seemed proof of your incapacity.

But now, the results of your blood test have prompted me to embark on this wild goose chase. It is imperative I reach you – your test results are most unusual, and I have reason for concern you may suffer a serious, even fatal, heart attack in the near future.

Futile as it seems, S. Hanso, I feel bound by my oath as a physician to inform you of your circumstance. And, further (please forgive the personal nature of this confession), I feel as though something is amiss. On more than one occasion, gentlemen have made inquiries into your hospital stay. It seems your Madrid episode is among only a handful of times, in recent years, that you have made documented contact with the world at large. And while I anticipate that this letter, too, will be returned unopened, I feel you are owed at least the effort of my attempt.

Hoping this finds you (well),
Eliza Vasquez, M.D.

After having a big confrontation during the third season, Lock and Ben will face off against each other again at this year's Emmy awards. Michael Emerson and Terry O'Quinn have both been nominated for best supporting actor on a drama.

Thanks again, Mr. Entropy.

I see now that it's all written out really tiny below. :duh

I bet Jacob is Alvar. Makes perfect sense, at least at the moment. :lol

I just signed up for the "adoption newsletter". Let's see if I get anything...

And a big congrats to Locke and Creepy Guy. :banana
I kinda hope Emerson gets it, since he's been creeping me out in many shows for years!

Yeah, but no best drama nom. for "Lost" this year. I think that's a shame because it was so freaking good this past year (as opposed to season 2).

Thanks again, Mr. Entropy.

No prob, Sam. I'm with you in hoping Emerson wins the Emmy. He's great at doing the 'creepy' thing but adding so many other things boiling beneath that. Great combination of writing and acting. Locke/Terry O'Quinn was kinda one note for me over the last season. And though the last third of the season was awesome, the first two-thirds were just too up and down in terms of quality which I think the no nom for best drama reflects. They got the thing back on course in the end which bodes well for a rocking season 4. Feb can't come soon enough. I wish they had a mid season episode/movie like BSG. :monkey2 This winter will be fun though DEC: LOST Season 3 DVD, JAN: "Cloverfield", FEB: LOST Season 4

"Lost Key to Longer Life?"

What is the key to longer life?

At Hanso Adoptions, we seek to improve life in every conceivable way.

One of the most sought after aspects of better living, is long life. Long life provides opportunities for continued growth, allows for more shared experiences, and gives people a greater sense of fulfillment.

For many years, our scientists have searched for the "key" to long life. Our recent discoveries are already benefiting countless individuals participating in our off-site research.

Length of life is shaped by genetics, diet, exercise, and environment. But, long life does not hinge solely on these factors.

In some cases, seemingly healthy people pass away without warning. Others who continually abuse their bodies have achieved many years of life and good health.

What other factors increase lifespan?

Anomalies often reveal rare differences in the factors of people's lives. Sometimes the anomaly is a new factor that is not typically inherent.

As Hanso research continues to refine all understanding of these anomalies, more people will experience the benefits of long life.

At Hanso Adoptions, we are working to improve your life. Let us show you your new family. You will not find greater happiness.

Namaste

Major spoiler given earlier today about next season.

"The cat was let out of the bag at the Television Critic Association's event, but Harold Perrineau will definitely be back for Lost's fourth season. Not only will he be back, but he'll be rejoining the cast. No flashbacks. No guest starring turns. Michael is back in action. When exactly he'll be returning, however, is a question Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse wouldn't answer."

Regarding the return of Micheal to the show. At the "Lost" panel at SDCC on Thursday Carlton and Damon said that Micheal would show up pretty early on in the season and he is a regular cast member again.

Hey!

Has anyone been to ABC's site lately?
https://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/index?pn=index

Has anyone watched the new mini "Missing Pieces" episodes yet?
They're pretty cool.

Lost: Missing Pieces are 13 two- to three-minute stories of compelling, new, never-before-seen moments from the hit television show LOST. These newly-created scenes (not deleted scenes from previous episodes) reveal answers and new details about your favorite characters. For each story, we leave it up to the fans to figure out where these pieces fit into the overall mythology. The new stories are from the same creative team responsible for the series and feature the show's main actors in stories that have all the compelling values that make LOST one of the most popular dramas on television around the world.

But... on LOST's front page you have Got To Watch the "Orchid Station Orientation".

There are subliminal frames within and I was able to grab 3:

OrchidCap3.jpg

OrchidCap2.jpg

Go watch it now! It is a little bit of SPOILER!

https://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/index?pn=index

What happened with the other rabbit? I watched it twice and couldn't tell what was gong on. I also saw the upside-down clip of someone riding a bicycle.

As much as I want the new season to start, I'm afraid of what the writers strike is going to do to it.

Thanks for the heads up on the Lost missing pieces. It was great seeing new Lost stuff, even if a bit pointless at the moment.

That Orchid Orientation film was the clip they showed at SDCC.
