Wow, thanks so much for the info, Mr. Entropy!

And, yes, I think that aside from Charlie feeling that he needed to fulfill Desmond's vision to save Claire, the Looking Glass is still available for whatever purpose it has. Space Portal, perhaps??? :toilet_cl

Sawyer in a bikini is scary and funny.
but more scary.
Well, that's not exactly what I meant... but since you and CA Hobbit insist, I'll accept the heinous task of undressing him!

This was the only season finale of 2007 that didn't disappoint.

And thank goodness for that.

So true! Most of the 2007 finales were plain awful. "Lost" has surpassed them all. Though I did like the season finale for "The Office".

Something struck me as odd from the instance Kate uttered those much discussed words "He'll start wondering where I am", though I couldn't figure out what. It dawned on me today that they didn't seem fitting. The idea that Kate would be in a relationship with a guy that was keeping tabs on her and furthermore, that she would be concerned with rushing home to some man so as not to upset him just didn't sit right with me. That's not the Kate we know. And then it occurred to me. We were all assuming that it was some "man" when in fact, she could have easily been talking about a boy.

If Kate is indeed pregnant, as the show loves to keep reminding us is very possible, then in the future (if all goes well on the island of no babies) she would be raising a child. Given this possibility, Kate's words suddenly feel very fitting. And how delicious would it be to consider this possibility. It is Sawyers baby... and... it is Sawyer in the coffin....

And for some wild reason, she put him there! :devil

I think you are right, it doesn't fit Kate as we know her now; which begs the question as to whether or not this HAS to be the future.

Just rewatched it and it had to be Micheal's funeral.

Why?

A few things fit, black neighborhood, Michael is from NY, teenage son, suicide (from guilt?). But other things don't fit, specifically the name. But maybe Michael changed his name to prevent being discovered after he and Walt returned??
If it is Michael, why wouldn't Walt attend the viewing?

Here's a more complete write up presumably from someone on the show:

"The body of John Lantham of New York was found shortly after 4 am in the 4300 block of Grand Avenue.
Ted Worden, a doorman at The Tower Lofts complex, heard loud noises coming from the victim's loft.
Concerned for tenants' safety, he entered the loft and found the body hanging from a beam in the living room.
According to Jaime Ortiz, a police spokesman, the incident was deemed a suicide after medical tests. Lantham is survived by one teenaged son. Memorial services will be held at the Hoffs-Drawlar Funeral Home tomorrow evening."

Also, I got to thinking about Jacob's list of "good" people. Who is on the list? We know some people who are NOT on it : Jack, Locke (too angry), Kate (too flawed), Sayid (too frightened), Rousseau (too weak). I'm going to guess Jin, Bernard, and Sawyer aren't on it either as Ben seemed ready to have them killed.

In other news, did anyone hear about the Lost game available for the ipod? Apparently you collect food/supplies, help the injured and go to places like the Black Rock and the hatch.

John Lantham, hmmm, so either Locke isn't really Locke --- or we haven't met this character yet. That to me seems much more likely, there are still 48 episodes to go.

I think everyone needs to forget about the coffin for now. It's going to be a long time before we ever find out.

We still haven't found out anything about the four toed statue from the second season finale!

It connects to the temple and the island's blood thirsty natives tribes?!

Well, she's a woman. I think they all have that imprinted on their genes somewhere. :emperor :emperor

So if the ship is full of Dharma people trying to recolonize the island, why would they kill everybody? (assuming ben isn't full of crap) Would it be because they know that their people died on the island, or maybe just assume that because they hadn't heard from them in a long time? or are they just evil?

Locke has a teenage son?

The coffin thing is interesting cause they actually gave us some clues to think about over the break. The producers knew we'd screengrab that newspaper clipping and want us to pick it apart, as well as the Jack's dad alive? and the identity of Kate's mystery man/son.

The four toed statue we've got nothing to go on. I'm sure the statue, and perhaps the temple, ties into to the earliest history of the island, stuff hundreds/thousands of years ago we've not been told about yet. The true nature of the island and its history will be one of the last mysteries revealed in the last season me thinks. The coffin stiff will be revealed sometime next season I'm guessing.

John Locke doesn't have a teenage son - so that won't fit. I'm really betting on Michael or some character we haven't met yet. What if it was Michael and Walt killed him using his shinning power to make it look like suicide? :duh

The Dharma peeps will kill everyone to prevent another fight and purge from the hostiles. As Ben said only one side can remain. Widmore wants to exploit the island's power. Kinda like the white men slaughtering the native americans and despoiling the land bc of greed and manifest destiny. The island and the last of it's native inhabitants are dying for some reason, the others want to stop this hence the fertility research.

So if everyone was rescued, did Desmond reunite with Penny? Somehow I doubt it.

So the final resolution seems to be something along the lines of - in leaving the island and returning to their homes, the survivors of Flight 815 lose their humanity?

The purity of the island is corrupted, and the castaways slowly come to the realization that they ought to have stayed there for the bettermeant of all humanity.

Sounds decent to me. I'm not sure if it is as far reaching as bettering all of humanity, or saving the entire world from destruction. It seems to be more of a personal loss.

On the island people are able to confront who they are/were vs who they want to be. In this new special place they can let their past lives go, start new ones and become better people. They lose this when returning to the "real world". Eden is gone. Paradise Lost.

The newspaper Jack gets the obit. from is dated April 5, 2007. They crashed Sept 22, 2004. They call the ship Dec 23, 2004. How come Kate has a nice new car and isn't in jail?

Perhaps coincidence, in the obit notice "Ted", "The Tower", and "beam" are all references to central characters or places in Stephen King's The Dark Tower series of books. Thematically there is some overlap with Lost, sacrifice, magic numbers, identity issues, the interconnectedness of all stories and characters, manipulation of the flow of time, a quest to find a magical place (Dark Tower/the island) said to either be, or be located at, the nexus of all universes. Also, Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof have optioned the Dark Tower series from King for a reported nineteen dollars, which of course, is the infamous number from the Dark Tower series of novels.

Perhaps she re-joined the world with a new identity. Or maybe the courts considered her time on the island as "time already served". I'm more inclined to think she's still a fugitive, but has found some way of living under the radar...?

I keep forgetting that the show does not move in real time and that it's still only 2004 on the island. :monkey1

I'm thinking along those lines as well:

1) kate's still a fugitive because there is no statue of limitations on murder.

2) the people behind them getting rescued, just paid her off to have her live under an assumed identity in order for her not to tell anyone about the island (which I think is possible, all those huge corporations are involved in the island).

3) the people behind them getting rescued paid off the authorities or the government to have her not go to prison.

I don't think the ship is Dharma. Dharma air drops food on the island from time to time.

I think maybe Kate has a handler who will be wondering where she is maybe?
