Better to leave us upset and angry after a character's death then keeping us annoyed and frustrated at a living character. At least that's my thought on it. :D

Well, I am upset that the majority of the cast members are still alive. Most of them piss me off. :emperor :emperor :emperor :emperor

See...that's why it's plain better to kill off a character instead of letting said character annoy the hell out of us. Hence the reason Charlie's death was done at the right time, in the right way (he's character was getting on my last nerve most of season 2 and almost all of season 3).

I have many questions (as we all do) but one glaring one is "Were the Others actually building a runway or was Juliette just having some fun with Sawyer like with the alien bit?"

The fact that such a likable character died needlessly really ticks me off. AND, if we come to find out that he only sacrificed himself so his pals could unknowingly contact MORE BAD GUYS, that makes it even worse.

What the writers were aiming for was Charlie knowingly going into a situation that he would not come out of. He bravely accepted and faced his own death so that Claire might live. They wanted him to go out a hero. It's a really good sad, romantic story - seeing your death and embracing it acknowledging something greater than yourself.

Now was the staging of it perfect? Nope. The scuba equipment, the timing of turning off the jammer & closing the door, the open port hole, they should've done a better job of explaining why Charlie needed to drown, why he couldn't open the door or escape, etc. But Charlie wasn't looking for a loopole such as scuba equipment, the open port hole n such, he believed in his destiny before he went underwater. Gradually, everyone is coming around to the Locke belief in destiny. I don't think he thought he'd survive even when saying "so much for fate". No tears, using the last few minutes to write the message to Desmond and say goodbye was a great end for the character's arc. He'll be missed. His death was meaningful and will be felt throughout the rest of the series, unlike anyone else, Eko, Ana Lucia, Boone, etc.

No way Claire can die now, she has to live on for Charlie and preserve his memory. Since Jack and Kate were rescued, I'm sure Claire will be also. Too bad Charlie didn't know that rescue wasn't all they thought it would be.

No runway. No aliens.

Whatever they're building, I bet it's related to the temple Richard mentioned. Jacob has a plan, but he needs Locke for it to work.

And Ben did a piss poor job of talking Jack out of calling the ship. Sit him down and give him the answers you're afraid to instead of threat of violence and manipulation. A nice history lesson would've worked better than the vague "you're making a mistake" stuff. Lie if you have to, question Naomi more, tell him dharma is coming or something. Ben put too much faith in Jack not letting Sayid, Bernie and Jin die.

Yikes. everyone can be annoying at times, but I don't wish them death because of it. The only ones that had no redemable moments were Nikki, Paulo and Shannon. Though not my favs at all, I got really bummed when I thought Sayid, Bernard and Jin were dead.

Still... I'd keep watching if it was just Kate on the island running around in a bikini for an hour. :monkey5

Manipulation is all Ben seems to know. It's worked well for him in the past so why not in the present? Sure he could have told the truth instead of giving out half truths but then that would go against who he is. It will be interesting to see what happens with Ben in season 4.

I disagree about Shannon. She was finally becoming a redeeming character when she was killed. Her arc was pretty much over once she stopped being the manipulative, mean girl and so she was done in.

Yeah- she and Sayid were so sweet together...

Anybody else wonder if the children and the flight attendant are at the temple where richard was going? I wonder what it looks like. For some reason I imagine some like an aztec zigarot....

Because of the old four-toed statue, I imagine the temple to be REALLY old. Possibly built by the original original island inhabitants (before the black rock folk and all that)

Yeah her arc was getting over being the judgemental, racist she was in the airport. But even then it felt more out of a need for self preservation.

Personally I never enjoyed watching the character. There is no one like that left on the show for me.

I'm so glad Ben is still around. He's my favorite.
RIP Tom aka "Mr. Friendly"

Yeah, I'm picturing something similar.

Didja notice all the long shots and helicopter shots of the group walking through the jungle. I love it when they do that stuff. Must be more costly and time consuming but it really opens the whole world up, makes it seem so much more mythic and cinematic.

Anyone think Sawyer is doomed to die now that he's killed in cold blood? I think the island will judge him for that. Killing Locke's dad was one thing, but shooting Tom was just hardcore. I'm sure he'll be around for awhile though, he's too beloved by the fans.

It seems to follow then that Widmore the man behind The Hanso Group & Dharma is looking for the island, sending the specailly constructed medical ship Helgus Antonius loaded with quarantined areas presumably from Sri Lanka virus tests along the same shipping route the Black Rock went on before it crashed onto the island.

Okay- Now I'm losing my mind a bit!

Please refresh my memory: Where/When did we learn that?

Ah, I was hoping someone would ask at some point. I was so jonesing for Lost info and afraid to read the forumns I went through the Lost Experience on the season 2 dvd, writer podcasts and the various webpages that the producers setup such as the Hanso Foundation. From that I cobbled together stuff like the history of the Black Rock (it disappeared in 1881 strangely headed East from Papua New Guinea instead of West to Africa, captained by Magnus Hanso and it hasn't aged on the island), Rachel Blake Hanso's daughter aka Persephone uncovering a secret test of a virus designed to kill only 30% of people infected in Sri Lanka by Hanso Group president Thomas Mittelwerk who sits on the board of the Widmore Company, and the medical ship Helgus Antonius, built by Sun's father's company Paik Industries, attempting to plot the same course as the Black Rock.

Black Rock -1881
Ameila Earhart - 1937
Danielle Rousseau's ship - 1988
Flight 815 -2004

"Antonius" is the Latin origin of the name Antony, as in Marcus Antonius. Antonius is therefore the name of an important Roman political dynasty. Mark Antony claimed that his family originated with a son of Hercules called Anton, i.e., that they were descendants of an immortal bloodline.

"Helgus" possibly derives from German and Scandanavian words for "holy."
The name "Helgus Antonius" alludes to the notion of a powerful family which views itself, perhaps falsely, as descended from a special ("holy" or even immortal) ancestry. The name possibly refers to the notion that the Widmore family (or possibly the Hanso family) constitute a powerful dynasty, descended from a "great" man as alluded to by Charles Widmore during his interview with Desmond.

Boggles the mind...

but amazingly informative. THANKS!

They should have made the metal door shut automatically when he entered the code or something,

They (the writers) needed for Desmond to see that Penny was on the monitor. Also Charlie saw that Desmond had seen Penny and he knew that the only way to keep Desmond from coming in and trying to speak with her was to close the door from the inside.

Very true. But what would've happened had Charlie not closed the door? Window explodes, water rushes in flooding the Looking Glass, Charlie and Desmond swim up to the surface. :huh Did Charlie need to perserve the rest of the Looking Glass station for some reason? Will they use the location again?
