By that same token you can stretch any story indefinitely as well without adding anything to it.

I might be wrong, but I suspect if you went back in thris thread to whatever season that was that was really slow you'll find alot of people disliked the pace of that season.

And its not like this show really requires alot of thought either since you may not actually find out if you are right or not. And heck alot of the things that are big questions from the first few seasons happened so long ago I've forgotten about them.

DVDs are your friend. :D Also, they've been replaying the seasons in order on G4 with at least 1 episode a day.

It's like flipping back while reading a novel, "I don't remember that" or "oooh, I see now how they were setting up this payoff waaay back at the start of the story". In fact the pacing and structure of Lost are like a well written mystery novel. In re-watching it, I discovered new and interesting bits that setup future revelations.

And very, very few eps of this show have had empty, go nowhere story lines. Only the Nikki/Paulo stuff comes to mind. That's one of the things I love about this show, each ep adds depth of characterization and advances the overall plot of the story. Even the slow start of season 3 with Ben's illness and surgery I bet will have a payoff once the mystery is solved. We'll see how the whole thing comes together, or doesn't, in 2 years.

I really don't have time to go back and rewatch all those episodes of Lost. Especially not when the big denoument won't be for another two years since by then I'll have forgotten most of the stuff by then.

No!!

But if Netflix streams they, they do it in HD. And I love HD!!!!

Oh, that sucks! :monkey4
Yeah, I read that the Netflix streams in HD on the 360 now, that's pretty tight!

Well if you want to sit in front of your computer for a couple weeks straight you can at least watch all 4 seasons on abc.com in HD. :D:lol

They could condense the whole series to 12 episodes....and it would all be meaningless.
Other than a stretch in Season 2 I've never been bothered by the pace. In fact, I actually kind of regret the non-stop short seasons because there is precious little character stuff. I'm not complaining, because the plot demands it, but LOST is just as much about the characters as the island. If you're watching it just for answers, you're watching the wrong show.
There are enough TV shows, like Heroes, that not only ask but REQUIRE that you turn your brain off. The makers of LOST are aiming for great television and more often than not achieving it.

Are you serious?

The character plots aren't that deep or complex, that's typical TV drama stuff. It's told out of order . . . is THAT the big brain-challenging aspect?

The "bigger" plot is the only thing that might be somewhat challenging to follow, but only if they didn't stretch 1 episode's worth of "bigger" plot information to be revealed over the span of 5 episodes at a time.

I guess it just goes to what kind of show you want. Personally I'm not all that interested in SO much backstory for every character, especially when characters get killed off before they're fully exploited anyway. Who cares about Shannon and Boon when a) they weren't that interesting to begin with, and b) they're dead now, so what did it matter to know about their history anyway? What, are they going to be brought back somehow in some preposterous plotline?

And the flashbacks/flashforwards are always really formulaic, and usually don't add much to the plot on the island their flashing from. Really the only thing that makes this show unique is the mysterious island stuff, and when the info revealed over 4 seasons can be summed up in a few paragraphs, I can't possibly see how that's challenging your brain, other than your patience.

And as someone who prefers Branagh's unabridged Hamlet to Mel Gibson's, you can't accuse me of short attention span.

Look, it's a pretty entertaining show, and obviously I don't hate it or I wouldn't have seen every episode, but The Wire this ain't. ;)

I've enjoyed every single minute of every LOST episode! I've been a HUGE fan since it started. Heck, even my daughter when she was about 4 years old knew to say "LOST" when it came on, and watched it with us. It's one of the best shows ever created for television. Incredible story, sharp and smart writing, riveting performances by the cast. I will really miss this show when it's over.

I'm looking forward to the big 4-hour premiere in January! :D

I have seasons 1 and 2 on DVD, and plan on getting 3 and 4 soon.

I like the back stories, even when they don't add to the goings on of the island it gives the characters more personality, explains their motivations. It's neat to see how where they are going is effected (affected?) by where they have been. Plus it is possible that the flashbacks are more than just backstory and do have something to do with the island.

I'm not saying I HATE the backstories, I just think it's overused and a convenient device to stretch out the series.

The flashes happen in EVERY episode, so they're telling TWO episodes at once instead of ONE episode *just* about the main story.

Plus it is possible that the flashbacks are more than just backstory and do have something to do with the island.

But what if when it's all said and done it doesn't, or the connection is unsatisfactory?

In that case, the time spent on character backstory is not only a little boring, but a waste of time.

I like the Backstories to they give the Survivors on the Island more Character
