I'm sorry but I don't think the Dio line got off to a bad start. Maybe not the most exciting piece for some but I think that was due somewhat to "book" issues. I trust Dusty and SS to make sure LOTR is represented well enough.

Your trust will be paid off... in spades :monkey3 LOTR will rock at SDCC :rock

(Disclaimer: maybe I should say *planning* to rock because, well, as I've explained in posts past, you just never know until the actual day! SO many factors... but I *can* say that there are a couple of cool things up our sleeve, and the line is far from dead...)

Dusty,

I gotta believe, like many others, that there is just more DEPTH to the LOTR line than the Star Wars line. I am not knocking the Star Wars product, but the LOTR line just has more to offer in my opinion. Not to mention that making each figure is very trying to say the least. There is virtually NO similar parts to the first 4 LOTR figures while ALL the jedi has very similar outfits. Each of the many accessories for the LOTR figures are vastly different.

I, for one, am in this for the long haul with Sideshow...I would rather have 2-3 12-Inchers and a couple PFs each year that are HIGH quality like the ones we have than 5-6 more cheaply made figures. I count on Sideshow to bring us the entire fellowship plus a bunch more...I figure that they will have at least 20 LOTR 12-Inch figures before they even consider calling it quits.

Fellowship = 9 figures
Elrond
Galadriel
Arwen
Ringwraith
Witchking
Denethor
Knight of Gondor
Lothlorien Elf (Haldir)
Uruk-hai Warriors (Ugluk, Grishnakh)
Orc Warriors (Gothmog, Gorbag)

I would expect that they will stick with NAMED characters for movie tie-in rather than just have nameless army builders...but who knows. Based on the listing above, that is 21 figures...pretty good in just a few seconds of thinking of potential characters. They HAVE to make some baddies....

Geb

P.S. Thanks a ton DUSTY for reminding us to hang in there! I hope we see at least 2 new PFs and 2 new 12-inchers at SDCC as well as a couple new pre-orders. I like the Dioramas and Legendary Busts, but the 12-Inchers and PFs are my fav!

ehem... we get a bust.. but no 12"/PF!!! That's 4 for SDCC (GTW PF, GTG bust, 2 dio's)...

yeah.. I'll be disapointed!!!:monkey4

"As you know, the San Diego Comic-Con will soon be here and most of our collectors realize that they can expect some exciting new LOTR announcements for the big show! Is this when we will finally be able to show you a glimpse of the Gandalf the White Premium Format figure? Or maybe a 12-inch figure or polystone diorama? As usual, we can't yet reveal what we've got up our sleeves, but rest assured that you can expect to see some new additions to our Lord of the Rings line-up this year. Stay tuned to our Comic-Con section, from July 25th - 29th, to be the first to see the new products!"

"a 12" figure" ... "A"... SOB!!!!

have no choice but to be pateint... I'll still complain though. ;)

but I stand by my other post... we'll see a lot of LOTR stuff...

#1 GTW PF
#2 frodo/golumn dio
#3 Helms deep dio
#4 cave troll bust
#5 GTG bust
#6 new dio
#7 one 12"

that is a good chunk of LOTR.... so they are not lying... But I'm almost 95% sure it won't be AS GRAND as it sounds! (nothing that surprising)

I hope I'm wrong!!!!!

And the 12" will be?

If they've sorted out the short bodies we could see a Gimli or maybe a couple of the hobbits--- but I think we're more likely to see a Gandalf the Grey

I hope we a Gandalf, preferrably the grey. If they REALLY wanted to rock SDCC they'd show off Saruman and Gandalf the Grey, and make that black obelisk thing as an "environment". That'd keep me in the LOTR!!!:gandalf

I wonder if Gandalf will have the same price point as the others, since his costume is much more simple.

Well, let's not assume it was much more simple. There are a lot of little details in the cloak and his outfit that have to be looked at in stills to notice.

Plus parts of it are way complicated like his hat, and all the accessories--staffs, sword & scabbard, pipe, cloak, extra hands, hopefully a firework, his bag--there can be quite a few things to add.

You bet it could. I wonder how they'll do the staves and cloak though. He had a different cloak and staff before his capture at Orthanc than he did when he set out from Rivendell. Maybe the regular will have one set, and the exclusive will have both. But then, Sideshow hasn't been very generous with the cloaks on these figures. They'll likely only give one cloak and one staff, and the firework will be the exclusive. In the which case we'll need Merry and Pippen eventually--not immediately, but eventually.

He had a different staff pre-Rivendale and post Rivendale? I had no idea. Can someone post pics of the different ones?
