No kidding; unless they did the rubber body suit, which wouldn't last long into the future. Orc will be a huge challange unless they do a totally sculpted body, which I doubt.

To be honest, I can't picture me buying orcs they way the SS bodies are now. I just don't think they would look good (tho without a doubt the head sculpt and accessories would look awesome)... I dunno... For some reason I just never considered orcs...

I wouldn't mind seeing some orcs but I think Hot Toys' rubber body suit would be best for that. If any company I think they would be up to the challenge.

But for now? You got it...:gandalf

To be honest, I am hoping sideshow passes the orcs over to medicom. If anyone, it's medicom that can do the best "irregular" bodies.

I sincerely hope this isn't the case. I wouldn't be ready to pay >$100.00 for a 12" orc figure. This is Sideshow's best 12" figure line and I wouldn't want anyone else messing around with it. Keep it in-house, SS. :monkey3

Ah, a 12'' Lurtz. If SS can make him look half as good as the PF then that would be an awesome addition to the LOTR 1:6 line.

Oh man yeah, imagine him posed next to Boromir, or dualing with Aragorn! After we get a few more characters I'd love for them to tackle some kind of creature.

Unlike the Star Wars 12'' this is such an unexplored line. I do hope they stay with the more prominent characters for a while and then branch off into some secondary stuff much, much later.

True that. The wizards, the hobbits, Gimli, the Rohirrim, the Elves--there's a lot to cover in the core character category, and that's not even touching creatures, environments, etc. The potential for this line is gigantic.

Sideshow has made great LOTR figure choices so far. I really hope they turn their attention to this line after the C4 hubbub dies down.

Amen to that! I imagine Sideshow is being really careful with this line; any drop in the quality and the line could potentially suffer, but if the next few are of the same quality and a little more frequent, this could be one of their finest lines ever.

I honestly think it already is. The only figure to receive any significant amount of criticism was Aragorn and that was due to everyone comparing the production piece to the prototype, which was expertly painted, as opposed to receiving a factory paintjob. The proto-piece that was seen at SDCC and Toy Fair prior to release only raised everyone's expectations to stratospheric levels. The production piece could never reach that level, hence the dissappointments with many. BUT once in hand, Aragorn proved to be a very good figure and amazingly enough, each subsequent release has only raised the bar.

i think there is something fundamentally wrong with a company that sells an item based on a prototype painted by a professional, and then releases it painted by some drunk chinese factory workers after celebrating the new year. collectors are very educated in the production process and these items aren't going to grade school children. it seems since recently joining here, the occurrence of dissatisfaction in the final product is becoming more frequent. is it a case of releasing too many products to keep up, or is it they just don't give a crap anymore? a disclaimer may cover them legally, but doesn't wash out the bad taste left in the collector's mouth.

You lost me right there... :nono

Actually, I think it's been the opposite. Aragorn received a fair amount of complaints, Legolas far less, Boromir even less. The gap between prototype paintjob and in hand product is narrowing - Legolas and Boromir are both good and very close to the box image.

I see you joined last month and weren't around for this:

There will always be the occasional product that falls far short of the prototype image (see the Gentle Giants clone armor Obi Wan) and fans will always pick apart products because we're so passionate about this stuff, but I think SSC is also passionate about what they do and their products have been getting better and better, especially this LOTR line.

Just read the other half.... Bad taste? Are you talking about LOTR or commenting on what a very vocal minority here comment on about Sidehshow in general?
