Thing is, with a mix of parts, some customising/modding/futzing, you could have yourself a brilliant Pilot Luke.
But the time and money and effort is just too great in this case. For me anyway.

Yeah I think you could remedy this figure mostly by just replacing the head sculpt with a Hot Toys sculpt. The problem is I'm not going to pay $240 plus shipping to get this figure and however much more for a parted out Hot Toys sculpt.

I thought the whole point of paying $240 for a no-frills figure was that it gave us a great headsculpt that didn't need replacing.

Not paying $100 for a replacement HT sculpt. Plus another $20 for a new body.

Total cost for a good Pilot Luke = $360

This is my thinking too. Its the reason I still have my pre-order. I just wonder if I'm better off spendng my $240 on bits once he is parted out? I do have a feeling that the parts from this one are going to be very expensive, not sure that is the way to go either.

Even with the inevitable 30% off this guy is $190 shipped. Still salty for a kit figure with not much in the kit.

Yup. A $240.00 kit before shipping that needs a body and head swap is unacceptable.

So essentially paying $240.00 plus for an outfit and a helmet.

I guess you could sell the body and head and still make enough to buy a HT head but you'd still have to pay for a body.

If you could only even swap parts with other members it might be worth it. You could swap heads with Pixelpiper since he is planning to get rid of his HT Tatooine Luke head.

Prototype of this thing looked better than HT's prototype of Tatooine Luke. For the price they were charging I was hoping the production version would surprise everyone. Oh well....

Since HT is reusing the head sculpt of farm boy Luke on ST disguise...what are the odds they won't make X wing? After all, the hair piece is removable....

It seems we should now count ourselves fortunate to get a stand. Sideshow is really spoiling us.

That's what a LALA paint-up will do. Seriously LALA could paint a marble and make it look like a human head.

If the head turns out to be as bad as early pics indicate, TA will know they won't be able to get much more than $45 for it. That leaves up to $200 to be recouped and the body (yeah supposed to be new, but who really knows now) is worth $15. I would guess the helmet would have to be $60+ (it's the only super-desirable part of the set,) jumpsuit will be fully broken down (with Bossk, it was all sold in one) into bits (bib, jumpsuit, chestbox) - all up $70. Gloved hands and boots are worth something, but nothing huge. Hard for them to make a profit on this one without gouging.

TA is acutely aware of what is desirable and what is not, and adjusts prices accordingly - I just got a HT Han holster for my extra (brown coat:monkey4) custom Han Hoth that was $15, but when they restocked it was over $25, same with the Luke Hoth holster/belt - went from $22 up to $35.

+time, +effort +feeling like a fool for doing it.

Only solution is - Buy HT Luke in Stormtrooper disguise, use that head on Pilot Luke when you want it to be posed without the helmet on lol

Here's the thing; I have both Hot Toys Lukes on pre-order; and if you go way back in one of these threads I cited them as "insurance".

So technically I'll have the parts.

But it's still a bloody expensive kit with a poor head sculpt and likely poor body.

It vexes me so.

Truthfully I'm getting the Trooper Luke and Tatooine Luke and most likely will be using the Trooper figure as a spare Storm Trooper most of the time. I have pondered buying this eventually and replacing the sculpt with the Hot Toys Trooper sculpt but no chance will I pay $240 plus for it. If it drops in price or I can get it used for cheap I'll consider it. Honestly though it's probably better to just wait for Hot Toys to do their own.
