This just isn't close to being on the same level as other $200+ figures. And the gloved hands look like they belong to a 1/4 scale figure.

It's not terrible, but should really be a $150 figure, max.

Honestly, the ONLY way Sideshow can compete with Hot Toys is to sell their figures at a lower price. They cannot surpass HT quality, so there you go.

If Sideshow creates a line of $100 - $150 SW 1/6 scale figures at this level of quality, they will have great success. Do fan-favorite, classic characters (Moff Tarkin, Dengar, Akbar, etc.) with minimal accessories. I'm sure a $120 Grand Moff Tarkin would be a big hit for them.
That's great, in theory.

In practical application though, if this is what a $240 figure looks like, what do you think a $100-$150 is gonna look like.

If Sideshow is having to spend $$$ more to produce these figures at their current level, whats gonna happen when they chop $100 per figure out of production/profit. Do you really think they are gonna make the same level of figure for $100 less and cut their/Disneys profits almost in half. Nah.

You don't stay in the market with sub par work at a lower price. Who would want to have that reputation as a collector, or supplier, of mediocre Star Wars dollies? They need to compete rather than give up on quality and become the low end. That would be a bad decision.

This figure looks pretty cool to me. The headsculpt isn't overly impressive but I would display him with his helmet on if I owned him. If I see a good deal for this fig I may bite but it's not worth the rrp to me judging from the pictures I've seen so far

Added a Hot Toys Bespin belt. Still need to futz......

Not too thrilled with the head sculpt at all.

Thanks for posting! Hmm... decisions. Head's not great but the outfit looks pretty amazing there.

The head does look fine in the helmet, but jeez if this had come with a helmet, helmeted and non-helmeted head it would have been a great value set (well, had the head come out a couple of notches better.) The Hoth Luke is still the best value set Sideshow has ever done - three heads (not HT quality, but decent.)

You're welcome.

Well, to be fair, Evilface said it first and more succinctly...

Dave, we are in the age of broadband. Pics can be much much bigger now.

In all seriousness Dave, were you simply unable to post larger pics? You were the very first on here to get the figure in-hand and your pics were small. We're wanting to see the fig and small pics set up frustration.

Over a year in the making, their umpteenth attempt at a Luke sculpt and this is what they offer. Saving grace being helmeted version is passable sooooo await for discounts before considering picking it up.

Wish the chestbox was a little bigger and less square. Thought it might just have been that early set of pics, but looks the same on this set.

Other than that, the outfit looks stellar - but Sideshow's outfits, accessories and weapons have always been incredibly well done.

I love reading people with no business sense giving business advice! We need more of these kinds of comments directed toward Apple too - those guys obviously don't know how to price products either. :rotfl

Because it's not as if Sideshow is responsible for selling the majority of Hot Toys figures globally that they might have some data/insight. When you're grasping at straws, reach for the pricing argument, it's classic.

I would be enlightening if you could be more specific.

"Sideshow should price this at $150" etc... Classic stuff. None of your posts fell into the danger zone, no worries. ;)

I had just finished reading this piece: Daring Fireball: What Goes Up And thought the comments in here were reminiscent of the classic arguments of Apple haters and click-bait artists.

I don't know what specific comments about the price these are directed at but it's not like the consumer doesn't have a "say" on the price of something. I'm not saying the I know that the SS Red five is overpriced from a business point of view, but that will depend on people buying it at that price or not. We will have to just see. It wouldn't be a the first time, despite well thought out market research, that something doesn't sell for the price initially given.

It may in the end prove false over all to say that this SS figure is overpriced because it doesn't match the quality of similar products for the same price if people buy these up anyway. But, you can't act as if this isn't a valid opinion by a consumer or that it is impossible that such an opinion would be wide spread enough to keep a significant people from buying the figure at the price given. Again, we will see how it plays out as a whole, but still there is nothing wrong with a consumer saying that something is over priced, at least for them, as they try to discern somethings value compared to similar products.

I'll have to see the head sculpt in hand to be sure, but I'm not overly impressed with it in the photos provided.

But I love how the figure looks with the helmet on. That will be the way I will initially display it.

The base/stand looks nice in Dave's photo. I also have a spare HT Luke base available, just in case I wish to make the Star Wars figures display more uniform.
