Do I get this or the HT Sandtrooper for my birthday? I know the gripes about the likeness on this one and I can see what some are saying, but X-Wing Luke was a childhood favorite.

Tough call. This one and HT Sandtrooper are in my top three for Star Wars 1/6.

If you only want him with the helmet on, he's as good as the sandie and I'd say pick your favourite; if you want him helmet off, the sandie's an objectively stronger release.

You'd have to be a brave man to give advice on this issue. Whatever you do is going to leave you wondering if you made the right choice. But given how fast HT figures have been selling out you probably have more time to get the X-wing Luke if you can't get both now.

Jedijim, those photos were wonderful. Is there much of a height difference between farm boy luke and Bespin Luke?

Gotta go with what you want more or feel you would regret if you didn't get but the fact that the Luke is more than the Sandtrooper makes me want to wait for a bargain on the Luke one, which I am waiting on, just to spite SS for that price.

If I had to bet on it, I'd say sandie sells out first. This said not knowing what the production run on either release is.

But given Hot Toys M.O. -- you should get a crack at two more sandtroopers (black and white pauldrons) in the future, as it's an easy variant they're not likely to ignore.

See, I wouldn't want those. The orange one is special to me because it's such an unusual colour, it 'pops' as they say.

I'm leaning towards the Sandtrooper, and being that the Ex of this Luke is still available says a lot about the price SS tagged it with.

Thank you. Yes. About an 1/8 to 1/4 inch difference if I can remember correctly. I actually switched the lower legs on my BESPIN Luke to KO slim legs to make him shorter and the regular foot pegs fit in the boots with a slight mod but can still be switched back to the stock pegs and legs if necessary.

Now all my Lukes are the same height.

Thanks Jim. What kind of mod? Just warm them up a bit?

You can do that but I took one of my 1/4 inch drill bits and shaved off some plastic from the top of the opening. Made it a bit wider to accommodate the standard pegs. It was a risk but well worth it. And the stock pegs fit back in just fine.

Here's my custom SNOWSPEEDER LUKE using some parts from the SS figure.
This is my all time fav look for Luke.

I updated my figure with some ss parts (Helmet and head, chest box and white vest).
I added weathering to the helmet and som touch of snow weathering on the pants and boots.

Awe-some stuff! Love it. :rock

Aside from being the ANH X-wing helmet though but I guess it's all we have at this point.

Amazing stuff, Elvis. Could you do a run down on the parts you used?

Yes sure.

SS Red five Luke (Helmet, head, white vest and chest box)
The jacket is made using the ss Yavin Jacket retailored and dye in orange, for the puffy collar I used the one from the SS Hoth vest dye in orange.
At the time I didn't had the jumpsuit so I sewn together the HT Bespin jacket and pants and dye them both in orange.
SS Hoth boots and custom harness, HT Bespin belt.

He is on a HT slim body.
