I'm really digging the photos of this figure with the Hot Toys Luke head. For those who own it, what's the quality like on this figure? How does it compare to Hot Toys? Do you think Hot Toys will release their version of this figure? Or should I go ahead and get this one?

If SS's paint apps were HT quality methinks people would prefer the SS sculpt.

It's a decent sculpt but I don't have the talent or money to repaint all my sculpts. HT wins!

I would like to get this figure, but with all the extra mods like buying a HT head and belt etc, it would cost too much for what it is. Come on HT release a Hoth Pilot luke already!

Finally decided what to use my SS Reward points on.
Very happy with this figure and actually think it's a closer likeness to Hamill in ANH than the Hot Toys Luke Skywalker figures.

Only let downs for me are the paint on the eyes and the rock hard boots. (plus part of the helmet was broken on mine but hopefully SS will be replacing that for me).

While I do like the likeness on this sculpt more than the HT one, the lack of detail and the paint gives him a dopey or dead look with the helmet off. It's sad - it's so hard to capture a likeness. It's the same issue with the Hoth heads.

It's amazing how the paint apps have dogged SSC heads for so many years, and it hasn't changed even deep into this era of ultra-realistic apps from HT that has been going for eight years or so. Had SSC nailed the apps years ago, they'd be producing heads superior to HT (whose SW releases have had mediocre likeness.)

It simply means wetting the clothes with water by using a spray bottle or stripping a figure and dunking them then manipulating the damp fabric so it looks less stiff and more natural.

My visor has a nasty scuff as well. And the magnet on the end of the chin strap fell off. I've asked for a replacement.

Those bubbles in the visor are more than likely caused through the addition of too much catalyst (chemical additive) at the point of mixing the plastic - it sets excessively fast and generates too much heat in the process - trapping the air content before it can escape. Even in a vacuum chamber - the bubbles would not escape - making a bad batch of plastic is poor QC. It does happen though to the best sometimes. Hopefully you have received a perfect replacement with no questions asked, after seeing your photograph.

Just bought this for £167 shipped using the 20% off eBay code (now expired) that I posted a thread about earlier. I wouldn't have touched this for £215 (which seems to be the standard UK price) but that was enough of a discount to push me into getting it.

Now to look through this thread to see what mods people have done...
