Thome doesn't play because he's not as good as Mauer or Morneau, not because he cant play 1st.

Its just not a disadvantage to have to play only 8 of your best 9 hitters when the other team has to play only 8 of their best 8 hitters.

1. Morneau and Mauer were on the DL for half the season and they still couldn't play Thome. He can't play first anymore. That's why they moved Cuddyer in from right field. I know, I'm a Twins fan who lives in the Twin Cities. Gardenhire couldn't put Thome in that position for physical reasons.

2. It is when one of those so called 9 players is a good hitter and plays only DH. It is if that DH is replaced by a pitcher who is not used to hitting like the NL pitchers are :slap

I have no idea if I can find the stats, but I'll bet NL pitchers average like .120 and AL pitchers average .110. Its miniscule difference.

On the other hand, in the NL park the 1st PH off the bench for the AL team probably had 3 times as many ABs over the season than the NL one, so advantage AL there too.

That PH off the bench who has 3 times as many ABs over the season doesn't nearly make up for having to remove an AL player who is a potential .290 hitter with 20 HRs and 90 RBI out of the lineup.

I'm sure we're boring people. The AL and NL play two different games. I enjoy watching the AL because I don't want to see pitchers hit.

But the NL team never had the 9th batter in their lineup to begin with, so you can't feel bad for the AL team having to drop him!!

There's no rule where the AL team has to drop their best hitter. They almost always drop their WORST, minus catcher.

Its up to the team if they want to get some DH that is so bad at fielding he can't even play 4 games in the field. Its rare to find an Edgar Martinez or something who never plays the field. Usually they are servicable.

But anyway...same argument every year. :lol

NL baseball is by far the more interesting product. Especially when a team is managed by somebody like *throws up a little* LaRussa.

:lol I agree. Despite the fact that he's a DUI waiting to happen and looked the other way regarding the steroid era, he is a very interesting game caller and innovator of the game.

Nice game last nice.

Baseball is so much better when pitching and defense actually matter. No way would I want to go back to the 90s or early 2000s type games.

not the start i was hoping for last night, but i think TLR out managed ron in game 1...ron was thinking too much and it cost him.

as far as the DH is concerned, it doesn't effect the rangers nearly as bad as it did last year when we had vlad. we tried putting him in right and that didn't go so well...ended up having to take him out of the lineup all together. this years team is more built for NL play in that regard
