Larussa made 2 :slap mistakes and it cost them. Why would you want to distract your best hitter by sending the runner anyways?

that argument would be good if it were anyone but Pujols in the batter box. It's a distraction, and it caused him to fish outside the strike zone the second time and it's usually not a good idea to use the runner if he's a slow poke.

1. So just because it's Pujols it becomes a distraction? You don't think he's been in that position countless times before? I would trust that my player, the best hitter in baseball doesn't get distracted easily.

2. Most players, even the best ones go fishing on a 3-2 count knowing a 100 mph fastball is coming from Neftali Feliz.

I wonder if TLR frequently drunk dials old girl friends and forgets which one he dialed midway through conversation.

Man, is he getting lots of heat. This is all they've been talking about on Espn, local sports stations and Twitter.

and you can probably bet it's on purpose knowing him. he's literally taking one for the team on this one. :lol

btw, thanks for the pics, mikedanger! :hi5:

heading down to busch again tomorrow. just hoping this thing can get to 7. i was there in 2004 to see boston win their first in 80+yrs, and to see texas get their first wouldn't be soooo horrible as a baseball fan...

as long as i could sell my stub for another $100 like in '04 that is. :lol

Just a baseball fan in general? Or do you have a rooting interest in one of these teams?

cards fan first, baseball fan second. :)

as i've gotten older, i've learned to appreciate the game for what it is, rather than hoping my team wins it all every year. living in chicago i see plenty of people in their 60s, 70s and 80s that may never see a championship.

every baseball fan should get to experience the feeling of winning it all in their lifetime.

you're a twins guy, right? did you collect any of the wheaties boxes from 1987?

You living in Chicago must know lots of Cubs fans and their drought. Lots of passion in that city. I guess some are hoping the Cubs can steal Pujols now that Theo is the GM.

Yep, as a Twins fan I lived through 2 glorious titles in 87 and 91. Yes, I still have the Wheaties box and the front page of the Star Tribune newspaper. Great memories man!

Yeah, my friends joke with me all the time about stealing Pujols. It wouldn't bother me, though, especially if he brought them a title. I always thought him, TLR and Molina would bolt for Chicago, but who knows. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see all three of them retire as Cardinals, but man do I want the Cubs to win one for my friends and family.

That '87 team was unreal! Puckett, Hrbek, Gaetti, Blyleven, Viola, Niekro...then Reardon! They were soooo dangerous on turf, too!

Very cool you kept them!!! I kept those Wheaties boxes up until last year. Had to make room for the little guy and tossed out almost 3/4 of the collection (including the '91 box). :(
Always loved looking at the Twins boxes, though. Just some amazing teams and stars they had.

:monkey2 You made the monkey cry.

The '87 team will go down as the best sports moment in our state. It was our first championship of any kind in all 4 major sports. We've suffered through 4 Super Bowl losses with the Vikings.

We just had our 20 year reunion for our '91 team this past summer. Really sad that Kirby Puckett was missing. :(

Bring them some luck. :lol As I told a buddy of mine if Texas wins I'm not gonna be upset. Disappointed sure but I won't be upset. The Rangers are a good organization who I think does play baseball the right way. Plus I love Nolan Ryan he was one of my faves as a kid so to see his team win one along with Hamilton and Young would be cool. As a Cards fan with the season that we had in some ways I'm just pleased we didn't fall apart in May. :lol
