No doubt about it Youk was an _______, but he was our _______ and he's going to be missed. I don't see how this deal itself makes the Red Sox better now, our backup IF is frigging Nick Punto. I see it as a way to ease things for Valentine working in Will Middlebrooks as the everyday 3B and hopefully never see Adrian Gonzalez in the OF again.

Hard to believe Ortiz is the last guy standing from the '04 team now.

Ugh, Nick Punto. People in these parts still shake their heads when that name is uttered. :ohbfrank:

Youkilis had to go though. He worn out his welcome in Boston (in the same regard as Nomar back in 04). Hard to beleive that all we got out of the deal was Lillibridge and Stewart for Youk. ChiSox got the better end of the deal...but I'm not convinced Youk is better off as a 3rd baseman. I think as a long term solution for any team, he is much better off as a 1st baseman.

At least we got something for him though. No way was he coming back next year and the emergence of Middlebrooks didn't make this trade easy. I don't think people outside of Boston realize how this deal needed to be made ASAP. Hopefully, Youk's attitude problem doesn't raise it's ugly head and a change of scenary does him some good.

I don't know that he got to Nomar levels of pouting, but I'd agree that the writing was on the wall that he needed to go based on Middlebrooks. His lack of a relationship with Valentine probably had a bit to do with it too. The guy working at ESPN probably could have made the transition a bit easier.

I also agree that his place is at 1B, not 3B. He set the record for games without an error at 1st (238) not that long ago. Putting a 33-year-old guy at the hot corner at this point of his career probably wasn't the best decision.

Lillibridge can play the IF and OF...I think both teams won in that trade. Red Sox wanted to dump KY and they got a guy that can play both OF and IF in the process.

:lecture Only time will tell.

At any rate, Youks will be missed at Boston. I seriously thought he would retire there... but that's how the game is played. Nothing new, but it stings a little for the fans.

Last night was amazing. I was actually ready to leave in the eighth inning when Yadi made me happy as all hell.

Go Cards.

I'll be there tomorrow night, too. Josh Johnson Bobblehead night. Going up on Ebay, immediately after.

You were there?!!? :hi5::yess:

Any respect I had left for Guillen went out the window last night. A complete dbag move, and I'm glad the Cards pulled that one out.

I'm also shocked that Davidson is still an MLB umpire. Just amazing. I mean, I feel sorry for the guy 'cause you know he loves his job, but man does he screw up a lot.

Why, what happened? They didn't show anything on the highlights.

In a nutshell... :lol

Matheny went to make a double switch in the 9th. He showed Davidson (Home Plate Umpire) the changes, but apparently Davidson got it wrong on his card, who then gave the wrong changes to Guillen.

Guillen called Matheny on it in the 10th (a full inning after the fact...why didn't he say something in the 9th?!? because they were kicking the Cardinals booties). He and Cora were then chucking it up in the dugout, hoping against hope they could turn the tide of the game.
The umpires made Matheny reverse the change, pull Craig off at first base and put a scrub there.

Here's where it backfired, though. When Craig's spot came up in the 10th, Matheny put in Joe Kelly (uber-rookie pitcher) to PH....who then proceeded to get the RBI that was the difference in the game. :lol

^^ Ahh, thanks for the info gibby. :wave
