Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Why make him black when we can have Donald as miles? Play with the formula like you did with Bucky. I mean he'll you got scarlet spidey and spider woman running around so have miles be around making appearances to.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

But do they read superhero comics? Are they not complaining because culturally it just isn't something that appeals to them?

What difference does that make? They/we still watch movies and TV....does that not appeal to us either? Most people regardless of their race or ethnicity don't read comics and their knowledge of Superhero comes from Movies, not comics. Also, of all the minorities in the US, African Americans have the loudest voice and the most support from the media, because they always seem to make a big deal about everything and it always goes back to racism or something like that. Then again, I can't blame them considering there's a history of extreme racism in the US.

Anyway, I don't like diversity for the sake of it, and I don't like when they change a character's race either. I like consistency, and IF they want diversity, then create new characters, and make sure not just one group is represented, that's all I'm saying. Still, I could care less about diversity...I'm still trying to get used to black Nick Fury, but that's has more to do with the actor playing him, not his color :lol

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Because if they don't care then they don't care and changing white superheroes into Hispanics wouldn't serve any purpose. Just like you don't see people making Yakuza movies about white Yakuzas. They just aren't that big a deal over here.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

You guys are so funny... you actually think they would go with Miles instead of Peter. :lol Not in a million years.

Nope it's pretty much been confirmed Peter Parker is going to show up in Civil War, but I think it would be wise to eventually bring Miles into the cinematic universe.

Why this Donald guy though? He's mainly known for his rap music, how about we stop casting all these musicians and get a black unknown trained actor for the role, like WB did with Cyborg.

And yes I know Donald Glover has been a few movies and shows.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

How is 3 Peter Parkers in a decade a lot? Besides, Parker IS Spiderman. We've seen Bruce Wayne as Batman for 75 years :lol

People react poorly to reboots of recent properties. Look how long it took people to get over Spider-Man being rebooted with the first time. Doing Miles instead of Peter removes that idea of doing the same character again for the third time.

We've already had five movies of two Peter Parkers, personally i'd like one of the other Spider-Men to be adapted be it Miles, Miguel or Ben Reilly as it'd be fresh and different.

I'd kill for a Spider-Man 2099 movie. While it wasn't likely at Sony it was a slim possibility. Now that he's locked to the MCU theres no chance as it has to fit and be the same era.

If they don't care, it has nothing to do with them not reading comics though. Also, I don't think Hispanics want established characters to be changed. When I talk about diversity, I talk about new characters, not changing the look of an established character, which is irrelevant anyway when it comes to Hispanics since Hispanics is not a race to begin with.

Also, I don't know that black people want white characters to be played by black actors either...maybe they don't mind. Then again, those changes are always made by the people in charge, and they're white, so I'm not sure what their goal is? I guess Hollywood's idea of diversity means changing established characters...as long as the character is white. You'll never see a white Black Panther :lol

Thats the paradox of it really as new heroes rarely take off. People like existing characters too much

what are they then?

Yes, we do.

I just started a Comic Book club at our library and out of the eighteen members eight are Hispanic. I'll have to ask them about what their thoughts on diversity in comics and if it means anything to them.

Well Black Panther's ethnicity is essential to his character, you would have to change a lot of his character to make it work which then what would be the point? Characters like Batman, Superman, and Spider-Man can really be any ethnicity and not have the essentials to what makes them so great change at all. I tend to think mostly about children when it comes to these castings, I'm sure a ton of children love the Avengers and I think it's a bit ridiculous when you have a movie with more than 5 main heroes all being white. If people don't like the whole race switch then people sure as hell should get on Marvel for not already having movies made with established black heroes. It's pretty crazy when you think about it that 3 out of the 4 main black casted actors currently in the these films are sidekicks and a gatekeeper.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

White, Black, Native Indians, Mixed. It all depends on the country and their background/ heritage. Spaniards are European and they are white.
