Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Yes, we do.

I just started a Comic Book club at our library and out of the eighteen members eight are Hispanic. I'll have to ask them about what their thoughts on diversity in comics and if it means anything to them.

Would you say that culturally speaking that superheroes have comparable appeal to Hispanics as they do Caucasians? I'm just curious, that's all.

This is based on nothing but my own experiences, but I would guess than 75% of the geek-related stuff I sell on eBay goes to someone with a Hispanic name.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

so the white characters also represent for the hispanic audience?
kind of reminds me of this joke lol

Kind of? I don't know that they feel represented...the characters don't have Hispanic names. But in terms of "look/physical appearance" then yes, a WHITE Hispanic might see him or herself represented.

So this Hispanic might feel represented by the "white superhero"

But this Hispanic won't feel the same way....maybe. Perhaps Black Panther will do that.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Ben Reilly or fail.

:lol You win the thread. Honestly if I were Sony, I would adapt Spiderverse, throw every Spider-Man to the wall and whatever stuck is getting a solo film.

As for diversity, I think the problem is that people don't look at comics like mythology. Was Hercules white? No. Was Hercules Pacific Islander? No. That doesn't stop Hollywood from casting whomever they want and people enjoying it. I don't really care if Peter Parker is black, Asian, or whatever as long as it doesn't A: stoop to stereotypical joking just for laughs (that goes for any race/culture) and B: is a good story.

Please get bent out of shape both ways, that the characters need to be diverse and that they need to stay status quo. Look at the Michael B. Jordan issue, people bent out of shape because he is playing Johnny Storm. If he does a good job then who cares. Peter Parker is white, he is also from Queens. If Marvel Studios/Sony isn't going to look for a New Yorker with acting chops then we've already got a diversion from the original source. If they cast a hispanic as Peter Parker for example, he better be damn good and better than all others because I do agree with casting the best actor in the role, not for casting for casting's sake.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

I may be a little late, but I just read that Spidey will appear in Cap3 alongside Iron man and maybe Black Panther. Good thing DC changed the date of their Batman Superman movie. That would of have gotten trampled by Cap 3. A neck snapping Superman, a new Batman, a skinny Wonder Woman, and a few others that are iffy. Does anyone else think that DC is sweating?

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Wonder what the financial give and take is. I'd assume marvel takes all profit from their movies even if spider-man is in them, with a limit on that of course and Sony gets all profit of the solo flicks

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Should they get a North American actor to play Spidey this time? Isn't Parker a New Yorker? Would be cool to see a Peter Parker with a New York accent for once...not that there's only one NY accent and that all NYorker have it, but still. It would be interesting.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Andrew Garfield actually had a subtle NY accent at times.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

By the way, I just read Avi Arad is still executive producer.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Is it true that Spidey reverts back to Marvel in 2020? How about Xmen, it can't be with FOX for all eternity?

This is all guess work since none of the financial terms are or ever will be disclosed, but my best stab at where the money lands:

Sony - theatrical distribution fee, majority of home video, and lion's share of net proceeds; applicable only to the solo Spidey film/s since Sony is financing
Marvel/Disney - merchandising and other ancillary rights (MCU Spidey at the Disney parks anyone?) and remaining net proceeds from film revenues for solo Spidey; they keep everything from their own MCU films even if Spidey is featured

Keep in mind that Disney already had the merchandising rights to Spidey since 2011, so this isn't anything new, just potentially growing the size of the pie via cross-pollination with Avengers. There are definitely things that could complicate the issue which will need to be addressed by both parties. For example, Marvel Studios can release a sequel to Hulk, but if Spidey ends up on the screen for nearly 2 hours, it's basically a Spidey movie yet Sony gets no cut of that? There's definitely going to be limitations on the role Spidey can play. I also wouldn't be surprised if there's some sort of leasing fee paid to Sony for featuring Spidey in a MCU film.

Considering all the potential guest appearances, whoever they end up casting for Spider-Man, I sure hope he's going to be ok with a 20-picture deal :rotfl

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

That's just to give him producer credit, exec producers for the most part have no creative input. It's more of a goodwill for having been a producer on the previous Spider-Man films, I wouldn't worry about him getting involved.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

As I understand it, the Sony and Fox film rights are in perpetuity, so as long as they keep producing films every couple years, Marvel won't ever get the rights back.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Why this Donald guy though? He's mainly known for his rap music, how about we stop casting all these musicians and get a black unknown trained actor for the role, like WB did with Cyborg.

And yes I know Donald Glover has been a few movies and shows.

I blame tumblr honestly....... they are all about diversity and keep crying about a black widow movie and more diverse characters when we already have those. I dont get the whole make characters black thing as a POC cause we have black and POC characters who arent explored yet. Spiderman has a rich and very diverse universe already why cant Miles be a part of the spider family same way nightwing is part of the bat family?

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Even patents expire, whoever made those deals back then was retarded. Should have been 20 years or 10 films. Oh well, hindsight.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

It's a token. He has no real input or clue what is going on.

Nope, Sony's deal is exactly like Fox's or else they'd just wait them out. It isn't like Marvel Studios doesn't have enough on it's plate.

I have a feeling it'll make Sam Jackson's deal look minimal. I would expect at least a 9 picture deal.

Ironically The Verge just posted an article about using Miles over Peter:
Enough Peter Parker: the Marvel Cinematic Universe doesn't need another white Spider-Man

Comicvine via Yahoo! is chiming in a bit too but not on the lead:
Spider-Man Reboot: Must-Haves

My casting for Peter? Dylan O' Brien. Youthful enough, catches the younger MTV crowd, pretty good actor, can look the part, has begun more actionesque roles with Maze Runner, can deliver a funny line.

That's why Marvel felt they were short handed and taken advantage of. Company on the verge of going under and other companies swooped in and made one sided deals. :lol that why i laugh at people saying Fox has every right to keep the XMen and F4 movies away from Marvel, in a sense they do but its not morally good as those supporters make it out to be.
