Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Ha! I doubt that very much. He single handily destroyed SM3 so he could make a few extra bucks selling toys. He has A LOT to say on what goes on these garbage movies from Sony. There is no way in hell he is gonna walk away from this. Do you really believe someone in that position and "power" would be humble enough to sit quiet?

You realize you could get EP credit and still have absolutely zero say in a movie's production in this industry, right? Not uncommon to see agents of star talent getting EP credits. Believe me, Fiege would not do this deal if it meant Arad would still be involved in some capacity. Arad himself has said he's looking to do (aka ruin) other projects outside Marvel, like Ghost in the Shell, sounds to me he's ready to move on.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

But Ultimate Spiderman is pretty good. Spiderman getting an opportunity to join Shield and the Avengers, maybe being the leader of a young group of superheroes is a story that we haven't seen, and it would still be a Spiderman film. :dunno
when you mention ultimate spiderman the only thing that pops in my mind is the current cartoon and if any movie were to follow that format it would be trouble.

Even in the comics he does cameos and is featured in cross over events, but I really can't seem him at least on screen taking on the likes of Thanos and all that.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Who's the other two women in that pic? I'm guessing one is Maria Hill and you can see Widow, who's the other? Doesn't look like Pepper.

It's Claudia Kim's character, don't know what her role is though, assuming it has to do with the S. Korea sub-arc in the movie.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

SONY is just saving face. Marvel/Disney will be in control and make the decision....but publicly, Sony will say they have creative control and making the "final decision" (which will be suggested by Disney)

No, he can't take on Thanos...but then again, neither can the Avengers, especially Widow and Hawkeye :lol

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Even patents expire, whoever made those deals back then was retarded. Should have been 20 years or 10 films. Oh well, hindsight.

You can thank Arad for helping to negotiate those deals during the 90s :lol But hindsight's always 20/20, who's to say that the studios wouldn't finance the pictures for anything less than what Marvel had to give up? Just the harsh reality of trying to get a picture made in Hollywood when you're a comic publishing company with no track record in entertainment.

And broke...they filed for bankruptcy at one point :lol

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

And now Marvel has the track record and Sony is on the edge of bankruptcy. :lol

Yep they went BK in 1996, not much bargaining power with the studios. I don't like Arad as much as the next guy but as painful as it is to admit this, he does deserve credit for putting our favorite Marvel characters on the silver screen. Stan Lee tried for decades and couldn't get it done.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Having Spidey in the MCU is good in a way they can introduce aliens in a Spidey movie with Venom and Carnage. Then have magic with Mysterio and others.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Ok, so I have been very negative since the beginning of this thread. Actually, probably the most negative dude here right now but I just heard the best bit of good news so far. Guy just gave this idea on Reddit: MCU and Spiderman go to space during the Infinity War and bam... Spidey gets the symbiont suit. Man, that just have to happen!

Also, this deal might be worth just to get this scene alone:

Yeah, and the X Men cartoons in the early 90's, which is where a whole new generation learned about the X MEN.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

So the deal is more simple than I had thought, looks like no money will be exchanged at all out of this deal - Sony keeps all theirs from the solo Spidey films, and Disney/Marvel keep all of theirs. Both parties obviously benefit from the pies growing.

And Sony lets Marvel/Disney "fix" the character and set the tone of the new franchise. :bunnydanc I'm sure there's more to the deal though, like if a movie doesn't make at least a certain amount of money, the deal is over...or Sony gets an extension of the rights or something.

For sure, there's going to be a crap ton of conditions in the agreement. If it were that simple there'd be concerns about possible conflicts of interest with respect to use of Spider-Man, since Marvel Studios wouldn't have a financial interest in making a solo movie that would sell well theatrically, just as long as it sells toys for Disney. I'm sure both parties signed this in good faith, plenty of legal firepower backing up either side too, 'to the best of ability' language and all. What this does spell out is Marvel Studios will be concentrating much more on the wholesale MCU franchises, not much of a financial incentive to spend a disproportionate amount of time on Sony's Spider-Man.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Would you say that culturally speaking that superheroes have comparable appeal to Hispanics as they do Caucasians? I'm just curious, that's all.

I can't speak for everyone of Latino descent but for me and the friends I grew up with, yes.

There has to be something about how much Marvel can use Spidey. If not they could put him in every movie and benefit from the character and thus hurt the box office of Spideys movies from Sony.

So with Sony benefitting whole from their movies and Marvel from theirs it seems the only change is this reboot will be in the MCU. They'll have to work together to co-ordinate things though because if the Sony Spider-Man movies don't feed into the MCU as a whole then they'll not get the benefit of it nor the money from "the next MCU chapter" which is what's most important for this shared universe thing.

Hopefully the MCU elements in the Solo Spider-Man flicks aren't forced or take too much away from the story at hand, like Iron Man 2 or TDW
