Spider-Man 2 is overrated though. Spider-Man 1 is overall a better film. Spider-Man 2 is more ambitious which makes it more flawed, but it's still a solid film with a lot of problems. Spider-Man 2 has a terrible final battle as well. Spider-Man 1 had a great brutal final battle.

Spider-Man 1 is great though and still the best Spider-Man movie to date. I even like Green Goblin way more than Doc Ock. Visually Doc Ock was awesome though.

I agree with all of the text in bold. I've always preferred Spider-Man 1 over Spider-Man 2 and Green Goblin over Doc Ock. :monkey3

The drama in these MCU movies are just lacking. I get that they're disposable entertainment but Raimi's first two Spidey flicks balanced the humor and drama very well.
Exactly. I felt nothing for the characters in this film.
There's no pressure on Peter for failin' as a superhero.
If only this film had JJJ... Spider-man would be the actual villain. :lol

SM2 is more ambitious which makes it more flawed.
:goodpost: :lecture:lecture:lecture

I meant to say this didn't break Woman Woman's opening... but it did, barely. They're still saying WW is the Top Dog of the summer.

They say that's a first (female lead leading summer boxoffice) since before JAWS started blockbuster summers. That's a long time. :lol

I think it even has a chance of surpassing GOTG2 domestic.

jye standing down lol

Oh no you didn't Jye.

I shall do what I must a-dev-won.

I will accept people preferring Spiderman 1 over 2. They're both very good films, still the pinnacle of Spiderman at the cinema to date.

I love how Doc Ock in Spiderman 2 can take multiple direct punches to his face from Spiderman and not get hurt his sunglasses don't even move then he survives a 1,000 foot drop onto a train lol.

But muh Spiderman 2 is so perfect.

Vulture and his crew seemed almost unphased by Hollands punches and kicks.

It's an armor suit for the military, the entire thing is bulletproof, perfect for anyone who doesn't want to get shot and killed, how doesn't that make sense?

Didn't care for that outfit but is was neat seeing Defoe talking behind the masks mouth.

Spidey 1 was a let's see if we can do this movie. What kind d of villain was the goblin? He killed the board that replaces him, but then what? What was his plan, fly around the city singing songs while he terrorized old ladies who were saying their prayers? He hated Spidey because he did not join him? I never got that. And there's a part that n the movie where nothing happens so they had to put in an MJ robbery just for that kiss. The story are just segments strung together. And the ending with people throwing rocks at goblin was laughable and the audience was laughing and I watched it in NY!

Yea the suit was absolutely terrible. But it made a lot more sense for him to wear. Makes a lot more sense than why he wears a costume in the comics actually :lol

My goal was to knock Spiderman 2 down a few notches not elevate SH lol

I did find that a bit cringeworthy but otherwise I just enjoyed the set-pieces even without the Goblin having much of a plan. The fighting was good.

The first half sounds almost exactly like Spider-Man Homecoming actually :lol

Norman took the Goblin serum because he needed to do human trials asap, the chemicals make him go crazy, he then kills the board members for screwing him and yes, tormenting the city because Goblin is crazy, and like the board members he knew the people would cheer for Spider-Man for a bit then turn on him, like the board members turned on him. He wanted Spider-Man dead obviously because Spider-Man was a threat. St the end of the day, after he experimented on himself he was crazy, so causing chaos was pretty much all he wanted.

Goblin had no end goal, he was just a psychopath after taking the serum and needed to be stopped. That's fine, to me. He's basically like Nicholson's Joker.

The kiss actually was pretty essential and iconic and actually played a part in the next two films as well.

Attacking Peter's aunt so he would get the point.

NYC thing was cheesy, but less cheesy than the fat dude on the boat cheering for Spider-Man and Iron Man :lol

The beauty of Spiderman 1 is it's a simple straightforward origin movie that nails the characters and action.

Come on, one guy cheering on heroes is worse than a bunch of people hurling rocks under a bridge? And if the people did turn on Spidey then why were they hurling rocks in his defense?

That scene proves Goblin was wrong, that's the point :lol

Yea that one fat guy made me cringe more than people getting Spidey out of a sticky situation.

As you can see, Spider-Man 1 doesn't really have many problems, and plenty of superhero movies suffer from such cringeworthy scenes.

I still enjoy the Raimi movies and will always appreciate them as part of the wave that broke the ground for what we have today, but they are starting to show their age. They've gotten campier with time.

Even if improvements to the effects, script, acting, etc. could be made, the outline for all the action scenes are still awesome. I'm sure we'll see things more in line with pt. 1's parade, burning building scene and end fight, and pt. 2's bank robbery/building fight, etc. in the next movies.

It did bother me that an un-piloted cargo plan carrying such important items had virtually no security with it whatsoever. You'd like they would have Vision or somebody look after it to make sure nobody tried to hijack it or something. But I guess that's what Spidey was for??? :dunno

I can justify almost any fault that some guys here are bothered with, but this is the one that has no answers.

You can say he was a late-comer to the world of Star Wars, and has become a bigger fan since CW. Or that he was explaining ESB in the noobish way he did because he thought that no one there knew the movie or would know what Hoth, ATATs, etc. were by name (and the whole "you know that really old movie..." thing was obviously just a set up for jokes about his age).

He's obviously gushing with enthusiasm because he was a nerdy twerpy kid that suddenly gets these powers, and next thing you know there's a chance of him being an Avenger. Since Feige said that he's the kid in IM2 wearing the IM mask, you have to imagine that he's being idolizing Stark and the crew since he was a kid, so this is a dream come true for him. I'm sure we'll see a much less hyper Peter going forward.

But the plane is unexplainable. Sure they put it in stealth mode and sent it off not knowing anyone was scoping it and ready to make a move, but the damage it took should have alerted reinforcements

... some men just want to watch the world burn.

He pretty much sums up his motivation on the rooftop. It's nothing more than wanting to destroy because he's twisted and insane.

Why does it look like a monster? Why is it metallic green? We have bullet-proof armor now and it doesn't look like green dragons.

Spidey 1 is far from a perfect movie. The speech uncle Ben gives him doesn't quite fit the scenario unless he knew Peter has powers. He tells him that with great power comes great responsibility, but what great power did Peter have? He had a fight with a bully at school and came out on top. Ok. I did the same thing in Highschool and my father told me nice going son! Maybe I should have done a back flip before the fight and hit him with some food first then i would of had some great power I needed to be responsible for.

You said the suit made no sense, not the design. Does it really matter why it's green? I don't know of any bulletproof armor on the level of that suit existing today. Bullets were ricocheting off of him like nothing. It was being made for the military, imagine if soldiers now had a suit like that mass produced?

I'm assuming it's green and has a Goblin face to fit with the Goblin brand, the serum they were creating for performance enhancing soldiers.

Never said it was perfect, but as we can see, you're reaching to find some problems with it :lol

I don't see how Uncle Ben's speech didn't fit the scenario, he noticed Peter was changing, getting into fights at school, becoming irresponsible at home, having an attitude etc... he noticed Peter was changing, and gave him a much needed speech. Since your father would do the opposite it makes no sense? Everyone is different.
