Hes a disgusting white male. White men are obsolete bro.
Of course he would be a loser today more than ever

These guys will bring the whites back to their former glory.

But isn't she only loosely based on Liz Allen? That's not even her last name in this. And it's not like Liz Allen was anyone significant in the comic anyway.
She was both Allen and Allan in CB, they're just variant spellings of the same thing.
Iconic or not, it's still a race change of an established character for pathetic reasons.
And it's not even the first time with her... Try Spectacular Spider-man kids show. :lol

Saw it last night with the kids, and I quite enjoyed it.
Tom Holland is a great Spiderman, he's actually believable as a teenager. Didn't really like the sidekick angle, although the interaction was fun, and funny.
Didn't like Flash either; he's supposed to be an all-american jock. I could live without the all-american, but the patriotic jock part is essential to the character IMHO. Does the love interest (Liz) exist in any of the comics? I'd never heard of her... She was nice and charismatic, everything you'd hope from MJ. Whoever Zendaya is playing just didn't work for me.
Keaton was great as the Vulture, and both Happy and Stark were solid. No complaints there.

As for the movie itself, well, it's one of the better Marvel movies IMO. Largely due to Holland's charisma. I got a lot of Luke Skywalker in his teenage angst/exuberance, and some Anakin Skywalker in his "why is he holding me back/it's his fault" attitude, which was fun, considering all the SW merchandise on display. I'm positive they (producers/director) were aiming for that.
It's still very much a Marvel movie (the consequences of the devastation of NY were that a demolition/recovery crew got screwed in their business), pretty light and merry-go-lucky, but that works very well for a teenage movie. The first half was a bit slow, and the third act was the usual CGI fest, but the overall experience was very entertaining.

I still prefer DC's (Snyder's) flawed explorations of "metahumans" in the real world, but this is harmless fun to enjoy at the theatre.

I'm not really familiar with her so I just did some quick digging around. I guess they revived her and now she's in current comics & cartoons? I thought she was a silver age character that was short lived and forgotten about. Something like the Night Nurse, which is why it doesn't bother me when a character like that turns to Rosario Dawson on screen. If she's a bigger deal now, then it would bother me too. But I think it's most important for the big side characters, like the MJ's & Flashes of the universe to resemble how the appeared in the pages.

Why do you feel Shocker was an insult? For the way he was handled in general or the fact that they had a suit for him in early production that ended up getting scrapped?

Did anyone else think it strange when
peter is caught in his room with Ned while wearing only his underwear? May's like "dinner's almost ready boys." She doesn't even bat an eye lash. If I got caught in my underwear with my best friend my mom would probably buy me a woman for an hour.

Well, when she said "you might want to put some close on", it was in a weird way :lol

There was only one thing I found weird about this flick honestly. And of course all of us who love this genre suspend disbelief as second nature, but one thing stood out that was hard for me to dismiss.

How many engines would that plane have to lose and how many gashes to the exterior should it take before a squad of Quinjets were on the scene?? They were wrecking a plane full of things worth more than "you and me", plus a Mark 42 and no one noticed?

I never pick the little things apart, but that one was a bit far fetched, even for this believer

Well aside from that, a lot has grown on me, and what I already liked was enhanced after watching this a second time.

Bearing in mind that they had a hard task in trying to do certain things totally differently than what’s been done before, I appreciate the approach on certain aspects.

Things that changed after round 2:

-His age reads a lot better to me now. I guess I lost sight of how high-schoolers look and act, but this is accurate. Maguire, Garfield, MJ, Gwen, etc. were supposed to be a couple years older, but felt more like mid-twenties.

-Don’t hate it anymore but don’t think a V.I. assistant in Spidey’s suit is necessary. Don’t know if I’ll get used to that.

-Liked most of the comedy from the start, but some things that didn’t hit the first time, did the second. Basically all the comedy in this hits the right notes (surprisingly even the porn line, which my first theater was half silent for but cracked up the entire theater the second time)

-Don’t mind Aunt May not having an iconic look/age anymore. Marissa is great for this Spidey.

-Thought that they showed a glimpse of his Spider Sense in CW but not here, but then I caught a part on the ferry where they did. It was understated like in CW, and in the same fashion there was something coming at him from behind that he dodges without looking.

-I first thought that he looked more polished in CW, and way less seasoned in this. This time around it’s clear that all the goofiness in the first chase crashing through back yards and whatnot was more for comedy sake than to show inexperience. There was the other time he lands face flat on a rooftop when I guess he misjudges his swing; again it was meant for laughs. He gets dragged for a while hanging on to the van and then he falls when Karen changes the web shooter mode to rapid fire, so maybe seeing all that starts to add up and register like he’s a mess. But when you strip it all down and just look at the ATM scrap, The Capitol, the Ferry and the final battle, he’s just as precise and sure-footed as he was in CW.

-The finale could have been more compelling, but I do like the way they took Spidey out of his element. Instead of placing him in the perfect environment for another display of acrobatics, web slinging and fisticuffs, he was hanging on to a plane where his skills were rendered half useless. He was fighting The Vulture and the situation/environment.

Things that didn’t change:

Still can’t stand Nu-Flash

Hate that they even have Zendaya and MJ in the same thought, no matter what the now-reported reason is.

The characters themselves and the performances were fine, but that’s no Flash Thompson; they should’ve named him something else and that would’ve been cool. And I’d rather see them introduce the real MJ and keep Michelle on the side as a friend/secret admirer

All in all I love this flick aside for the few nits, but I can say it was REALLY good but not over the top great. I think they're gearing up big for pt. 2 and that'll be the Empire Strikes Back of this trilogy

I can now say the ending with
aunt May cursing
is now my favorite MCU ending, very funny.
Friggin’ perfect!!! And the way it runs right into Blitzkrieg Bop and the cartoony/crayon montage!! :rock:rock

I did like how they wound up on Coney Island for the final fight. Was a nice touch.

Another perfect choice! Love Coney, and love that it ended there.

Especially love him watching on from the top of the Cyclone at the end of it all

I do think Keaton was one meaty scene short of earning him top spot on the MCU villain list.

He was definately good but needed something to push him over into greatness and it never came.

The climax battle didn't do anyone any favors it was a mess.

I thought the same thing the first time and even more so after the second. He definitely needed one more killer scene to be stand-out.

But I have to say I can't rank him as best MCU villian. Don't get me wrong, I definitely dug him, but I guess I'm not connecting with him like some others here are. I did want to see more of him, but I'm still not sure that would've made him the top baddie in my book. Sometimes more screen time makes a difference, and some rare occasions it doesn't. I think Winter Soldier as a villain blows Vulture away, but he had more screen time to earn his worth. I'm sure I'm alone on this, but I found Rumlow more riveting. He had less screen time in 2 movies than Vulture had in one, but I found what he did within that time more compelling.

Loved the movie and a welcome change! Holland is fantastic as Spidey and Peter! Great blend of the 616 and Ultimate Spider-man (Younger, "hipper" Aunt May, Peter's best buddy...though it's borrowed from Morales' Spidey)

The only way I think they went wrong is:

Like some of you, I don't care for the casting of some of Peter's classmates. I'm sorry, I also dislike this whole "diversity" casting push we've seen. I don't mind classic characters like Ned Leeds being Pete's buddy, or even Flash as an Indian kid. But Flash should've been more of a physical presence/bully, I know he eventually becomes friends with Peter (we see this a lot in the Ultimate Spidey comic)...but why is this scrawny kid pushing him around? I felt like even a non-powered Parker could knock him out.

Don't mind the Liz Toomes (Allen) character. Nice twist there!

Don't care for Zendaya as MJ. Hope they retcon this and introduce a true MJ.

Yeah I expected her to do the whole Sam's mother thinking she's walked in on special time in Transformers routine, complete with the whole "not that there is anything wrong with that" dialogue after remarking that he should put a shirt on (while with his "friend")

10/10 for me. I love this movie, haven't seen a movie that I really enjoyed this much. This is even better than civil war IMO, and that's saying a lot. But I gotta say winter soldier is slightly better than this.

Anyone else feel slightly annoyed with stark? I used to enjoy seeing his scenes but for some reason, I find him kinda annoying in the scenes he's in.

Saw it last night, extremely mediocre across the board.

First thing I have to get off my chest, what is it with all this love for Michael Keaton? Can people be honest? The guy is barely in the movie, he's not even remotely close to being a great villain, he has zero memorable scenes, not even anything memorable action wise, his performance was on par with just about ever other MCU villain actor. All I can say is unlike most other MCU villains, his plight resonated with me, that's really it. Nothing about the character or performance was in any way special or unique. I cringed when he killed Shocker which I'm assuming is his first murder ever, and he just acts like it's another day at the office, but then again this is an MCU flick so of course this movie can't focus on some realistic reactions to darker moments, everything is just blown off by a joke. I understand people like his Batman, and Beetlejuice was fantastic, but be honest people, the blind fanboy love that guy gets is pretty sickening.

On to Tom Holland, I really enjoyed him in the role, he's a far better Spider-Man/Peter Parker than Andrew Garfield, and would certainly rate him higher, he probably is the best live action Spider-Man to date if you compare him to the comics, but Toby is still number one in my book. Holland overdid the whole teenager thing in my book and at times came off more like a 10 year old. Everything that came out of his mouth was "woah, super cool, that's awesome!" Etc... I felt like I was watching a caricature of a teenager, his performance never felt real to me. I loved his chemistry with Aunt May though, and while she didn't have a lot of screen time I think Marisa is probably the best aunt May to date.

Surprisingly I also liked the new Flash, I thought the kid playing him had some of the funniest lines in the movie, and came off more as a real bully in this day and age, especially for a highschool in Manhattan. The rest of the supporting cast were absolutely forgettable and cliche.

I'm a fan of Bokeem Woodbine, he's been in a ton of stuff but he was just fodder in this movie, I actually wish he was the shocker to die because the white bearded shocker actually had a ton of charisma and personality, he was actually more interesting than Bokeem and Michael Keaton combined, shame we won't see him again.

Hands down the worst action from a Spider-Man movie to date. The Raimi trilogy action absolutely smokes this, the swinging also seemed like a major step down compared to previous Spider-Man films. The CGI was abysmal as well. The final battle with Vulture also ranks up there with one of the worst final battles I've seen in a superhero movie ever, this was even worse than Cap vs Red Skull on that jet, anticlimactic, rushed, and unoriginal.

Liked Tony Stark in this a lot, I got shades of Tony Stark from Iron Man 1 in this. Downey had just enough screen time to not be annoying. This has been the first time I liked seeing Downey as Stark since IM1.

Overall, this was a mediocre movie, absolutely forgettable, I can't see myself ever watching this again. Extremely inferior to the first two Raimi films, and I would say it's about on par with the first Amazing Spider-Man. It seemed focus on only two things, world building, and showing Spider-Man in unusual circumstances, there was barely a story, subpar villains, subpar supporting cast, horrible action, and this was basically another origin film. I liked Holland, Flash, Stark, and the Captain America cameos were great.

6/10 in my book which is the same score I gave The Amazing Spider-Man.

I would rate the Sony Spider-Men like this:

Toby
Holland
Garfield

I'd like to see Holland act like more of a human being in the next film (if I watch it) and not a cartoon.

I read pturtles negative review then I think of my own problems with the movie some of which matches pturtles as well as the complaints from others.....

Yet......

I find it amazing that the movie was able to push thru all that and still be an entertaining fun experience.

Both viewings the entire audience laughed, clapped and cheered.

Kids and parents all enjoying themselves.

Which makes it a good attraction, not a good movie. Don't have anything against that at all tho. I go for a big screen watch because even if the movie is bad I can laugh at it with my friends. :)

I was about to say that there were no cringe worthy moments in the movie but I think they should've handled Toomes differently after he crossed the line with his first murder.

He should've said "Anyone else threatens me they will get the same treatment"

Instead like pturtle said they tried to make the audience have sympathy for him by making it a mistake that he grabbed the wrong gun and then trying to add a layer of humor ontop if it.

That was probably the only time I half cringed lol.
