Like Khev, I just saw this yesterday. I also got some weird Star Wars prequel Vibes here and there. Which is unfortunate. But overall I felt it was a high-quality film. The performances were terrific across the board. I really liked the primary villain, and there were bits and pieces of the film that, if stuck together without the CG action stuff that was over-the-top and ridiculous, probably would have made it a much better film.

Like The Last Jedi, I did notice some ham-fisted political overtones. But it was made by African-Americans with an African-American audience firmly in mind. That was reflected in the audience who I saw the movie with. And as such, it's not surprising to see that. I did think the focus on underprivileged communities being overlooked and neglected was a good thing to have discussed in one of these movies. A lot of people just keep their heads in the sand about that, and maybe this will give people living in those situations a bit more empathy and concern by the masses.

I don't think this is the greatest comic book movie of all time, and some of the hype seems over the top, but it was well done and I enjoyed it.

SLJ only appears in movies where he is the only man of color.

Now someone give Tarantino a marvel movie.

I hear he's handling Ant-Man part 3.

That's honestly cute. Kitties, and other domestic animals, getting new homes is always great.

Yeah, it is:).

Re the "cultural appropriation stuff" OMG guess I have to give up my shameful insensitive tacos and sweet & sour chicken now...funny, every time I've talked to black people about stuff I wasn't raised with like greens they all seem delighted by my interest. Not sayin' that only black people eat greens but just stuff that seems more typical to southern food culture and all that. I always thought that sharing cultures is one of the best things.
Huh.

People can be such *****.

Wish I could've read the comments. People are taking this **** way too serious. I spent a bunch of time reading Facebook comments with people fighting back and forth about Shuri or whatever her name is, being a Disney Princess, and of course, the best one 'eva. :lol

We live in a time when everyone is hyper sensitive, and is terribly offended by everything.

If you loved "Black Panther," prepare to be disappointed by coming comic book movies....

Another underdeveloped mad titan of a villain like Thanos feels especially small compared with the main "Black Panther" villain, Erik Killmonger. As a villain, Killmonger is sympathetic with a crucial backstory and a real purpose that may be morally questionable in execution but thought-provoking in theory. He is such a compelling villain that he prompts the hero's perspective to change by the end of the film. In a post-"Black Panther" Marvel universe, Thanos may not cut it.

The same can be said of another Marvel Cinematic Universe entry this year, "Ant-Man and the Wasp," a movie that now feels as small as its hero compared with "Black Panther." The first "Ant-Man" had the lowest opening gross of any of the MCU movies. With "Black Panther" breaking records, and "Infinity War" coming before it, something tells me the "Ant-Man" sequel will be an afterthought even before it's released.

December's "Aquaman" will be the first movie out of the DC extended superhero universe since "Justice League" bombed with both critics and audiences. Aquaman has always been a joke of a character, and it wasn't until recent years that he started being "cool" — but that's only if you read comic books. To general audiences, the only knowledge people have of Aquaman is what they've seen from "Justice League," which drastically underperformed commercially. There's little reason for moviegoers to be excited for his solo outing at this point.

"X-Men: Dark Phoenix" will be the latest film in a franchise with a convoluted timeline that no longer makes any sense. Not to mention, the Dark Phoenix storyline is one that was done just 12 years ago in "X-Men: The Last Stand," albeit poorly. Compared with "Black Panther," it offers nothing unique to look forward to.

As successful as the first film was, "Deadpool 2" is still a sequel. And the first "Deadpool" ignored superhero norms, but it didn't revolutionize the genre. Neither will its sequel.

Not since 2008's "The Dark Knight" has the superhero genre been energized the way it has been for "Black Panther." And not since that film has a superhero movie sparked so much intelligent discussion.

IMO not since WW has a movie been overhyped the way BP was, to the point some found it alienating - including me. Like these kinds of articles. Without even seeing the film it's pretty clear there are some issues. Whether those issues like the CGI bother you IMO is subjective:dunno Possibly there are people who don't find the idea of a villain like Thanos - an Eternal - appealing. IMO an essentially psychotic, intelligent being like Thanos is kinda like the Alien xenomorph - inherently terrifying. Plus, Thanos reminds me of what a Chinese friend told me about dragons - they are just ABOVE in Chinese culture; neither bad nor good. Like a storm. You can't judge them by human standards. Except Thanos will wipe out the earth and grin while doing it. The concept of the Outriders already creeps me out even in the comics.:horror

Anyway for me I'm hyped for IW and Antman; I'd be more hyped for Aquaman except not a fan of Mamoa; X-men is a wait and see. Just sayin' I think this article reads like the writer is pretty smug over a movie that not everyone thought was all that. And some of the "discussions" I've read really seem to be more complaints, and even accusations of BP being racist - in the sense that BP was too wimpy and Marvel shouldn't have killed Killmonger off etc.:google

I notice that guy deliberately left the upcoming New Mutants off his list since it obviously wasn't consistent with his narrative that BP will be the most unique cbm this year.

It seems that playing The Human Torch in a crappy FF flick is apparently your ticket to immediately playing a badass as an MCU character, lol. Too bad he'll never be able to face off against Evans Cap.
Well, lots of character who appear to die in these films don't actually die, so who knows?

Someone will find a problem with everything. Last week I read that a mom was boycotting Peter Rabbit because it uses berries as weapons against someone and her son was allergic to berries. If you want to hate something bad enough you will always find something to complain about.

that is a problem because it encourages kids to bully kids with food allergies and to throw that deadly food at them.
The movie makes it a funny thing about the rabbit trying to kill the poor guy. it is a comedic moment of a real serious issue.

Because then the little satans will go to school and try to recreate the movie with kids with allergies

New Mutants doesn't come out until February of 2019. Maybe that's why he left it off?
