I can understand some people's aversion for Kubrick but Scorsese?!

Great directors live and die without ever achieving the sublime perfection that is Goodfellas, best gangster film of all times! Yes, even better than that one. :lol

I don't find Goodfellas especially interesting or worth revisiting. But that's partially due to my general disinterest in glorified Mafia stuff. I won't say it's not great at it's genre or epic if you're into everyone acting for the third balcony. I remember watching Shutter Island and thinking "Jesus, he's even got the music yelling at the audience now."

And speaking of acting on 11, it's kind of remarkable now to revisit The Godfather and realize that young man playing Michael will eventually become a cinematic fire-breathing dragon on every other line of dialogue.

Like Junkion I can easily recognize the "greatness" of Scorsese and Kubrick but their films have never spoken to me personally which is why I said I wasn't a "fan." Even among crime movies I much prefer Heat, L.A. Confidential, Fargo, Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction to Goodfellas.

1941 > Any Nolan movie?? :lol

A lot of great directors have made two great films in a row (T1/ALIENS for Cameron, American Grafitti/SW for Lucas, JAWS/CE3K and then Raiders/E.T. for Spielberg, ALIEN/Blade Runner for Scott, etc.) but very very few have ever made three great films in a row (at least since the 70's.)

Depending on what you consider great, both Cameron and Spielberg have down 3 in a row.

You really are a funny guy! :rotfl

Also Jackson lost his cred long ago by delivering three turds in a row and boy am I being generous.

Not even close those Spielberg movies > Nolan movies.

Oh no doubt but the point was

see below.

At the end of the day as much as I hate to say this but the reality is.....

LOTR trilogy > OT

Nope.. Not for me.

SW > FOTR, TTT, ROTK

ESB > FOTR, TTT, ROTK

ROTJ > TTT

Now LOTR films are more consistent but they will never be viewed as many times as I have watched the OT.

I love FOTR and ROTK but TTT is dreadfully boring IMO. Nothing really happens in that one and the Warg Rider and Helms deep battle are the worst action set pieces in the series. Sure its better made then ROTJ but not as fun as Jedi and Jedi has some trilogy highlights in it.

AS for RO and the LOTR

RO > TTT

But is LOTR > RO/SW/ESB?

RO, SW, ESB > LOTR

:lol

Won't even bite :)

Space operas just aren't my thing. :lol

Even as a non-SW fan even I acknowledge ANH and ESB as 10/10 movies. ROTJ is fun but mediocre (plus I really hate Jabba). Episodes I and II I loathe with every fiber of my body. ROTS has its great moments. The Disney trilogy I find boring and worthless.

Will gladly take any Pirates film over any SW film after 1983.

I love Scorsese but he has not had the three in a ROW of greatness IMO.

I am with Khev on Kubrick... Though I do love Clockwork Orange and The Shinning.. It kind of ends for me there. But some would say Dr. Strangelove, 2001, and A Clockwork Orange are three greats for sure.

I think Cameron did hit the big three though.

The Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss, Terminator 2, and hell even True Lies and Titanic are next (then Maybe AVITAR).. Now I am not a big fan of some of these but the masses and Oscars sure liked them... But that is pretty consistent.

Personally I would say Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss, > Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins

I can live with that.. (other then RO)

I liked POTC 1 and 2. Thought 3 was a real letdown and did not care for the next two at all.

I would say POTC 1 and 2 > PT and NT But I would still rather watch PT and NT because... Star Wars :lol
