Yeah Jane Punisher would have been right at home with other generic 70's/80's revenge flicks. They could have named it something generic like "Nothing to Lose" and no one would know the difference, lol.

Plus it had the great Roy Scheider! How can someone who calls himself "JAWS" not appreciation that??

lol

I almost wish he wore a t-shirt with a “Keep on Truckin” logo instead of the skull. :lol

Visually, I think Lundgren was the best Punisher. Guy looked like the Jim Lee version. Not a fan of Bernthal or his version, with the exception of S2 DD. As a Punisher fan, I did not like S1 Punisher at all.

Lundgren was definetly late 80's Punisher on the screen. Very Whilce Portacio and Jim lee art look. Also had the crazy aspect down. Jane Punisher was more methodical and planned. Stevenson Punisher is more tactical and Bernthal's Punisher is more brutish. All have great aspects of the character but none have fully nailed it. I enjoy them all for different aspects of the character and I hope season 2 of the Netflix Punisher is better than season 1. Russo needs to be more scarred up since he was completely disfigured I the comics and the ending of season 1 was a good way to establish how he lost his looks and goes completely insane.

Yeah he looks like a little kid in that picture playing GIJoe dress up.

Isn't it reasonable that with Billy Russo's resources that he would be able to afford some of the best plastic surgeons on the planet. While not necessarily removing any trace of his scars, I have to imagine they could clean him up to some extent that he doesn't look like Frankensteins monster.

I liked the soul-less Lundgren look. But I also liked the Stevenson look with the tactical prowess. I just want the Punisher to be tall, hiding from the authorities while scouting scumbags like Batman and dishing out vicious death. I always like to think back to the 2005 Punisher game, where he leaves the country to kill before it gets to New York. True tactical vigilante. No Travolta or parkour gangs.

While wearing the white boots and gloves, right? :D

Thomas Jane Punisher isn't a good adaptation of the comic character but I actually really enjoy it as a straight modern "Western."

Whenever it's on TV or Netflix I almost always give it a watch.
It's a poor adaptation of Garth Ennis' "Welcome Back, Frank" story line. The director completely misinterpreted Ennis' sense of humor (Much like the people making Preacher). Ennis has a very cruel sense of humor that Hollywood is too scared of imitating. The humor in the movie just comes off as buffoonish without that edge. There's also a lot of stupidity in the movie (pointless fiery skull emblem at the end). I still like Jane as Punisher, but that movie has more flaws than I'd like.

Visually he does look most like the art. '91 Punisher is better than a lot of people give it credit but has a lot of flaws and fails at a true Punisher movie.
War Zone is bizarre, there's something wrong with the tone of that movie.
I feel the tone is also a bit off with Netflix season 1 but not as much as WZ, there's just a bit too much melodrama with the supporting cast and the violence in the movie went too over the top. Some of the beatings Castle suffered from I wondered how he'll be able to cope with the lasting effects from the trauma, then he's up and walking about the next episode with some bandages on his boo-boos. It also peaked with the Hotel Battle which the Amusement Park Battle failed to equal let alone surpass.
I'm hoping they knock season two out of the park though, this might be the last Punisher we'll see for a few years.

Jim Lee's art was best in the Punisher series, it's what inspired me to start drawing. Slowly over the years, Jim's style has loosened considerably. Maybe that means he's more confident and relaxed, but I still prefer high detailed tight pencils.

Nothing beats his X-Men and Punisher.

And with the headband.

Ahh, I forgot about his Rambo phase. He even wore it to the side like Sly sometimes. :lol

Yeah, it's a good look for him. I'm serious about the suit tho. It'd be cool if he wore a Solid Snake (game character) type of tactical suit that's form fitting, not baggy, in black with white boots and gloves. I like how in the picture above you can see he's wearing some kind of armor vest underneath the classic suit. Nowadays, he wears that stuff on the outside. No showmanship or style.

Out of curiosity, I finally gave this series a look (albeit a brief one; only watched the first episode). Bernthal has an intensity, but I really wish the powers that be had given this to Jane. I think at this point in his career, he would've really shined, especially with the episodic format. Oh well.

They can never get it right. "Oh it's not realistic". We're watching to be entertained, not to just be drowned in realism.

Just not a fan.. It is better then PWZ though.

But that is not saying much at all.

Yup it’s a Punisher copy but a damn fine fun action movie with a great family destruction revenge plot acted out with great performance and one super hot chick.

The extended cut is awesome.

PWZ is a cheesefest mess of a movie with some great bits sprinkled throughout but that’s it.

Jane’s is a competent movie.

My biggest issue with Jane's film is the Fire Hydrant plot... He spends what feels like half the film placing a fire hydrant in front of a car.. I know its not in it that much but its so Unpunisher like.. I also hated his neighbors.

Its PG-13 rating kept it from feeling like a true classic revenge flick and Travolta did not help.

I find it unwatchable due to the reasons listed above. But I thought Jane was pretty solid as Frank and it had a moment or two of coolness.

Roy Scheider was wasted in this film... It should have been him not Jane playing Frank Castle :lol

Perhaps I should give it another try.. But I think it will feel even less like a Punisher film after watching season two of Daredevil which is still the best Punisher on film so far. Fingers crossed for season two of the Punisher.

If you really have to justify liking a film, then it's obvious that it was not good. And a few scenes doesn't make it a good movie. Sad to say, but the Lundgren Punisher was the best and it barely had a plot.

I'm ready for tomorrow's Season 2.

Holy crap my jaw is on the ground after Frank beat the living hell out of those FEMALES!

He PUNCHED them in their FACES in full view up close holy crap lol

Punisher doesn't discriminate. Look at War Zone when he broke the ladies neck after he killed the old guy in the wheel chair. I hope the show puts the monster that Castle is on screen. He is a mass murderer of the underworld.

That was the part of “War Zone” that I loved. They gave us a great Punisher. Punisher was a beast in “War Zone,” and the kills were great. But they really dropped the ball with the villains. I don’t know how you get Dominic West as the main villain in your movie and manage to screw that up. To me, he was fine UNTIL he turned into Jigsaw, and then, unfortunately, the movie veered into “Batman Forever” territory. But I completely agree with you about the Punisher. In a better movie that version of the Punisher would have worked great.
