BioWare plans to release one more downloadable content package for Mass Effect 2 in 2011.

The developer made the announcement through its Daily News posting, and added that Cerberus Network news updates will cease this month on Jan. 24. However, there will be additional updates when the downloadable content is available next year, and leading up to the release of Mass Effect 3 during holiday 2011.

Below is the statement in full from the team:

The Cerberus Daily News will begin a hiatus on January 24th, finishing its run of one full year. Daily postings will cease except for three weeks in 2011: a week of posts will precede a downloadable content release, and two more weeks will lead up to the release of Mass Effect 3.

The CDN team thanks fans for their attention, comments, and feedback, (both in and out of character!). We are sorry to go, but we had fun –- we hope you did, too!
Mass Effect 2 has seen its fair share of post-release downloadable content. Add-ons "Overlord," "Kasumi - Stolen Memory," and "Lair of the Shadow Broker" expanded the game's storyline. The title also saw several weapon pack downloads.

Mass Effect 2 for PlayStation 3 is set for release on Jan. 18, 2011.

Thanks, lets hope its an amazing final piece of DLC for ME2....a bridging type DLC to ME3 would rock

Just finished my 2nd playthrough, but first time with all the DLC, and loved it....reading the third book now and almost finished it in one day......really good read

Few questions.

1. Will i like this game if i'm not huge into sc-fi besides SW?

2. Do i have to play pt 1 to enjoy/understand?

I like Bioware so i know it'll be done well, just wondering.

YES and NO
It's not too sci-fi. It's just a _____ing good story.

and i played the second one without the first one, and i loved it

replaying this on insanity. Soldier with Geth Shield Boost. Man, you REALLY have to be patient so you dont get killed. o_O

Do yourself a favor and play the first installment first.
Youre robbing yourself of a truly epic gaming experience if you dont.
Its like watching Empire Strikes Back with out seeing A new Hope first.
Why?
ME 2 will read your game save from the first game and carry over your decisions and consequences from the first.
Bioware also rewards you with more for importing into the second installment, with more credits that can give you more of an edge imo (Buy better weapons etc)
You'll make better informed choices in the second if you understand the background of the first.
Youll appreciate the advancement of the story in the second more as well as appreciate Biowares changes to the gui.

Yeah but what about pt1? I don't wanna get lost in the story.

It won't leave you in the dark, but as Spartan Rex states, it will behoove you to give it at least 1 play.

This really isn't giving away major plot spoilers, but I'll add tags just in case someone gets mad.
Playing the first game will give you a familiarity with characters that you'll be recruiting in part 2. This will probably have more meaning as it is recommended to complete "loyalty" missions for these characters because doing so will improve chances of survival and success in later missions, and ultimately the last mission of the game.

Ok, say i don't do pt1. Still gonna be worth it? (story wise)

The PS3 version has a motion comic "retelling" of the first game in which you can make decisions that affect the second game. That should bring you up to speed. Also the PS3 version runs on the ME3 engine.

If you are getting it for Xbox, play the first game first.

If you can play the first one, do so. If not, the interaction comic is serviceable

Two hours in - a very excellent port. Screen tear present in demo is virtually nonexistant in the retail copy. Load times are SLOW, however, in comparison to the 360......

I just finished the game today after playing through the first game last month.

All of my team members survived, but other than Dr. Chakwas, Kenneth Donnely and a few no name characters scattered throughout the ship, I lost most of my crew. :monkey2

I went paragon all the way, but I want to start another game at some point to go renegade and make the opposite decisions that I made on this play through to see what happens.

I rarely play though a game more than once, but I could see myself playing through this series more than twice. I love playing video games, but I never would have imagined there could be a video game universe that I would find as fascinating as something like Star Wars, LOTR, Harry Potter or Babylon 5. I want to read the novels now.
