I went to my local comic book shop after a long hiatus of not visiting on a regular basis. Turns out the owner started acquiring MOTUC stuff, and he managed to get a MOTUC Talon Fighter. I absolutely had to get a closer look to see for myself what all the hype is about. Well... I got some news for you...
Talon Fighter:
Okay, so the ship is ridiculously huge. It's an impressive size, but it's just way too big. Even just to be able to fit two standard sized figures in it doesn't require this thing to be as big as it is.
The clear plastic windscreen on the ship I examined was totally scratched up. This is what we get for $150+ ???????????????
It turns out the canopy that lifts open is one piece and casted in clear plastic and very flimsy. The parts that are blue are painted on.
The radar dish pops into the top, so... your pushing it into a hole that is clear plastic and COULD crack. poor design!!!
The interior of the craft is pathetic. No sculpted and painted seating, just basic seats (if you even want to call them seats) that look like they were designed by the matty design team. There are STICKERS on either side of the rear seat instead of masked and painted detailing. CHEAP!!!
The rear passenger seating area has no handles to hold on to, so... whoever sits back there is just flopping around.
The stickers they include to stick on to the main dashboard are lame. They could have gave more choices since they resorted to using stickers in the first place. Just laziness right there.
The laser cannons that plug into the sides of the ship are cool, but the very ends of them look like butt plugs... they could have sculpted the ends to look like actual gun barrels, they've achieved this before on other vehicles. More laziness.
The wings plug into the side of the ship and seem to be made of a heavier plastic. Not sure what the deal is with those. The wings DO have airbrush detailing surprisingly.
My buddies ship didn't have any major paint blotches which was a surprise, still the scratched windshield ruins the overall look of the ship.
Point Dread:
Let me tell you. This is the part of the playset that is by far the most pathetic. It's flimsy and poorly engineered. The top piece once snapped together the way it was intended doesn't even sit level. One would need to modify it to sit perfectly level.
The way both pieces fasten together was poorly designed. The front of the top piece has spring loaded clips that can't be released once put together. I would imagine if one wanted to separate them there would be risk of breakage of those tabs OR the piece itself.
As we all know the casting of Point Dread is nothing like what the 4H sculpted... so add that to the list.
The computer console is a joke. Flimsy plastic, two piece design with yet another friggin sticker as the main view screen. The sculpt of the screen is curved like an old style CRT Television... so the sticker bubbles on the edges if not applied properly... and the sticker is pre applied by the factory. AND the computer is too short. It's the perfect hight for the vintage figures though.
Teela:
Do I really need to go into this? We all know that This Teela figure is a mess, at least some of us will admit it. However, I personally think the body is okay. the armor is bulky but no different than most of the POP figures. Would a dedicated sculpt look better? Sure, but the Teela body that came with PD/TF looks good IMO. The head... throw it in the garbage. The helmeted head is slightly better in terms of sculpt. the paint apps on both heads are terrible. Also, the helmeted Teela head is two pieces and the helmet sat crooked on my buddies example. Poor assembling here.
This thing IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY. The ship is the only thing that's half way decent about this whole playset. I was glad to have the opportunity to examine one in person though.
