I just got some at the show to help some people on Fwoosh. But after seeing them in person I kind of wanted one of my own. So this is great news since I'll be able to order the set on Matty tomorrow and have the full set still!
Are you saying you were able to BUY some sets with Gleek, or you somehow "just got some" Gleeks by themselves?
Did anyone get the Wonder Twins at SDCC?
Yes. Not without great fanfare, planning, scheming, and tribulation!
This thing has been a H U G E fiasco. Scott is starting to sound like Thomas(CSC), which is not good. I understand he might be frustrated, but so are the fans. I dont know if exclusives should be sold online after the show, but it certainly is not why I go. BUT, out of the 4 years I've gone, there did seem to be a LOT more dealers and scalpers in line for action figures. Im pretty happy with being one of the first to get the exclusives and dont really care if someone has to sit the con out and buy online. That's their business. I do think that Mattel should either give them all away at the show legitimately, or pack them out to loyal customers of their online store. This would at least protect their customers as much as possible from the ravages of the secondary market. I agree that once they are gone, they are gone, but to just hand them over to Fwoosh is a load of crock for anyone who was on the fence about ordering them tomorrow. I will also add that Scott seemed pretty scarce this year....wondering if he was being wined and dined by the Fwoosh folks???
Seriously and unfortunately, Mattel has fallen back into the "one of the worst" exhibitors in the action figure range for exclusives. Gentle Giant use to be the all time leader, but Mattel gave them a run for their money during the Solomon Grundy raffle. I can say that this year, the second sale booth was not very orderly and the team running it really didnt seem to give a damn and almost purposfully mismanaged the whole scene. Jebus, they needed 5 "Elite security" guys to break up the overflow line and the "fast pass" was nothing more than a ruse to get people to go away! I personally saw one of the salespersons tell the line guy not to send anyone else upstairs for fast passes, as they wouldnt be able to honor them. He told her, "what else can I tell them?" and went on telling those poor souls to go upstairs to get nothing. That's pretty low down. Lee and I came back on Thurs at the designated time -to the almost sarcastic with a hint of tuff titty attitude- to be told all Gleeks and He-Ros were out for the day. We were then told that we couldnt use our passes for the next day. So what the hell did I have a pass for? I was told that we'd have to start all over again the next day. So, Friday morning, I went to the line while Lee went to the prescribed Table 8 where the fast pass Mattel lady was handing out tickets. Well, Lee got a ticket for Sat - this was at 9:45am mind you - while I was in line with fast pass folks who had managed to get in line before Lee. Now here's the kicker: Once we got to the front of the line, the nice gentleman was allowing one fast pass person to purchase, then one dealer (or persons without fast passes) to purchase. So, the fast pass thing was nothing at all. They werent even checking them and this was on Friday! In the end, it didnt matter if you had a pass or not, you just had to make a choice to run around where they sent you, or try to get in the "non fast-pass" line that was being roughshot by Elite. So, so very confusing.
Now, there are some reports of folks getting more Gleeks than WTs, but I didnt see any of that and the saleperson who checked Lee and I out was maticulous in counting the Gleeks. I wil say this; it didnt seem like those folks running the booth were really looking forward to that pandamonium going on all day, so it would not surprise me if they did shell out handfulls of them just so they could run out. You can imagine how quiet that booth was on Sat afternoon and all day Sunday without Gleek, He-Ro, Skeletor, Beastman, and He-man. As the brand manager, Scott should do a better job.
Lastly, Lee and I had an extra fast pass that we handed to a guy we met at the Black Panel. If you're out there, hope you got a Gleek - he's turning out to be the figure of the year!
