never mind...just watched it...priceless....Merchant laughed it off too after he told Mayweather he wished he was 50 years younger....

I can't wait for Mayweather to KO Pacquiao:monkey1

Ortiz was a pretender; B. Prescott KTFO A.Khan

$$$ would do the same to the Brit.

...or both $$$ and Pac will retire and that's that:wave

Mayweather took the easy way out, but what was bizarre is that Ortiz still didn't look Mayweather's direction after the first hit, and he never once acted as if anything was out of the ordinary after the fact. His corner didn't react either. The whole situation was bizarre. Almost like he just thew the fight.

Yep i agree with you. And i'd say most people caught in Ortizs' situation would be ____ing pissed at that kind of ____. After the fight was called and even in the post fight interview, Ortiz was smiling like he had just won.

I have a feeling he got paid off big time for this fight.

To be fair, Khan is a much improved boxer under Freddie roach but he's no where near mayweather.

That's because after the first hit he was looking at the ref, Hoping Cortez would step in and maybe deduct a point from Mayweather (bad tactic). And well you know the rest. It's happened before. Both in Boxing and in MMA.

Almost like he just thew the fight.

He didn't "throw it" which implies a fix. But he did quit. And it's not the first time Ortiz has quit in the ring either. He was outclassed and had nothing for Mayweather and that frustration showed when Ortiz resorted to head butting him.

Ortiz doesn't deserve sympathy. He got what he deserved.

Weather Mayweather was to win or lose to manyy or whoever, he is a truly great boxer, great athlete.
I didnt like what i saw the other night mainly because he didnt need to do it.
It was cheap and unsportsmanship. To go through the whole 2 to 3 month training camp to win/ lose like that was poor.
I also dont like the whole cheap, stupid trash talk.
Having said that, he really is a great boxer and imo technically the best there is. But Manny is in such great shape and so dangerous, he could beat him. I just hope Khan backs off as there is no way he could beat floyd at his stage right now.
floyd grow some balls. Manny agree to the test and lets get it on.
Please

I believe Manny has agreed to do the test (Olympic style one) but Floyd just keeps coming up with other lame excuses. Apparently he wants 60% of the money or whatever....

Of Floyd Mayweather’s 42 career victories, his 28th victory, the first one against Jose Luis Castillo, was the most questionable. Though some people agree that he won that fight, there are others who claim that Castillo deserved the nod and this seldom happens for Mayweather fights. He is so good that there’s often no doubt that he deserves to win each and every fight he takes.

Although there is no doubt that Mayweather is the better fighter compared to Victor Ortiz, there's a sense of uncertainty that clouded his most recent win. Unlike his fight against Castillo, Mayweather’s opponent did nothing to make the result of the fight questionable. It was Mayweather who placed the asterisk to his own victory.

Call it retaliation. Call it taking advantage of the moment. Call it cheap shots. Call it whatever you want. The fact of the matter is Mayweather is still undefeated. He knocked out Ortiz in the fourth round of their title fight. However, this fight will forever go down in history as one of Mayweather’s worst wins.

Was the punch legal? Yes; resoundingly so. But somehow, the knockout does not feel right. Why would a talented fighter like Mayweather take advantage of a lull in the action to knock someone out when he could have easily done so later in the fight? Why would Mayweather cast doubts on his own victory when he could have gotten all the props in the world if he defeated Ortiz cleanly?

The disparity in skill between Mayweather and Ortiz is night and day. Ortiz was clueless the entire fight. He had no idea how to stop Mayweather’s lightning quick rights and having a part-time trainer beside him definitely did not help. Mayweather had this fight in the bag but he chose to pass through a shortcut.

Mayweather was toying with Ortiz in the first three rounds and he could have toyed with him for the entire duration of the fight en route to a dominant late round knockout or a wide unanimous decision victory. Yet, he chose to land a left right combination to a defenseless opponent whom he caught unaware. It was indeed a win but it left a bitter taste in the mouth for a lot of people.

Sometimes an act deemed as legal does not necessarily mean it is the correct or moral thing to do. Sometimes you have to choose to be the bigger man; choose to beat an opponent at his best rather than beat him at his weakest. Sometimes you have to forget about yourself and think about the sport first, about the true spirit of competition, about winning with honor and integrity.

Sadly, for Mayweather, it is all about himself. He knows he veered away from the toughest competition at some points of his career and he knows that if he is to be remembered as one of the best ever, he needs to stay undefeated. The obsession to keep his immaculate record has consumed Mayweather.

It is this obsession that prevents a mega fight against Manny Pacquiao from happening. It is the same obsession that pushed Mayweather to hit Ortiz with a combination even if the latter was not ready to fight just yet.

This is the irony of one Floyd Mayweather. We watched him create his name from the early days of his career. We watched him build a spotless résumé. And we paid good money to see him fight. Now, he has officially turned his back on boxing and its fans. All he cares about is keeping his unblemished record. To hell with proving he is the best by fighting the best, Mayweather thinks he is the best because no one has defeated him yet. The folly here is that he fails to realize he has not been defeated because he refuses to mix it up against the one fighter who can beat him.

“Where was he in 1999? In 2000? In 2001? Where was he when I was dominating the game?," Mayweather asked. Well, basically Pacquiao was too busy fighting all comers at the flyweight and super bantamweight divisions in those times. He was busy building a name because unlike Mayweather, he wasn’t lucky enough to be born into the sport of boxing. Everything Pacquiao has, he earned. Nothing was ever given to him.

Mayweather has to realize that in the sport of boxing, no one cares about losses suffered early in a fighter’s career. What’s important is here and now. And at this moment, Pacquiao and Mayweather are the best in the business and should meet inside the ring. Mayweather can exclaim to the high heavens that he does not need Pacquiao but at the end of the day when people look at Mayweather’s perfect record, they will see an asterisk and it will read “Refused to face Manny Pacquiao."

I think the argument is the timing of the test before the fight where it is thought floyd would have the advantage being the larger man....
But you really have hit the nail on the head and I couldn't agree more.
Its almost obsession like for floyd not to have a defeat on his record and its obvious he generally feels Manny poses a very real threat.
I also agree the castillo fight should have gone against floyd and infact i wouldnt even say it was close. If De La Hoya would have thought Floyd a year or two before, he probably would have had the steam to beat him over the 12 rounds. Win, lose or draw against the currant pound for pound, Mayweather after 41 fights has never bean beat, never been knocked down. How ever much you love or hate the man, thats very impressive. But you dont see Pacquiao reflecting on his defeats. He's light years away from the pacman of then and to do it the way he has, going through the weight classes is just awesome.
Time is against these 2 guys now and I personally dont think floyd would be able to retire knowing the world thought he chickend the fight.
For that reason, for the money on the table and the fact he took the Ortiz fight which on paper, was a little risky being away from the ring so long and fighting an akward southpaw champion says to me this fight will happen. I also think there is no way floyd would give Ortiz a rematch.

I think Manny is too busy playing american idol in TV commercials. Wish they both would get off it and lets get this fight sooner than later.

I think Manny is a class act but id love to see him wear one of those floyd chicken t shirts with the picture of his face on the cooked chicken :rotfl
Just until he accepts to fight him.
Would be priceless

I like both fighters. Don't need the commercials though. Just want to see the damn fight.

I just caught the Mayweather/Ortiz bout replay tonight on HBO.

WOW.....

Mayweather's antics were definitely legal, but I would hardly be proud of that victory. I don't doubt Mayweather's talent, but I didn't see anything noteworthy in the ring. If anything, I saw an ultimate opportunist. Nonetheless, it was a victory. I wasn't convinced he was a better fighter than Ortiz or vice-versa.

Perhaps, even more shocking for me, was Mayweather's lack of respect to Larry Merchant. He couldn't give a straight answer, and when Larry asked him to explain the fairness in his knockout, etc., Mayweather results to name-calling and tantrums.

I've always had some level of respect for Mayweather, until now. I'm hoping to see the day he steps foot in the ring with Pacquiao. Mayweather is undoubtedly a talented fighter, but unless he steps in the ring with Pacquiao I think he'll be remembered as the guy who wouldn't fight Pacquiao.

Watch his post fight interview for the Maidana fight where he lost by TKO and in all honesty where he quit. He does the exact same thing. It's just how he (and a lot of people) deal with embarrassment.

I guess you're right.

Never realized how similar it was to his last loss(in regards to how he acted post-fight).

Not my kinda fighter.

Someone wake me up when the ultimate fight will finally happen. I'm getting bored down here.
