Heh, those guys ARE "the man", and in the not-awesome way.

I grew up in a small town of 2500 in rural Tennessee, and had to live there for a few years to help my mom straighten out her house when she had to sell it because of illness.

I now live in Oakland, CA.

I feel safer in Oakland.

To bring this thread back on track, here's a quote that absolutely says it all about Sarah Palin:

"Q: Are you offended by the phrase “Under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not?

Palin: Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and I’ll fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance."

(The google cache of the original printing of this is still available, before Eagle Forum Alaska scrubbed it from their website.)

Do I need to explain to anyone how incredibly daft Palin's response is?

I imagine because the pledge of allegiance wasn't around then and it didn't originally say under god.

Well they owned slaves too, so maybe we should put that back on the table :lol

I love how people use stupid reasons like that to justify themselves.

The point is, the Pledge wasn't written until 1892. Regardless of her opinion on the "under God" bit, attributing it to the Founders was, simply put, really really dumb.

I'm not a big fan of McCain's policy positions (though he is easily the most palatable Republican Presidential candidate since Nixon), but did he really have to pick someone who obviously isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer as his running mate?

And yet Obama is on youtube talking about visiting the 57th state.

I'm afraid the Pledge gaffe is not an isolated mistake, either. The sorts of lapses of judgement Palin shows totally disqualify her from being within a heartbeat of the Presidency.

(I did not make this btw, just cleaned up the profanity. "Galdiator" is not my fault. ;))

I have nothing against guns, I've enjoyed target shooting and skeet shooting with my uncle - a marine who was at the Bay of Pigs invasion (another undeclared war).

But I have an acquaintance - he's an evangelical Christian who is extremely paranoid and convinced the end times are a'comin. And he owns 3 or 4 guns. It just seems to me that those that own guns are the ones that are most likely to use them inappropriately. (Present company excepted of course).

Wow, how did you come about with this generalization that gun owners will most likely use them innappropriately. Isn't that kind of saying that Blacks are criminals and Arabs are terrorist. How about saying most criminals with guns are most likely to use them inappropirately. Makes more sense doesn't it.

That's why I qualified it and used the anecdote about my friend to illustrate. He's not a criminal, but I'm more nervous about him having a gun than a criminal I'll never meet.

I have read an article where some were using this sequence of events to help validate the theory that her newborn isn't hers, but her daughters.

Yeah; the Trig-is-Sarah's-baby theory is really too out there for me, but I'm really confused as to why anyone would fly for like twelve hours while in labor with a low-birth-weight baby. If one is willing to put one's own child in that kind of risk, what risks would she take with the country?

Yep, he wasn't allowed to talk about it until recently. He was very deep in thick of it.
I should start digging if they're finally letting people talk about it. The Bay of Pigs is one of the most fascinating historical events of this century; the events there led to SO much that's happened since, and very few people know very much about it at all.

Considering that democrats are in favor of killing babies anyway maybe it will get the crossover vote.

Yeah, that shows a heavily skewed rationale. Wouldn't want that kind of person in high office. :horror

Not in favor of killing babies...

We just think it should be the choice of the people and NOT their government. Palin thinks that even if a woman is impregnated due to Rape, that the pregnancy should not be terminated.

To me that's wrong.

So back to how Palin is reckless...its more reckless to fly in a plane while pregnant that to simply murder the child? She should have just killed the baby and took the flight and she'd be given the pass?
