Statistically speaking, I probably have a better chance of being struck by lightning than having my home broken into period. I am just saying that that is the rationale.

Umm... No. In the U.S., the number of people struck by lightning over the past several years averages to somewhere between 1000 and 1500 per year. The number of residential burglaries averages to about 1.2 million. You do the math.

Hope you pacifists believe in the afterlife because paradise is the only place you'll find meet the criteria. Until then, I'm glad we arm ourselves.

Again, when was the last time you have needed to use a gun in your defense? Continue to live in fear I guess.

Don't be glib. I have done the research and I have witnessed more cases of lightning attempting to strike things than I have home invasions.

It's not mine, it's a friend's. But it was very damn fun to shoot. :rock

He wouldn't let me shoot the rifle unless I put those damn things on. I actually WANTED my ears to ring, damn it!
One thing people on here aren't understanding is that I do believe in self-defense, but that I also have firearms because I enjoy shooting them. Just as buying collectibles is a hobby, so is shooting for me.

That's the only reason I have firearms, target shooting. If someone breaks into my house, they will meet the business end of a stainless steel bar I have in the closet. (It's poor against lightning, though :lol) With a gun, I am more likely to hurt myself or a family member.

Bull^^^^. Metal bars are perfect for lightning defense. You attract the lightning with the bar and when it gets close, shoot to kill baby.

You, my friend, are a tactical genius. :lecture

I have to love the interviews with gun owners that live in small towns that have virtually no crime but they still insist they need it for protect from "the man"

paranoid much?
Heh, those guys ARE "the man", and in the not-awesome way.

I grew up in a small town of 2500 in rural Tennessee, and had to live there for a few years to help my mom straighten out her house when she had to sell it because of illness.

I now live in Oakland, CA.

I feel safer in Oakland.

To bring this thread back on track, here's a quote that absolutely says it all about Sarah Palin:

"Q: Are you offended by the phrase “Under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not?

Palin: Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and I’ll fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance."

(The google cache of the original printing of this is still available, before Eagle Forum Alaska scrubbed it from their website.)

Do I need to explain to anyone how incredibly daft Palin's response is?
