For some strange reason, it looked wrong when I just looked at that close up pic...

I don't know what it is...but something just isn't right...

Not bashing Medicom, but I really have come to prefer the look of Sideshow ignited blades. I still think the tip is a too skinny, but the medicom (although I really like cleaness of the sculpts and removeable blade) is a bit too broad looking.

Still can't wait to see what this one looks like when people get him.

Ya, it's a nice looking figure, but I have a feeling the final piece will be off from Ray Park like the Jango figure, solid from the nose up, but off below the nose. Don't know why but they seem to struggle with mouths and jawlines. It's still an impressive Maul piece that I can't resist.

I think it's just a left-over affect from the stylized/anime look they always seemed to go for in the past. Eventually, they will get better and better in this area. I just wish they would also start upsizing their damn figures to actual 1:6 like everyone else while they're at it.

Buy Medi-Maul and get the loose SS-Maul sabers from Toy Anxiety. Problem solved.

Just a matter of taste, I actually preffered the Medicom look at first... but I think the Sideshow (even though a tad skinny) looks more accuate overall.

But I didn't feel like dropping the cash for this one so its a moot point, and really just an observation.

I think that's a huge hurting factor for them, the artisans are to used to anime I think they struggle with the crossover. I don't know where HT found their sculptors but Medi should try sourcing people like that, would favor them well.

I always figured the stylized look of the figures wasn't for lack of trying, but that they want to keep the current figures close in style to the earlier stuff. I think Medicom has such a rabid local fanbase that they want to keep those customers happy over the newcomers.

have you seen pics of yulli? she's HT's extremely talented sculptor whose work includes the POTC line, new supes figures and latest rambo. if you had, you'd KNOW they found her at a national beauty contest. HUBBA HUBBA!! :monkey5:monkey5

More power to them if that's how they want to do things, but it'll certainly mean me sticking to a few treasured characters here and there but not collecting them as a whole with humans.

Actually take a look at I THINK ESB during the Vader/Luke Bespin duel. I'm pretty sure that was where I noticed that Vader's saber IS tapered to a point. So you are right and SS sabers are more accurate. There is a difference between appearance from a distance and actual appearance, but it seems SS is spot on in the saber department. I just really wonder how Maul holds those light rods with his "wee hands" :lol Classic Cocoboloboy classic.

The sculpt is indeed a thing of beauty, but the costume is all wrong. On the outer robe it's the material--why in Heaven's name are they using that kind of velvety stuff? It's all wrong! There shouldn't be a sheen on his cloak. The inner tunic and robes are hits and misses. The collar on the inner shirt is magnificently tailored, as are the sleeves leading to the cuffs at the wrist. The boots are also great. However, the layers are simply incorrect. They hang too long and have no body, making them flat and stiff. The material also looks too pressed and starchy. They should be loose weave, baggy, and hang all over the place. The outfit was designed specifially to move almost as much as Maul did.

Combine the MediMaul with the Sideshow outfit, modify a few issues here and there, and you should have a winner. Even though I'm fine with Sideshow's as is, really. I think both sculpts are equally lifelike, only highlighting different expressions. I like the shape and sculpt of Sideshow's more, though the MediMaul does have better coloring. Honestly, I can equally see how somebody could hate one and love the other; it just depends on what you like and how you see things.
