The sculpt is indeed a thing of beauty, but the costume is all wrong. On the outer robe it's the material--why in Heaven's name are they using that kind of velvety stuff? It's all wrong! There shouldn't be a sheen on his cloak. The inner tunic and robes are hits and misses. The collar on the inner shirt is magnificently tailored, as are the sleeves leading to the cuffs at the wrist. The boots are also great. However, the layers are simply incorrect. They hang too long and have no body, making them flat and stiff. The material also looks too pressed and starchy. They should be loose weave, baggy, and hang all over the place. The outfit was designed specifially to move almost as much as Maul did.

Combine the MediMaul with the Sideshow outfit, modify a few issues here and there, and you should have a winner. Even though I'm fine with Sideshow's as is, really. I think both sculpts are equally lifelike, only highlighting different expressions. I like the shape and sculpt of Sideshow's more, though the MediMaul does have better coloring. Honestly, I can equally see how somebody could hate one and love the other; it just depends on what you like and how you see things.

Most of the guys in this debate don't hate one and love the other. Most of them just hate each other and love to argue.

It's just typical fanboy posturing. Really no different than the old Star Wars vs Star Trek or Sony vs Microsoft vs Nintendo crap.

I think some people feel the need to validate their own interests by comparing them to and tearing down others'. It's silly, but rampant in the "geek" realm, particularly on the internet where everyone is a tough guy.

Hasbro makes the best figures to date. They are always dead on.

Best statement ever.... and pretty damn true.

Seriously though, it's dumb for people to try and show the Medi Proto pics next to the SSC Production pics and say it is a fair comparison. Jango looked great in proto, and in production he was a bit skinnier and the skin... Well, let's just say the skin was "MEDICOMMED". ;)

So I am sure that Medi Maul will have flaws as well. Neck joint! Velvet clothing! Plastic belts! Tiny little "wee" hands! Hell, he might end up with YELLOW tats on his face knowing Medicom.

Now, all joking aside. Any figure has it's flaws. I like the expression on the Medi Maul, and I'm sure it will be a fine figure in the end. Just more expensive and with a few flaws. SSC did a great job as well, despite the Buck and the calm facial sculpt. It has it's flaws too, and it doesn't bother me as much because the price was nice. And I was able to fix a lot of the flaws in a single afternoon.

It's ok to say you love something and to defend your right to do so. But it takes a little tact in saying it. :duff

i would have to say that that's all pretty tactful and fair. and that's coming from a medikid. I noticed yesterday having taken SS Maul's hood off after about 6 months that he does actually have a nicely furrowed brow. it's only that hint of a smile that gives it that calm expression i think.

and i really hope you're wrong about maul's face being "medicommed". jango's slight deterioration from proto to product didn't matter too much coz he's got a helmet. but i don't want to have to put the hood over medi maul.

Dude... shut up!

My Sideshow figs could kick your Hasbro equivalents...

No, really...if the laws of physics taught me anything, its that if a 12" fig actually kicked a 3 3/4" fig, it would go flying...

Of course...toys aren't alive...

Very well said Josh. :duff I wish this Josh could be as tactful at times as you are.

Same here. I didn't mind Jango cause of the Helm but if they screw Maul up I'm gonna be hacked. He's my fave and I really want this to come out overall as nice as the Proto.

How is the Proto different from the production piece?

It's not, they're both mediocre. Medicom's got a lot going for them, but human heads, by intent or by lack of skill, just aren't up to the quality and accurracy of other companies.

I would hate to stir the pot or anything but the Hasbro Ultimate Jango has a better face sculpt than the Medi. :monkey3

But the Medi-Jango has EVERYTHING ELSE going for it. :rock

That's why I kid about Hasbro. Their sculpts were and are much better than Medicom's. The paint apps not so much. If you don't believe me than check out some of Customikey's repaints. Some of them look better than Sideshows.

Dang pot stirer!

I've never seen the Hasbro sculpt in person but I think the Medi sculpt looks good. Just like Medi Wolverine, good sculpt but bad paint.

I think they did a fine job with his sculpt and pint, considering what other companies have done with thier mask covered figure's (HT's Predator 2 head sculpt hack job)

I just got this figure in the mail for my 6 year old son.I will say that it's not bad for a Hasblo figure, but as for having a better sculpt than Medicom's I think
NOT

i agree to some extent but not entirely. some of medicom's sculpts of japanese actors have been phenomenal. but, chavez, as much as i love medi, i have to admit that the production jango isn't quite as good as the prototype. then again it's closer than some of sideshow's have been in the past. so comparing medi to hasbro is a little harsh i think. considering i shelled out so much cash for this ****! don't make me feel bad!

both companies have been hit and miss over the last year or so. best human heads? hot toys. for damn sure.

I'm happy with Medi Jango.I think they did a overall killer job with him and his sculpt, could he be better yes.I'm sure every figure could be improved upon. But I highly doubt any company is going to best Medi Jango anytime soon.

Without question, the execution of sculpting on Medicom's Jango is far better, but the replication of the source material shows better in Hasbro's sculpt, it looks more like Temurra Morrison as Jango Fett.

Maul looks good and I'm sure he'll turn out fine, but I have a feeling the overall head may end up feeling more generic than Ray Park.
