Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!
So was the hand ever used like this in the movie? Just curious

I believe that's the actual hand. Giger did the full Alien sculpt and then a mold was made of the entire thing.
Check out this site. It's an excellent reference for the Alien. And watch the "Screening Room" videos for footage of Giger working on the sculpt.

Yeah, but it still look better in those days.
Wow Batty,
Thanks for the link to a site I was never aware of. Do you know how much the original suit ultimately sold for? I would give my first born child to own that piece. But don't worry, I won't have any children anyway.
Great website though,
Andrew
That's what he means by saying it "devolved." The version of the alien from AVP and beyond is barely recognizable compared to the original.
Actually it really started with Alien 3 somewhat. While the A3 design was Giger again, the lack of tubes in the back was sort of the start of a trend of departure from the source. Resurrection and AVP films turned the design more into a full living creature instead of a biomechanical organism.
It's one of the reasons I hate them being called "bugs".
If you're referring to the "bug hunt" line, I don't think that really alters what they are, even though the ALIEN society established in ALIENS is insect like, I think the bug line just shows the colonial marine mentallity to classify anything of the sort in the most basic of terms. I think xenomorph carries the spirit of the mechanical design, it almost sounds like a transformer or something and sound more mechanical instead of something like xenomorphicus or something more latin like from a 7th grade biology book.
No, not the term "bug hunt". I know that could be used for anything the Marines were hunting. I mean that the design has almost evolved into a more insect-like appearance than biomechanical. And more than once people have referred to them as bugs. It's wrong!
Just a question here about ALIENS...
Why did the Colonial Marines have 'Bug Hunt' on their dropship if they had never encountered the Alien creatures before (or had they)? And I remember Hudson asking Apone if it was "another bug hunt, sir?" or something along those lines. I was kind of under the impression that perhaps they've fought other "bug-like" races but the Xenomorphs were something totally new to them.
I think they would've faired better against them if other Marines had fought against them before.

I think that's how you're supposed to take it, they know nothing about the xenomorph's but they have been exposed to other creature problems.
