Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!

Bottom line, these movies are meant to be enjoyed for the 2 hours they run, if you dive too deep into questions, you find a lot of holes. Like for instance, in ALIEN, how does the company even know of the existence of the craft and creatures to know to send the ship there?

Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!

That's what I've always thought. If they had run into xenomorphs before, they would have had some idea what they were up against on LV-426. They didn't.

It's not that, it's that the Weyland Yutani Doese not place a value on human lives. The upper level corporate bigwigs simply do not care. They themselves only see the Xenomorphs as a potential to be exploited into biological weapons research. They have never personaly encountered the species. So they figureds "it's a predatory Space bug. We can tame them and make money off military contracts" They ONLY see the bottom line.
Within the continuity of the Aliens universe, they are kinda a "space boogeyman" that everyone has heard about, but no one really beleives in. The marines in Aliens are the first well armed military force who Have a well documented encounter with the Xenomorphs. all this is detailied in the various novels, and comics.
oh, wait, I forgot, most people on this bord don't like EU things.
For the record, the Aliens EU does a fantastic job of Plugging alot of the holes left by the films.

Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!

I'm on the same boat as those who don't think the Marines have faced the Aliens before. The way they reacted and planned their attack just seemed to tell the audience that. They wouldn't have needed to bring Ripley along if they already knew what they were up against. Furthermore if they knew what they were up against they probably wouldn't have had that rescue mission since those colonists were beyond saving (having already been impregnated at that time). Although the comics may seem to disprove that you must remember that the comics and novels came after the movie. They could have easily changed the continuity for the sake of having a better story. I've never read any of the novels or comics and I'm in no position to say how good they are. All I'm saying is that James Cameron more likely than not wrote the script with the notion that they were facing the Alien creatures for the first time. "Bug hunt" in my opinion refers to encounters with other types of aliens. Hey, maybe "Starship Troopers" and the "Alien" franchise take place in the same universe :lol

Well if we didn't dive deep into questions and such we wouldn't have such thought-provoking conversations like this! :chew

I don't recall within ALIEN cause I haven't watched it in a while...but I think it was explained that there was a "hidden directive" within MOTHER to lead the Nostromo to LV-426 to investigate the distress signal and Ash was planted there as the Company "Inside" Man.

It could very well be said that perhaps Weyland-Yutani had discovered other derelict ships on other planets but kept all that to themselves. Those other derelict ships also may not have had such "well-preserved" occupants like the one in ALIEN...but enought for them to study and then want to keep their "ears open" in space. Just an idea...

I didn't mean Weyland Yutani. I was talking about the Marines having no idea what they were facing (even after Ripley's warnings).

Weyland Yutani knew there was something there they could use as a biological weapon. And they definitely felt that human lives were expendable as long as they could obtain what they wanted. Just like in ALIEN.

I agree! :D

I think you are correct.

No I agree it's fun to discuss things, but you definitely can go cookoo if you think about it alone and don't discuss it haha.

And yes, in ALIEN, Ripley discovers Ash has been added to the crew and assigned to bring back the new speicies. The curious thing is, how does The Company know the ship is there and what is on it. Ash seems to know a good deal about the creature when they question his severed head.

I think they implied that the company had intercepted the signal earlier and already knew that it was a warning and not a distress call. We don't know how much they actually knew about the xenomorph before sending them out there, but it was apparently enough to make them want to capture and study them.

They could've decoded the "warning" and it mentions the creatures....

Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!

Just to go back to the figure for a minute, I found these pics. It looks like someone Photoshopped the hands.

Damnit Batty, you had to share that lol. Thank you, it's just painful seeing spread fingers now seeing how great together would look.

Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!

Looks a tad better. Makes the figure look slightly more proportioned. Although the size of the head is not the problem, it's the size of the upper body vs. the lower body.
Actually, looking at it again, I think the head looks too big in the photoshopped example.
There's no going around the fact that when made completely accurate to the original's proportions, the figure becomes very top heavy and difficult to balance.
Nothing an experienced figure collector can't solve with good posing, but a daunting task for the casual collector.
Look at McF's figure, the entire upper body is way too small for those gigantic legs, they also decided to screw with the proportions to make figure more stable (a futile attempt, considering the left foot...).

Personally, I wish they'd kept the figure accurate, but that's what we have the NECA figure for.
Speaking of accuracy, I think the dome is fine, they just used a different prop as reference. There were plenty of heads built and there were noticeable differences among them. I'm a fan of the "hero" head, which incidentally seems to be the look NECA went for, with the more bulbous appearance of the dome. But this one's fine.

Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!

I really dig the fact that they have two thumbs...

So did General Grievous...

That would be pretty cool...

Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!

So do we think these will go on preorder from Sideshow in this week's newsletter?

Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!

This would be a good SDCC order. The early info on RAH Darth Maul came quite a bit before SSC had it for preorder.
